Right, the DVD's are basically overpriced DVR's Amazon creates on demand. Volume 3 just came out, and even though they're labeled "best of," the first two volumes were made up of the first season split in two, so for $50-sh (they jump from $22-25 each) you get bearly 14 full shows, I guess they're cut a little too... I dunno, everythings just so poorly done, I want to just not buy them but on the other hand this really was great and twisted as hell....tough call..

It really is a shame that most of the 90s cartoons bit the dust. These days, there's no "middle ground," so to speak, for cartoons these days. It's either 100% slapstick/crude/reaction humor (e.g. Family Guy), or 100% for kids (e.g. all these damn 3D cartoons on Nick these days).

Back in the 90s, you had Rocko, Dexter's Lab, old Spongebob (before it went super kiddy), Hey Arnold, and countless others. (King of the Hill is brilliant, also.)

Now, there's nothing with the same charm.

i agree completly, and even though im only 19 now, im kind of sad that my kids will never grow up watching the awesome shows i did. Theres really nothing on Nickelodeon that i like now other than spongebob, and liek you said it got really "kiddy" over the last year or so. But the reason spongebob was so awesome was because it shared the same attributes of rockos modern life, in that it was a kid show, with comic genius behind it.

Look back at most of the things you watched as a kid, even Disney. Most of them were full of humor directed towards an older audience because 1) kids would not understand or care 2) it makes the thing bearable for adults to watch with their children.

@planetchinchilla Back then, before advanced parental control was made, cartoons also had to have jokes that appealed to adults as well. Because most adults had to watch stuff with their children as well, it was important to keep the adult entertained as well as the child.

Since adults are rarely in the same room as the child these days, some producers feel there's no need to insert more complex humor.

That and, of course, media watchdogs.
