  • It's a great, cheap knife. I would love to see what the best way to sharpen one is.

  • Now throw it.

  • You can beat on that knife forever and you won't phase it. The RS has been one of the premier survival / field knives for the past 20 years! Can do it all, if you're willing to pack the weight. A knife you can bet your life on.

  • Great review... I'm really thinking of getting one. I have a SOG seal pup that works well for camping. But I think this knife will be great for emergencys and SHTF senerio.

  • What did you use to blacken you mod?

  • wow, you know how to pack it in, I usually just take my pig sticker and a small folder like my S&W stilleto, a weird combo but it works.

  • whats the best sharpening tool for knives

  • YOU USE THE HELL OUT OF YOUR KNIVES! I like it.

  • very nice knife but you should have used CHEPS at least if you were going to use a pallet for example lol those cheap pallets are some of the softest wood i have ever seen. essentially they are about as strong as a pencil. i worked in a warehouse for about a year and have actually walked across those pallets and they've caved under my 235lbs but a chep is made for some abuse. I've thrown one of those things and nothing

  • I have a Recon Scout and 2 Trail Masters... I love Cold Steel, I love these blades, but I hate the sheaths. Offering their kydex (Secure-ex) sheaths for these knives was a total game changer for me... Good video

  • Do you regrind any of your blades? If so how much of an angle works best for you? Thanks for the video.

  • Great point on the inner tube/ranger band. My Alaskan guide buddy told me he wraps everything in it cuz it burns even wet so it was part of is EDC out in the wilderness.

  • how much was the knife and where u get it/ i want it

  • @TheSilverwolf19 It's about 100 dollars. I just bought the last two from yourcornerstore online good deals and fast shipping.

  • enough wiht the bike tube, use tire or sumthing get creative forge ur own knifes if u want more fans

  • Hey you sound a lot like me and have a lot of preferances and search for the same that I did. If you're willing to drop that kind of money, and like the compactness of the pup, I suggest the TOPS Sky Marshall Hunters Point. Think of it as a quarter inch thick pup that chops better than the SRK, and feels so right in the hand it's creepy and you won't wanna put it down. You mod like I do and all I did to the knife is thin the edge and give the teeth extra bite

  • Great sheath mods. I NEVER leave the house without a backpack, so it wouldn't be necessary for me. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks!

    Thanks for the vid!

  • i dont c y you would put a knife in a pouch on a sheath with the knife in it. i'd rather see a larger multi-tool. just my opinion

  • For chopping did you know that if you hold the knife at the end of the handle with 2 or 3 fingers you will get better chopping power? you can use a lanyard system to make the knife more secure holding it this way too. or am I just preaching to the Choir here. :)

  • Nice video.

  • i recommend not to use the 7 inch blade at work to sharpen a pencil

  • You should check out Bark River knives, because they too are great for just about anything!!

  • I noticed that on the blade above the hilt it says "China". I have my doubts about the quality. What has your experience with blades made in China been like? Whats your take on them?

  • @llammapalluzza normally I dont reccomend blades from china. they have poor quality control. and in folders it can be a big problem because there are so many moving parts. with a fixed blade though its less of an issue. there is the potential for manufacturing defects but it would be hard to find a knife as useful as the Recon Scout, much less one made in the USA. check Nutnfancy's review of the Recon Scout. Personaly I am torn between a Recon Scout and an ESEE6 for my next purchase.

  • 3:20 looks like your making a fuzzy stick! always good for starting a fire! ;)

  • Another great video, Thanks heaps.

  • I want one! i want one! i want one!, no i want 2!

  • Awesome display, i really like the mods and the additions to the sheath, but i would suggest a better sharpener. a dull knife is not your friend :(

  • Great video, you need to make a video telling us how you attach stuff to your sheath with paracord, I've tried and I can't get the pouch on tight.

  • @TheSherminator64 Good suggestion. I'll try to get one on soon.

  • @TheSherminator64 Yea, I have a Cold Steel Recon Tanto, and I would like to attach some survival kits on the sheath, I already have some camo tape on and a small black rope tied through the holes.

  • Great video man ..

  • Hey, great knive and mods. Thanks

  • Great video! I like the mods!

  • How do you get the paracord into the inner tube? Is it 10 speed inner tube?

  • @IAmNutria The knot of paracord is larger than the inside diameter of the inner tube (mountain bike) so that the tube has to stretch over the knot.

  • @envirosponsible Alright, thanks. By the way, I love your videos. I may go to Canada and live there for a year or two. I'm excited to encounter the weather over there so I can test out more of my survival kit. Five stars

  • You should buy a spyderco sharpmaker which is an excellent and easy to use sharpener instead of that carbide thingy that you are using. I'm afraid you are destroying your edge with that thing. Your knife should be shaving sharp but you can barely cut paper which shows that it could be a lot sharper with the sharpmaker.

