  • But why do they play it in C and not Bflat like the orignal....??? ;-)

  • These guys are like me so damn good but dont realize that they r.

  • The electric piano player, look very much like Zawinul and good version of this song !...

  • Damn Frank Martin can play. Holy shit.

  • wow great version.... i like such music, i love the music by zawinul, he was great!!! Peter Tschirky

    switzerland

  • are these students at the jazzschool or visitors?

  • This is a fantastic performance. The keyboardist and saxaphonist are absolutely incredible. When the sax player screams like that, it sounds like a human voice is actually screaming. They truly unlock the secret of the song, which is that it can be played in so many ways. What a tribute!

  • I don't like critical comments..if someone doesn't like a post....just move on. These guys are obviously enjoying themselves and they do a fine job of it. Took me back to the 'day'.

  • 5:15 oh holyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • It's an interesting interpretation of the song. Bass line so empty it's ok but he could go beyond. The drummer brings everybody to the top but sometimes is too much.

I like the saxophonist and the piano player.

    Good job!!

  • nevertheless: great

  • cool version !

  • ´what can study is the band! - A big THANK YOU to gordy

  • The more you hear it, the more there cames out a very new Jo Zawinul!

  • Woohoo!

I watched this version one or two years ago,

now I found it again by coincidence!

    Nice Set, very detailiedre-arrangement.

    Interesting Keyboard-style

(I must know, I'm the pianist myself)

    ~Pianojoe~

  • I love the keyboards setup!

  • Smooth...

  • i have that drumkit, but with and extra floor tom, i think... (mines a yamaha stage custom)

  • Cool!

  • so soulful, perfect.

  • AAHHH! That's Mark Russo!!! He's brilliant, seen'm twice!

  • He was amazing even high school. I think Mark and John Faddis had the same band teacher in high school.

  • dude come on, fucking sick! Narada Michael Walden reppin' Kalamazoo!

  • all i gotta say it MERCY...MERCY...MERCY....

  • What the hell is that sax player doing?

  • Teaching jazz fusion to students. Pretty cool. I happen to love the guy. This is the worst thing you could listen to if you don't know what he's already done. Multiple grammys, stuff you've heard on the radio.

  • lol I was thinking that too

  • What the hell is the drummer wearing!?!? lol, Nice performance though, looks like keyboard player is dressing like joe too

  • Sorry to rain on the parade, but I'm a die hard Zawinul fan and this performance is dull and lifeless. Good players, no spark. Poor continuity. It's not easy stuff to pull off and this really doesn't do it. Sorry.

  • They aren't competing with Zawinul... They're playing a tribute to him. The only important thing is that they're enjoying the music and recognizing his work.

  • you're dull and lifeless you fuckin clown. they are playing with feeling if i've ever heard it

  • I love this track. I wish Marc Russo would put out another solo album. I listen to his first solo album probably 5 days per week...and then there's all that great stuff from the Yellowjackets. Damn! that guy can PLAY!

  • LOVE it!! Channeling Zawinul or not, Frank Martin is SO awesome.

  • what's the keyboardist's name?

  • The keyboardist is Frank Martin. He wore the hat as a tribute to Joe, and organized the event.

  • WOW !!! Kick Ass version !!! My HS jazz band played that song and it didnt sound like that. Man....Marc Russo still has it!!!

  • very nice stuff. keyboardist looks like Zawinul - at least in this shot.

  • no comment all proffessionals!!!and even i watch the video..they understand each other..they felt for each other..very good interpretation and the i like the growl of altosax..geatjob..

  • I was really bummed to have miss this performance at The Jazzschool, but I'm glad I got to see this clip. Hi Frank!

  • THAT was fricken AWESOME!!

  • All seasoned pros, these guys know how to rockit with minimalization. Good job, fellas!!!
