BOB! He rocks! I love him. Wished he would share his story and allow people to connect their dots to his on Pocodot - (pocodot dot com) - he rocks. I hear Pocodot is the Facebook killer…
I am a Red Sox fan and it does not matter what team you root for. You remember the sights and sounds of your boyhood and growing up. It's baseball, it's greatness. I am in total agreement with David Cone, Mr Sheppard belongs in the Hall Of Fame and it's a travesty that he has not yet been enshrined.
As a kid I can remember pointing to the corner of the field where Bob Sheppard announced. The way he described it was as if someone superhuman was calling down from the sky. Til this day me and the old man try our best to imitate him.
One of a kind. As much a fiber of the Yankees as Ruth,Gehrig or Mantle. The Yankee tradition shall march on,but will never feel quite the same without the Golden pipes of Mr Sheppard. And to my friend Paul Doherty back in the states-don't think I didn't catch that Bob Sheppardesque-"I shall miss him..we shall all miss Robert Leo Sheppard" I guess I owe you a big thanks Paul. You do a great job keeping his legacy alive through all your "Bob footage" And thanks Mr Sheppard- R.I.P.
The Pat Summerall of Public Address Announcing. Like Pat, it seemed like everything Bob said was legendary. I don't say this as a Red Sox Fan, I say as a Baseball Fan, that I miss Bob Sheppard.
i like the fact that he dosent try to get the crowd pumped, like all the p.a. announcers do now, it adds to the mystic of the game, the ballpark, and the fans and players, wish the giants P.A. announcer did the same
Even though I'm a Mets fan, I still remember hearing his amazing voice at all the Yankees games I went to over the years, it'll always be something I'll remember, and learning about the person he was makes him even more inspiring, he was also a great teacher and professor, a proud US Navy Veteran during World War II and a great man of God, Rest in Peace Mr. Sheppard, the Lord bless you and Keep You
One reason why the Yankees have been and will continue to be the richest franchise in Major League Baseball. Not just rich in dollars, either. There are many reasons fans remember their first visit to Yankee Stadium. His voice is one of them. Father to son, father to son.
Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlement, Introducing Announcer (Number 1) Bob Sheppard...... Number 1. Cant wait to hear you call games in heaven bob. RIP
Not a Yankees fan by any means but this video gave me some incredible goosebumps. I can appreciate any true man of class and Bob Sheppard sure showed how much class he truly had.
I think Reggie Jackson said it best when he explained that Bob Sheppard was instrumental in being a part of "the dignity of the Yankees," who was a class act in the announcing booth and in life. I almost never cry, ever...and I teared up a little watching this beautiful and extremely deserving tribute to Mr. Sheppard. I suppose the Lord needed a P.A. announcer for the Pearly Gates, and he received the best. Godspeed Mr. Sheppard, your memory and golden voice will truly live on forever.
As a Rays fan, I must tip my hat gracefully to the man who defined how it should be done. Gadzooks, they guy they have at the Trop this year is just dreadful. Mr. Sheppard; you should indeed be in the Hall of Fame. Rest well. I love that Jeter has that grand voice for the rest of his career. You're a class act, Derek.
im a little choked up.....and proud of it....thank you so very very much...for giving us your voice.....Good Morning Ladys and Gentlmen..May I Direct your Attention...to the Pearly Gates....Now Entering....The Principle Owner Of The New York Yankees...George M. Stienbrenner...Stienbrenner
I was born in 1950 the same year that Bob Sheppard started. I remember loving that voice as a little kid long before I even knew who he was. I know speak for everyone who's ever heard him. He will be very sorely missed. I'm actually tearful right now.
Nothing was better than going to a game via subway, coming up the subway steps onto 161st street, and hearing that beautiful voice echoing in the stadium. I always remember if you got to the top of the stairs after leaving the subway, and you heard that voice, you automatically picked up the pace of your walking to get in the damn stadium like you never saw it before. It was like holy shit, there's Bob's voice, lets get to our seats or we will miss something!
The voice of the Yankees will never be forgotten when you walk im and out of yankee stadium you get the chills listening to your angle voice annouce the players names especially derek jeter #2 Derek jeter RIP VOICE OF THE YANKEES
Man what a real treat to hear one legend announce the names of other Yankee legends. I can still hear his voice announcing Mattingly, Randolph, Winfield, Henderson and Pagliarulo on those mid-late '80's teams when I lived in the Bronx. RIP Bob, the "voice of God" will always live on....
