Digital organs are in such an advanced state with voiceable stops, etc. that well-trained ears have difficulty telling them from pipes. A well-done digital and a fine pipe organ in the same room with good acoustics are absolutely impossible to differentiate.
In this or any other economy churches have to count their pennies like everyone else. The cost of a pipe organ is difficult to justify when digital organs are so advanced and you can get so much organ for so little money, comparatively.
Just wanted you to know that you are my favorite organist on you tube. I think your home organ has fantastic sound. I'm wondering if you are using auxillary sampes, such as hauptwerk or one of those, or if that incredible sound is from the factory at Ahlborn?
This is an electric organ. its a Ahlborn Galanti and the "stops" as there called, light up when the sound is active, and are dim when not active. Its midi based I believe. They use real sound capture to get the sounds of a real organ.
my apologies - but I am tired of electonic manufacturers claiming that that they sound like pipes. The do sound good for digital, but not the same thing. The thing that got me started was the the light up darwknobs. i just fing those extremely annoying and tacky. I don't understand why any organ manufacturer would do that, but that's just my opinion.
I agree that the nobs can be a bit distracting, but the reason they do that is because when you pull them they don't stay popped out they just light up.
Dear pzimmer, this is an economic way to simulate the engagement of the plaquettes. There are also electronic organs with plaquettes that mechanically move as in a true classical organ, but they are much more expensive.
My old Church had an electronic organ with mechanical nobs with stop program numbers. It sounded like a real organ but only some of the pipes worked, every thing else was electric.
The point that they're trying to make is that you can't even tell that it's an electronic organ because it's so similar. However, Allen should be the last company to make that claim. They are one of the worst when it comes to electronic organs. They're just the most well-known. Ahlborn-Galanti has a legitimate claim, though, as do Johannus, Rodgers, and Phoenix. It's not the same, but it's hard to tell with some of the digital ranks.
Wonderful! Are you the composer of this piece?

nice performance - but what is it with the lighted drawknobs?
pzimmer 2 years ago
It is an Ahlborn Galanti organ.

as I asked before - what is the lighted drawknobs? A real orgoan doesn't have that crap.

wrong! Allen and Galainti claim to make real pipe sounds, but they don't even come close
