  • Also, interestingly.. the rebels who led the rebellion were booed and jeered at as they were taken through the streets of Dublin. Most Irish didn't support these rather hapless nationalists and their 'casual comedy' of an urpising. Ireland WAS NOT all behind them at all. But then, the British soldiers executed the leaders and that changed everything. 'All changed. Changed utterly. A terrible beauty is born'.

  • @VeritasEngine It actually was supported, until violence led onto the street. Then people wanted to stop. But it was the fact that they executed the leaders each day that rose anger. And I am so proud of the people that fought for freedom of my country, and any Irishman should.

  • @VeritasEngine Two points / clarifications really:

    a) Pretty much all Catholics were Nationalists.

However, most people conflate Republicanism with Nationalism - they were distinct. The Nationalists wanted devolved power (Home Rule), the Republicans wanted secession / independence. Only a minority were Republicans, most were Nationalist. The men behind 1916 were members of the Republican Brotherhood, as such their actions didn't have too much support at the time.

  • @VeritasEngine They were not booed. Ireland was in crisis at them time, people throughout the country supported them, but some of the in Dublin thought it would be a "small" rebellion, that nothing would happen, already poor they thought that would be punished by the British if they supported it, but about 4,500 people showed up that day, and when innocent people were killed in the streets people supported them. And when they were executed, they had enough of the Brits executing our people.

  • @VeritasEngine Few spelling mistakes from my comment before, but I am studying history. The reason that not as much people supported it in the capital is because they were all very poor, and they thought if they supported what they thought was a "failed" rising that they would be punished. But the people had enough of people being executed by the British and supported, and rightly so.All throughout the history of our land we were supposed to be, it was only a matter of time.Soon the north aswell.

  • Ireland would be united if it wasn't for religion. Religion is to blame, plain and simple, and what a complete non-surprise that is. The great divider of people and societies. Fuel for the ignorant. Religion? Shit it!

  • All that fighting just to end up giving up the powers they fought for and handing them to the European Union. Shame for Ireland. They struggled and forged their own national identity, I understand why they wanted out of the union- because it wasn't mutual, it was a capitulation rather than a union. Still, after all that they devolve it all to the EU. Foolish politicians believed in the 'Celtic tiger' myth and bankrupted the country. Now they're on their arse again and without sovereignty.Lame.

  • What is this shit? Baffles me how anyone can venerate a bunch of nobody miscreants rebelling at the height of the Great War. The Easter Rising was completely inconsequential.

  • protection for POWs?

  • just thank fuck your in an MEDC country where you can leave safely, you morons... i bet millions of poor africans ect would love to live in northern island, and they wouldnt be twats about it

  • and now we have a worse well as bad a dictarship in control we should rise against ff and fg and get our freedom in culture and land the irish goverments are bullys and brit lovers and the garda too. its like britain withoout the flag

  • We the Finns kicked the arses of the Russian... And not only in hockey but in Winter War: Shite for all of those who will neglegt the small but proud nations! GO IRELAND AND FINLAND!!!!!!

  • Surely the biggest obstacle today is the Republic winning back it's sovereign status from the EU before it gets the 6 counties ? Irish courts now use EU law & every new EU law that is passed by Brussels, has to be enshrined in what was Irish law. The banks are run at the behest of the EU, the elected politicians now do what Brussels tells them to do or they lose their jobs, Ireland's currency is in most parts German & the blue & yellow flag now flies over most regional government buildings.

  • Reading some of the fucking bilge on this page I don't know whether to piss myself laughing or weep in despair. Respect for each others history and respect for brave men yes. For fuck's sake let's damp down the sectarian ism - it leads to nothing but pain in the end.

  • @smthssarmour thats easy for you to say, youd never know what side your on......your history has not once ounce of respect from me,sectarianism is not randomly deposited on two different races, the only sectariansim we show is resistance,if thats racism then im a racist.

  • @eire1916rf I'm very clear about what 'side' I'm on thanks - hopefully that of realism and common sense. Being half English, half Irish will do that to you. For now I'll assume you're a more thoughtful and rational than the fucking idiot you sound like. Unlike you, I give great respect to Irish history - it always pays to understand the man who calls himself your enemy and accept that in the past he had cause to think himself so. I'll continue this in the next post.

