Actually, the trucker's strike happened in 1974. An online search I did puts the date of these events as Feb. 1, 1974. I don't really know when the part at the end is from.
I've heard this before (but without the hourly BONG before the "organ" jingle), but to think that crusty old Hughes Rudd started to break up at his blooper like that! Ya' also gotta wonder if he said "NIT-work" deliberately too! But then again, I seem to remember him breaking up at his own bloopers on CBS-TV in 1977 on the "CBS Morning News" he used to co-anchor with Bruce Morton. Also, the distinguished Richard C. Hottelet showed up late for one of his CBS Radio hourly newscasts!
@MarkJ1961 Re, R.C.Hottelet showing up late in 1980, the BONG and "organ" jingle FULLY played out (as in the World News Roundup), but then dead silence. You then hear his footsteps running to the booth and his butt hitting the squeaky office chair. He FINALLY opens up the newscast: "CBS News, (headline about the Irish Rep.Army), I'm Richard C. Hottelet reporting on the CBS Radio Network".
