Wouldn't tiger farming prevent extinction? I'm pretty sure if people farmed tigers, they would make extinction their #1 priority to prevent. Plus, they would defend their livestock against poachers. Like the bison in America who was almost hunted to extinction, now bison are farmed (and they're healthier to eat than beef). Besides, farming tigers would be no different from chicken farms or alligator farms.

Sometimes the only way to save a species to to strike the balance of allowing apartial commercialization and giving people a self-motive by people to protect their financial investments. A similar story is what saved the white rhino and the American bison from extinction. Tiger farms are needed just as much as crocodile farms helped save alligators and crocodiles from poachers hunting wild ones to extinction. use commercialization to save wildlife with regulations.

In the states and everywhere else there are aligator farms. what do they do? breed alligators a prestigious predator survived for some 200 million years. what do farms do? they kill them and harvest their skin and meat. its a tourist attraction too where you can buy chickens and feed them to alligators.

If you are forbidding farms forbid keeping tigers in zoos. Conditions in the farms could be regulated -improved- plus the breeding programs of pure subspecies could be also fostered. It is easier to control farm breeding than poaching. And in the end China will have again its original tiger numbers -only behind bars - from where re-population would go easier than to increase non-existent wild tiger populations. CITES policy failed, see the recent drop of "guarded" tiger populations in reserves.