  • @eire1916rf Continued - You say the only sectarianism you show is resistance. To what exactly? Personally I think the Six Counties should have been Eire's a long time ago. Thing is, there's rather a lot of Ulster Prods (and Catholics) who wouldn't agree. While they feel that way, the North will stay part of the UK. Killing policemen and shooting the odd few Brit soldiers will achieve nothing.

  • @smthssarmour so the best thing to do would be to sit quiet and wait for people's opinions to change?please, show your irish side, give your brothers an insite in your solution to their problem.

  • @eire1916rf A United Ireland will never be achieved through military action - not while it appears that the majority of people in the Six Counties want to stay part of the UK. That was obvious even in 1922. The solution has got to be political.

  • @smthssarmour hows that going to work if theres a protestant government in stormont?you can say its not about religion but unfortunately it is....we expecting sinn féin in power any time soon?

  • @eire1916rf I agree with you - but what other options are there - realistic options I mean. The gun can only take you so far. Collins realised that in 1922. The Catholics in the Six Counties have got to make their voices heard - peacefully. If they want to be part of a United Ireland then they need to show that they outnumber those who don't. With enough peaceful protest and enough campaigning there will have to be another referrendum - continued in next post -

  • @eire1916rf - continued - And this time the Republicans in the North have got to come out and vote - not boycott like they did in 1973. Of course, the state of Eire's economy right now isn't a big selling point but that won't last for ever. If you go back to the armed struggle you lose it all. And what worries me is that next time it won't be the British Army coming after the players, it'll be your own people.

  • @smthssarmour i think theres a percentage of catholics in the RIRA that want only a united Ireland but if there are any put off by our corrupt economy i mean.......surely its not about economics,if that stops so called republicans from voting then the RIRA is an excuse for crime and drug trade,i do agree with you though,I just dont see how they can be perpared to turn to the gun but not prepared to vote.

  • @eire1916rf There will never be a united Ireland as long as the south remains the corrupt state that it is. The brown envelope and backhander mentality has to be got rid off .The catholic church will have to be radically reformed or thrown out and replaced by a proper christrian church that is answerable to the people.

The people of the north particulary protestants will have to be shown the benefit of a united Ireland, especially economically.

  • Whats the name of this film pls? I wish the Welsh would stand up to the fking nglish like the Irish. I want to buy it.

  • Long Live Ireland, Strong and Free! My famous Irish ancestor, Thomas James Clarke, was responsible for the Easter Rising, and was executed by firing squad, seen in the video.

  • @kevinrayclark1

    yank?

  • They shot them like dogs ! And you want to know why there will never be real peace ?

  • Proves that actions far, far in the past can have repercussions long into the future. If the English government hadn't tried to claim Ireland in the first place, centuries ago, none of this would've happened. Human greed is sickening.

  • these men stood up, against all odds, against even the advice of fellow Irish volunteers against the wishes of wives and worried girlfriends.many didnt even know the rising was for real until the last minute! Then and there it was fight or flee, and they fought like true celtic warriors, outnumbered ,spat on and shat on they had each other and the resolution and insight to know that what they did then they would be thanked for for centuries to come. They died to become immortal!

  • Northern Ireland , British yesterday , today , and tomorrow !!!!

  • @Girvy us welsh laugh at your ironic use of the word british...........the welsh and the cornish cultures are the true britons ...cau dy geg a fuck off with your germanic culture....bunch of wannabe usurpers

  • That's Said Plain

  • Shoot Me, In Stead

  • why do you support a united irerland? it is hippocrosy to say british cannot impose rule on ireland when they dont want it, but to the majority of ulster who wish to stay with britain (where they are no caught up in the euro crisis) to say 'you will succumb to a unted ireland. in the 19th century ireland was economically backward (i.e. the famine was based on the monoculture of the potatoe crop, fair enough as well as british incompetence) and ulster was superior

  • @paulcapon It's Not ULSTER..... but Northern Ireland you are talking of...The Province of Ulster...is Nine Counties... Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan being those in The Republic....Northern Ireland was drawn up on a secterian headcount after fifty years of despotic missrule it imploded as i couldn't effect democratic change...

