i saw the Chameleons once in Essen Germany...that was in 1984..a concert "rock im park" with the Cure and Talk Talk.......they were fabulous ! an incredible sound... so magical and powerfull ! i never forgot that song : "Second Skin"... a great band !
What a fucking amazing song. So rich. I love these guys. It's been a while since my record player died and the tape bit the dust. Glad something reminded me to look for them on YT. :) Bravo. One of the best bands of all time.
These guys ARE (not just were) ABSOLUTLEY INCREDIBLE. The reunion in 2002 was proof that god loves his children. I bootlegged it, and still havent posted it online (Sorry Mark, I know I promised I would). They played till they couldnt stand upright anymore, they were exhausted and we all cried for more, Mark actually apologised that they couldnt do more, and said he really wasnt ready for us to be so receptive.
They needed to be willing to do what they were told by the big money grabbing record labels. It's hard to maintain your musical integrity when you are a signed band, as they proved.
There are so many fantastic Chameleons songs I'd temporarily forgotten just how wonderful this band was. In my humble opinion they are the best band this country has produced, for me nothing comes even remotely close.
@LeftHandOfDarkness Well, Mark's autobiography gives some hints. I would put it that way: It was a combination of bad luck and a couple of mistakes they made themselves. It certainly had nothing to do with the quality of their music.
@LeftHandOfDarkness Read the book Burgess has published, "View From A Hill". There are lots of details about that matter, amongst many other precious information.
@rocknrollunlimited I grew up listening to the Chameleons and they have always been my favorite band! I saw them play live at fender's ball in 1987 crazy! I haven't listened to them in a few years and I just started to go back and listen to them again from youtube. Not to sound like a pussy but I got all teary eyed! because I forgot how great this band was!
@rocknrollunlimited I hear so many bands today totally rip-off the Chameleons but I dont hear a lot of the bands give them prop's! hopefully they do and I just dont know of it! Anyway I agree with you totally! I know you posted that a long time ago but i guess im always late!
doesn't sound crazy...one door to enlightenment...and the chameleons music turned the key for you to open it...kinda corny ,but if it rings true,so be it,they had a way with melody and lyrics nobody could touch upon.
I agree. There is no middle ground with this band. Scarcely are we lucky enough to find music this affecting. My Chameleons albums are coming with me when they lower me in......
That's exactly how I feel about them. There's nothing that gets under my skin quite as much as a Chameleons song. It just moves me in a completely spiritual way. I start to physically feel changed by listening to them, you know? Does that sound crazy?
@Wilkinizov Not at all. I get the same way. Their music is very haunting. I like Muse but I was saying they sound too much like Radiohead and these guys told me how great of musicians they were. I know the singer's father was a musician and he was professnionally taught classical music but they lack soul. It's all corporate tehcno crap to me. Radiohead at least sounds like they have soul
@Wilkinizov It's not crazy at all. The Cham music reach us in a deeper way that is hard to explain with words. It creates vibrations that seems to reach us in soul and spirit. It's an EXPERIENCE!
I always loved Inside Out from the bonus tracks on Strange Times. A hidden Gem. Its true what you hear, they really are the greatest band of all time.
This incredible record is the crowning achievement for British 1980s (and 1990s while we're at it).

How much does the Killers song smile like you mean it sound like this song? It's those synths and the yearning vocal delivery both bands use...IMO!

I don't understand why they didn't have any big mainstream hits. They are very melodic & you'd think at least one or two songs would've charted.

Not sure there is a way to describe what amounts to an almost metaphysical reaction to this music.
