Friedman is excellent i totally respect him and love his guitar playing but since he enter megadeth become more softer but he is part of some pretty classics like a tout le monde, trust, she wolf, symphony of destruction, holy wars and other. Don't blame glen drover he is a good guitar player but marty is marty, al is al, poland is poland, glover is glover. We all know that he is not better than marty but he is good.

I totally agree with you zombie. Friedman in my opinion is the best guitarist to ever have been in Megadeth. I really miss his solos. Megadeth is my favorite band and alot of people don't even know who they are.

Friedman was totally an amazing guitarist as far as technical ability and compositional skill (his solos actually show off while remaining musically interesting). I also like the new guy who adds a lot to each solo. This song is totally a testament to the awesomeness of megadeth, who in my opinion, is largely unappreciated.

Friedman was a legend in thrash metal and there's no doubt about it at all, he will remain as one of the greatest guitar playes in the histy of thrash metal

but it dosn't mean anythin, al pitrelli is a fucking amazing guitarist, Another legend on his own style, and he proved how amazing he is with the songs he recorded with mega, and especialy the rude awakening he just owwned the whole concert ! he just played the friedmans solos in the best way, (listen to tornado of souls R.A version)

This is by far and away my favourite Megadeth song.

The solos are intricate and complex, the riffs brutal.

The structure of the song reminds a little bit of The Call Of Ktulu by Metallica, especially the initial chord changes in D (tonal center).

That's because the song intro has a chordal structure in D minor, much like the structure of Call Of Ktulu. Don't forget that Ktulu was written in part by Mustaine while he was still in Metallica. Big loss for the when they kicked him out. And BTW, Friedman is a bad standard for measuring up to. He's way above most metal players....

Yes, Mustaine gets a credit for Ktulu, I have the score by Cherry Lane/Hal Leonard.

He also claims he co-authored other songs such as Leper Messiah from the Puppets album, but I believe this is less a fact. Or, hard to prove at least.

I think Metallica has lost a great deal of creativity with Dave being kicked out, but at that time he was heavily ill and a menace for the entire band, as pictured on the Some Kind Of Monster DVD.

As far as Friedman goes, he was simply the best axeman Megadeth ever had, not only in terms of performance but also in songwriting, it is a fact that they recorded their best acts with Marty on the line-up (Rust In Peace, Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia) then Megadeth went slowly downhill.

I really like the legato licks that pitrelli adds here and there in this version. although i couldnt really say that his version are way better, since they are just a different adaptation of Marty's original solos, but they definately kick ass
