Next time you use the incubator. clean the wire real good and spray it with clorox clean up. I had the same problem and sprayed it real good with clorox clean up and no more problems.
Ducks hatching before might of left some fecal matter and it gets
in the chicks navels. If you spray it real good with the clean up it
Poor little runt :-( Look at that black chick pick on him..bad chick, bad chick lol.....I'll be rooting, for the little guy to make it...I hope he can pull through. Good luck and keep us posted, if Runt makes it or not :-)
Hope the little guy makes it. What kind of incubator did you use, was it automatic or did you have to turn the eggs yourself. My coop is almost finished and my chicks arrive around the 24th. I like the radio idea I also read that it is helpful in keeping predators away they here it and think there are people in the barn. I was reading something lately that said even professional hatcheries only have about a 60% success rate, the best method is mom hen.
@dalecalder2003 I borrowed my cousin's still air incubator. The eggs just sit on wire mesh and I had to turn them twice a day. It is just made out of Styrofoam. He doesn't use it that often. He said he used it for ducks and had okay results, but he tried pheasants and had similar results to my chicken eggs. I've been hoping that one of my hens would start sitting on eggs but it hasn't happened yet.
@SiriusLupis I used to have one like that and then I bought one that turned the eggs itself which I had better luck with. Sold them both in a yard sale years ago didn't think I would ever get back into this stuff again. Thats one of the problems with these sexlink hens they have had the broodiness bred out of them, but sometimes you still get one that goes broodie I had one that hatched ducklings once. My chickens should arrive middle of next week.
try a radio left on in the barn to calm the ducks ..they are over reacting to noise..often I have found a radio useful in calming livestock of many types ,,nature is quiet and we humans are noisy ,,a low volume music or talk radio station may help

will no longer be a problem and they won't die.

Chicks fall asleep anywhere. I wouldn't worry about that one nawding off. As long as they are eating and they don't have a pastey butt.
