We have air conditioners in NYC. It gets crazy hot and bright from the concrete and nearby buildings. If you go further up in Manhattan there are some buildings that are not allowed to be very tall and so the sun just gets everyone instantly.

Alli, in Chicago, IL(or at least in the suburbs though I think the city its the same) we have heat and AC. New York, NY and Chicago, IL have a similar climate(temperature wise) though Chicago, IL is a little warmer in the summer and a little colder in the winter by 1-2 degrees Fahrenheit on average than New York, NY. Thought to let you know. =P