  • FAIL

    look at them fall HAHAHAHA

they shouldnt have resisted in the first place then use wouldnt be in the shits now!

and tipical brittan having to give use money that they will never see again cus us allways have the begging bowl out!

  • @freaky1441 Fuck off you wanker show some respect i am sure we would be all laughing if you got shot for your country.

  • @JordoF6 why the fuck should i show respect for fucking rebels?

Yea the you said it "for your country" they wernt fighting for there country if they where they would be off fighting in the wars not fucking having a rebellion... they where fighting for land not a country.

  • @freaky1441 Ah typical english thickhead yeah? i am not going to associate myself with a hated murderous people gooday sir.You clearly do not understand irish culture idiot.

  • @JordoF6 OH god yea sorry for being so CLEARLY "english" ... oh PLEASE...

I know alot of irish history and i know that the winners write thuis history untill it comes to the irish they just bullshit everything... LIKE U!

  • @JordoF6 Just like the Irish murdered, harassed & assaulted southern Protestants until they felt compelled to leave? Congratulations, the Irish hold the title for the only people to ethnically cleanse a minority in the history of the British Isles. When oh when will these Irish face up to their history instead of creating these elaborate myths.

  • @CharlesDilkes Would never had happend if the planters didn't come over and i'm scotish not irish i am ashamed of those fucking shitarses in NI,who worship the english.

  • @JordoF6 No, it would never have happened if those IRA men didn't pull the trigger and put a bullet through a defenseless Protestant farmer. Linking events that happened 300-400 years previously is so fuckin' dumb I can hardly believe you even suggested it.

  • @CharlesDilkes i don't care about religion plenty of protestants have killed millions of people.

  • @JordoF6 Nice one you moron for missing the point. You people are so fuckin' clueless about Ireland, the Anglo-Irish War and Irish history in general.

  • @CharlesDilkes Ah ha, you're a bigoted, racist christian asshole, now it makes sense. Moron.

  • @FunnyLittleChap Are you following me around? Sad cunt.

  • @CharlesDilkes Nope, just hanging around generally being better than you in every regard. Not just me, there's a whole load of us here laughing at you, you ignorant racist pig.

  • Heros All

  • EIRE 32

  • A man, a good man who fought for what was right, who pledged his life to the ordinary hard worker, spoke up for the rights and welfare of the working class, a selfless, good hearted man. Shot, wounded, in agony.

Tied to a chair, like a dying dog, and shot to pieces by the rifles of a foreign oppressor.

James Connolly - A True Irish Hero

  • @TheTrainstation Thank you very much for the answer! ;)

  • What film is the beginning from?

  • @dulceestdecorumest my question also, and is the song?

  • @dulceestdecorumest it is from a tv series called Rebel Heart.

  • @godbrother10 is it worth watching????

  • those men of 1916 are heros, but dont forget the people of dublin came out and fired eggs spat at them and shouted abuse at them when the english army caught them

  • sorry...what song is the one of the video? I'm from Italy but very interested in Irish history and love your traditional music!

  • @AlbertFromPadua

Hi the song is the irish national anthem called Amhrán na bhFian.

Thanks for appreciating our culure dude.

  • What is the name of that Film ??

  • @thebritish25 Rebel Heart

  • Our National day has become a National Farce!

    watch?v=T8KIwIcAQok

  • You know, Fester, if you stand up to an internet bully, he'll probably go away and leave you alone.

    And I am bullying you...

  • lol 1:05 its hitler!!!!

  • Most of the people of Ireland before the Easter Rising didn't really support the rebels. It was the execution of Pearse, Clark, ConNolly, and the others that really got the populaiton hating the British, and wanting to drive tham out.

GOD SPEED TO THE EXECUTED LEADERS OF THE EASTER RISING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @09stoneheart and to the men u fought in the rising and died

  • Damn the English for their atrocities! Legitimate soldiers treated as "terrorists", because they had the bravery to stand up to the bloated, arrogant bastard that was the British Government.