R.I.P Bob. I will never forget your voice and thank you for all the great memories in Yankee stadium. You will be missed and you will always have your spot in memorial park. No one can compare to this great announcer and he will always be the voice of Yankee Stadium aka "The voice of God"
Rest in Peace Bob Sheppard. Ill never forget my first Yankee Stadium expirience. 1995 Yankees/Mariners, field level seats Two things changed my life back then; , seeing Griffey and you calling Paul Oniell, my favorite player., Yesterday was one of the saddest days in Yankees/Baseball history, We love you Bob. David Cone is right... you SHOULD be in the HOF
I am a lifetime, born and raised, Philadelphia Phillies fan. Regardless of my HATRED for the Yankees (haha) I must say that today baseball has lost a legend. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the life Bob Sheppard lived. It was a sad day when he announced his retirement and it's an even sadder day today, but we can take comfort in knowing a man of his faith and caliber is surely in a greater place. Rest in Peace...
R.I.P Bob! Going to Yankee Stadium was always incredible for me and part of the enjoyment was hearing Bobs voice. Never again will there be a voice that just oozed class. Gone but never forgotten!
Bob Sheppard is in a class by himself. I can also still hear his voice in Giants Stadium: "Sims pass complete to Bavaro...First Down...." RIP Bob and may God Bless your family now and always. You will be missed...
Amazing. That echo is spot on and so dramatic..I loved the few games I attended at old Yankee Stadium in the 90s/ early 00's, not really knowing Bob's voice at first time I heard it, I got goosebumps! (Hey, Im in Philly and yes...a Phillies fan :) ) A great voice that will be missed, rest in peace Bob
As a Yankee fan I'm saddened by a voice that was so recognizable for so long. But I also feel a sense of what lineup he has to call in heaven: leading off second baseman- Jackie Robinson Batting second Shortstop- Honus Wagner Batting third Right fielder- Joe Dimaggio Batting fourth DH- Babe Ruth Batting fifth first base- Lou Gerigh Batting sixth Center Field- Mickey Mantel Batting seventh Catcher- Roy Campanella Batting Eighth Left Fielder- Ty Cobb Batting ninth Third base- Eddie Matthews
Thank you Bob for all the memories, i remember walking into The Old Yankee Stadium for the first time and hearing u announce Bernie Williams name and from there on out i would always try to mimic your voice lol and still do till this day, you will be dearly miss.
Eternal Rest Grant Him O Lord and Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him. May He and All the Faithful Departed, Through Your Mercy and Grace, Rest In Peace...Amen
to Bob Sheppard thank you for making my childhood so special, when i came to the old stadium and I heard your voice I knew I was at a place I loved, Yankee Stadium.
And the question by mvf116 asked is Bob Sheppard greatest announcer. He will
forever be connected to the Old Stadium,I heard him do games starting in 1952 until 2007. Bob RIP
i close my eyes and listen to his voice. it reminds me of the first time i went to yankee stadium with my dad when i was 7. ill never forget it. thanks bob "voice of God" sheppard we will miss u.
RIP Bob..... the Voice of God will now be announcing from that baseball diamond in the sky. We were blessed to have you for so many years, and you will truly be missed.
Sheppard has a plaque in Monument Park with Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, et al. And as further tribute, there are the words Jackson spoke in 1985 after the death of long-time clubhouse manager Pete Sheehy. They're quite apropos for Sheppard as well:
"There have been a handful a great Yankees. He belongs. They shouldn't wear black arm bands. They should remove one pinstripe."
RIP Bob Sheppard. So many of us were so fortunate to hear your voice as we grew up. You are and always will be a part of the New York Yankees. You truly were part of the allure of the experience.
10/12/1910-7/11/2010
You gave us 58 of the nearly 100 years you walked this world. Thank You.
RIP Bob Sheppard. We will miss your majestic voice and class. The Yankees, the stadium and the experience of going to the stadium will never be the same.
I remembered walking to Yankees Stadium, the smells, the sounds, I remembered sitting there and then I heard the voice of God "Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and Welcome to Yankees Stadium"
Just remembering that makes me cry. Thank You Bob Sheppard, for the years, for memories, for giving us your voice. As a Yankees Fan, i could not be prouder of that.
It is a very sad day for Yankee fans. An absolute Yankee legend and icon has left us. Bob Sheppard WAS the New York Yankees. RIP Mr. Sheppard, you could never ever be replaced.
RIP Bob Sheppard. Although 10 years old, this video remains a fitting tribute to Bob Sheppard and his amazing career at Yankee Stadium. It gives me chills to hear him announce 2 of my childhood heroes, Mickey Mantle (#7) and Whitey Ford (#16). And I'm glad I was able to hear him announce in person at several games between 1996 and 2000.

RIP Mr, Sheppard. You are sitting in more elevated booth today, calling the game for all the Yankee greats you knew so well.
