ohmygod, i can't believe how non-user-friendly Photoshop is. i've been using Corel's Paintshop for years and am gradually starting to use CS3 with some of workflow as a photographer along with Lightroom - which i LOVE - but Photoshop makes everything SO belabored.

with Paintshop, the function is "border" ... you choose pixel size, color and bam! i've seen other ways to create borders in PS and they're all so exhaustive, it's insane.

lol, wouldnt it be easier just to make another layer fill make a disign in the whole thing then just delete some of the center to create a boarder. or just make your background like a disign then make another layer over it and make w/e you whant then go up to the top and filter>distort>lens correction and just make that other layer smaller so the background shows. (thats what i do)

Thax for the help.. THe only problem I had was when I resized the canvas, I didn't get the checkerboard background. I was up till 230 this morning messing with it... After quite a bit of cussing, it finally worked.. LOL

I just don't know what I did to get it to work.. Other than unlocking it.

omg....Thank you soo much for your tutorial! My friend and I have had CS3 for a few months also and have been struggling with the basics (so much so that I REALLY wanted to go back to Digital Image Suite Edition by Microsoft as that program was at least easy 4 novices lol) I had been doing borders by Using the rectangle tool then going to subtract from area but that was really annoying as I could never get it the same width each time! So thank you very VERY much for this!!