  • northern ireland = ireland

    fuck english occupiers

  • @BostonEm

    Tiocfaidh ár lá

  • @BostonEm why do you support a united irerland? it is hippocrosy to say british cannot impose rule on ireland when they dont want it, but to the majority of ulster who wish to stay with britain (where they are no caught up in the euro crisis) to say 'you will succumb to a unted ireland. in the 19th century ireland was economically backward (i.e. the famine was based on the monoculture of the potatoe crop, fair enough as well as british incompetence) and ulster was superior

  • @BostonEm northern Ireland , British and good job or they would all be bankrupt like southern Ireland , want your freedom but you have to run to the IMF for a loan cause your economy is bankrupt ! good job we do occupy dumb fuck

  • @dave2806 In 1976 Britain was bailed out by the IMF. Britian is currently in economic turmoil like Ireland, Portugal, Greece, France and Spain and might yet need another bailout!

  • @brasilcork I believe you just completely sunk his battleship.

  • @dave2806 stop using the word british...when its just the english......the welsh and cornish are the true brythonic culture of this island. King arthur fought the fucking invading germans lol...read some history

  • @3tangle3 Up until 47 not one single part of England had less than 80% Brythonic dna & many parts like Western Yorkshire, what is now Cumbria & the Fens in eastern England were 95% Brythonic. The Saxons only dominated & made their language the official one. Most did not run west when the Saxons & Vikings invaded as some thought, they stayed put. In fact the Brythonics in west Yorkshire ( Elmet) & the Fens were never beaten by even the Romans. Once Cumbraic was spoken from the Trent to the Firth.

  • @ALBIONTYKE I know mate.....i just love spreading truth and variety. so always willing to be open minded/learn new things or stand corrected

...like your name is awesome....relating to tyke regional history and the old greek trader name for this island "albion"

I love this island dearly......but that does not mean I have to love the state at all times aswell (esp as still an elite)....only brainwashed haters do that

  • @3tangle3 I agree. In fact I detest the state & it's bloody history, but proud of my islands ancient culture & it's real people. Unfortunately we are losing our character & becoming an island of self focused wimps & sadly having spent 3 years in Waterford, the same is happening over the water..

  • @BostonEm northen irelans is all devs fault fucking arsehole would have to start that cival war collins would of won it back

  • @BostonEm

    Nope, its British retard.

  • @BostonEm so the Scottish can stay well thats ok because most of the northern irish are Scottish :D

  • remember them always, forget wot certain people say.britain brought famine war blood cromwell.pearse and co i will never forget u,godbless and rest in peace

  • wat film is thks

  • after studying 1916 in detail, i regard pearse and the rebels as sort of traitors because while 160000 of their comrades were fighting in europe, they bought arms from their enemy and attacked their allies in a rebellion that the people didnt want.

  • Those 160000 comrades were fighting on the assurance of Home rule, which sooner and sooner looked like it was never going to happen. Pearse and his comrades kept alive the Fenian and United Irishman spirit in an unselfish action of sacrifice. Anyone who enjoys the freedom and democratic society of modern Ireland have these men to thank.

  • no. i have been studying it quite thoroughly. it never looked that HR seemed like it wouldn't happen in the south, and nationalists accepted it not happening in the north. HR actually did happen in 1920. the volunteers never considered fighting the british. they only intended to defend HR from UVF because HR was all the people wanted. dubliners actually threw pots of urine at pearse and co. after the surrender. that was how opposed the vast majority were to the rising.

  • as Collins said the Easter rising finally awoke the sleeping spirit of Ireland ,after 1916 for the majority of Irish people home rule was too little too late

  • "that was how opposed the vast majority were to the rising" yes it was, up until the British brutally murdered the leaders reminding the majority what "Pearse and Co" never forgot, that Britain was a monstorous nation. And when service men started returning from the front brutalised and decapatated with no home rule. After the gallant fighting of the Ulstermen it was said that home rule was never going to be enforced on them. The Volunteer's were prepared to fight the british the Volunteers...