  • where do u get those puoches

  • great vid, man. what did you use to create the finger choil or "finger grip" to enable you to do finer work?

  • I used a grinding wheel and a belt sander. It was easy to do. Thanks for commenting.

  • @envirosponsible what kind of finish did you use when you were done?

  • did you get those little pockets on the sheath at rei

  • just ordered this knife. when you say its best to keep it oiled, would wd 40 work good for that

  • I wouldn't use WD-40 on my knives since I might want to cut something edible with them. I use olive oil that I keep in my B.O.B. for using in soups and oiling my tools.

  • alrite, thanks man

  • I think mineral oil may suffice, as well. No smell and not poison.

  • i have a question about the knife, i was wondering if the handle moves at all. like does it move around the tang(back and forth side to side)

  • I have felt it move a little when I've been chopping with it. It feels as though the "rubberized" handle is stretching though, not due to poor quality but because of the centrifugal force exerted causing a stretching to occur. Does that make sense, or was I just rambing?

  • it makes sense. do you think i should still buy it. it looks heavy duty

  • so does the knife when you buy it, come with all tht stuff? lol

  • I am looking to buy this because i was down to this and the S&W search and rescue but i want this one. I have found this exact knife but I can't find that sheath. Were did you find yours? Also what is the exact name of your knife? Could I find it at basspro

  • @Gamovarminthunter1 this is a nice Knife but the Cold Steel SRK is alot more purposeful

  • Do you think the SK5 steel is as good as the prevision version?

  • That's a good question. I don't know. Hopefully someone reading this does know and will share.

  • good review thinking about picking one up. What website did you get your recon scout knife. love your videos.

  • I bought it at a surplus store. If I knew how good the Cold Steel 12" Barong Machete was I may not have bought the Recon Scout. Don't get me wrong, I love the RS, but the Barong has most of the RS's capability at a fraction of the cost. Cold Steel is clearing them out right now and they're going to be discontinued.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • im interested on modifying my sheath, where do you get the pouch and how do you put it on? i love the one on my d2 extreme eagle sheath. i wouldn

t think it should be that hard to slice a piece of rope, was it not fully sharpened? mine is carbon V i love mine too. i am a lot meaner to it though...nice aim on the hammering. my spine is bare metal :p

  • Many crappy folders and multitools come in pouches. I had a few that I wasn't using, so I used some velcro to secure them to the sheath. I've also used paracord to secure a pouch.

My Recon Scout wasn't very sharp when I did the video. I'd like to see a video of you beating on your RS, or any other knife you have. Thanks for commenting.

  • cool thanks. ill just need a camera and someone to hold it. my phone works somewhat, but i love to try and break the thing :) USA carbon V!

  • I know I shot it but still a wicked awsome video

  • Great testing, good vid.

    Love the modifications you've made.

  • awesome

  • great job !!

  • Hey Chad! Great vid again dude! I really dig that knife man! The mods to it are outstanding ones too!! 5***** my friend!

  • Thanks Bro. I just checked out your channel. Let's see you chop with that Tramontina!

  • you ROCK man and your videos are freaken amazing i would like to see more chopping with it, but keep up the good work

  • What kind of carbide sharpener was that?

  • Great review, that looks like an awesome knife, but it's way to expensive for me. keep up the great vids.

    5/5

  • I just got my CS RS and let me tell you, there is NO WAY to over sell this knife. I plan to make many of the same mods that you have. Making it into a complete survival system.

  • you should check out the Ontario SP10 or SP5.

i think they are a little heavier/bulkier than what you have, but a good addition, if i may say so myself. the KaBar heavy bowie is good too.

  • hehe...you and me both. I've been impressed with Ontario knives...good quality and very good prices. i recently say that Frost came out with a 'mora' machete!

  • I have the SRK, its ok...i wish i had the carbon steel verson. Cold steel was before they outsourced and switched to stainless. nowdays i'd go woth a Ka-bar heavy bowie, as long as its 1095HC with a good heat treat i dont think it really matters though.

  • I'd like to get my hands on a Heavy Bowie. They look solid.

  • Glad I am a subscriber. Keep up the Great Info.!!!

  • Another good kit, have you ever tried to actually fish with your kit

Id be interested to see a video on that.

  • I have fished with one of my small fishing kits, but didn't catch it on film as it was at night and too dark. I'll make a video of that soon though. Great suggestion-thanks.

  • great knife. i wish i have one