  • ...(cont.) were always a threat to be used by the Irish Parlimentary Party as the UVF was used by Loyalists. If and when Home Rule wasn't going to be implemented the Volunteers would be used to fight the British army. Why didn't this confrontation happen? because the majority of the Volunteers died in the trenches for nothing. What the National Volunteers and Eoin O'Neil did was hold a reserve.

  • @godbrother10 you say the british were monstrous for shooting the 16 , i think 23 were executed in all, by the british , you write songs about it ,, well hello .were are your songs from the irish civil war ,, far more brutal than the war of independce, collins pro treaty executed 77 anti agreement ira .and both committed atrocities,, like tying up a group of anti agreement ira to a landmine and blew them to bits, both shot prisoners without trial, weres your ballads about that

  • @TheMightOfTheEnglish You obviously have not seen my newest video. Collins was dead before the executions started as was Griffith. Men like O'Higgens and Cosgrave betrayed the Republican cause, men like Liam Tobin tried to stop these men claiming Collin's mantle and unfortunatly failed.

  • @TheMightOfTheEnglish You write them

  • @TheMightOfTheEnglish the british killed 30,000 irishmen Catholic and Protestant after 1798--the nuremburg laws were based on the the penal laws against Ireland after 1688--American segregartion laws also--monstrous doesn't begin to describe it--though hats off to all those English men and women from the levellers to Sylvia Pankhurst who supported Ireland-a little history!

  • @rory198 Wrong, look at what the british were doing , we wouldn't wana be allies with those cunts.

  • @raginstudios. but we did want to be allies- thats the thing. anglo irish relations were fairly good at the time with home rule coming in. the people initially despised the rebels for ruining the city and because many had relatives enlisted in the british army. any history book would tell you that.

  • @rory198 My grandfather was a britsh soldier fighting the IRA, and one of my ancestors was an english soldier stationed in Ireland during ww1 , i have more english blood than anything, but still , you need to put yourself in the position of the rebels to understand. Look what the british did.

  • thing is, at that time the british weren't doing anything particularly bad. the last time that britain wronged ireland was with their handling of the famine crisis and none of the rebels were around for that. most people were satisfied with home rule. i regard the ww1 and the WoI irishmen as heroes but not the 1916 leaders, because they were not acting on the behalf of the people.

  • @rory198 this is true , although truth be told, the brits shouldn't have been in Ireland in the first place.

  • Home Rule was never gonna be enforced in the North, that was reason enough for the Rebellion.

  • what film is this clip taken from. can anyone let us know thanks

  • the name of the film is rebel heart

  • What film is shown 1st? Rebel Heart??

  • My Grandfather was in the GPO on Easter Monday, 1916. He was taken to Mountjoy jail, moved to Kilmainham, then shipped to prison in Britain. He understood politicians, hated politics and believed the most dangerous thing on Earth is a fanatic because a fanatic will sacrifice any and all people/things for the cause.

  • From Mexico to Ireland. Thanks for fighting US oppression next to us on our homeland.

  • how the hell did the U.S get dragged into this?

  • 1848. Mexico was at war with the US. The Irish demograph of the US Army deserted and joined up with the Mexicans to fight the US off Mexico's land.

  • They also really hated the Catholic Irish as much as the British did. The reason the Irish turned to the Mexican side is the same reason they were fighting in Dublin and throughout Ireland in 1798 and 1916... Fight off the landgrabbing invader. I suggest you look up the history of the St Patrick's Battalion. You'll be surprised. As for me being from the US, I am. But just because I'm American doesn't mean I'll just step aside when my country does something wrong.

  • Tell that to the Irish. They fought alongside us. Hell, if it weren't for the Irish, The US would be split in two and still under Britain's control

  • It turns out, the US is being split in two anyway ( been to Mexifornia lately? ).

    Oh the irony, lol.

  • Technically, California wasn't the US's to begin with.

  • @Lepper36 True I ovie in Fort Benton, Montana site of Thomas Meagher's death; hero of Antietem, one of thousasnds of Irish who stepped up during the Civil War

  • Persecution complex? I hope you are joking, why do we have to keep on crying for what Hitler (for example) done, and forget all the rest?

The british did indeed oppress Ireland, and even in a brutal way.
