  • I heard that this humungus-sized parabolic dish did send a signal in 1976 , am I right ? Till now have yet to receive any signal

  • 2:40

Just looking at the view reminds me of the good 'ol days of Goldeneye N64 when you're running around the triangle scared shooting baddies knowing that the game is set to the point that they will kill you with one shot. XD

Can you actually take tours as a civillian? Or is this just to see how it feels like? I want to take a friend or something and shoot each other with long range NERF guns or something random. :)

  • I could skate in that.

  • pssst... pulsars are where the supposedly complicated ET messages are hidden in the pulse drifting/quantization/phase memory, pulse nulling, mode switching/memory observed in their broadband synchrotron beams...

Jump in now or watch from the sidelines...

  • For the England, James? No. For the Astronomy.

  • @HenryJonesVictor YEH!!!

Amazing! The Arecibo observatory in Puerto Rico, is the largest single plate telescope in the world. It measures 305 meters in diameter. With the help of the telescope, scientists have discovered planets.

  • Why does he ask if you have stood on your head?

  • @InstantMix One of my research interests is the Moon Illusion, where the moon looks bigger on the horizon than when it's high in the sky. If you stand on your head, the illusion disappears!

In the dome, you get a sense of vertigo similar to the near-far feeling you get when you look at the moon on the horizon. I wondered what it would look like standing on my head. And indeed, the egg-shaped secondary reflector in the dome looks circular when you do that!

  • Exelente trabajo!!! Gracias por publicarlo y gracias por ser uno de los tantos que amamos y nos quedamos pasmados con la ciencia del espacio.

    Gracias desde Argentina!!!

  • my dream is to walk on there......

  • besides in "goldeneye" the radio telescope is also featured in the movie "contact"

  • OMFG! thats tall

  • very cool

  • este es un lugar maravilloso!! en puerto rico!! el que pueda visitelo no te arrepentiras!!

  • excellent video.... Thanks for the memories.

  • SAVE ARECIBO!!!

  • god that looks terrfying

  • imagine having to film the goldeneye scene there *whistles*

  • I used to recieve Data Units for Setie@home on my home computers. The wave files sent were from this very telescope in puerto rico. I began to learn and enjoy many things that up until then I knew so little about. Like:

Pulse and Triplet and Gaussian Waves etc etc. There is so much to learn when one gets involved in real astronomy. I wish they had never changed the original Seti@Home.....cause it was so Cool....!

  • @JerrysTube ; my pc still runs Seti@Home with BOINC 6-something... really cool, and indeed, you can learn a lot from it :)

  • What I would do to take this tour. :D

  • same, I'd go to the top and yell "THATS WHERE TREVELYAN FELL! *points to ground*"

  • that came on james bond

  • Fantastic video! Thank you for the unique opportunity to take this virtual tour.

  • wow. That would be an honor just to be a worker on that amazing dish.

November 1963 abgeschlossen.

  • JAMES BOND !

  • Looks like Alec Trevelyan hasnt died yet...

  • I'd crap myself, but i couldn't help pretending to shoot while riding it XD

  • Love it. Golden Eye rulez :)

  • wow GoldenEye: Source really recreated it perfectly

  • Eh, they're version is a bit scrunched. The antenna is rather short and the arm doesn't extend out as much as it should.

    Still, very nice. =)

  • Is this a tour that is available to the general public?

  • Nope, sorry. :)

  • @zikzak05 Damn , I wanted to pretend I was James Bond :'(

  • @jenhorne

I think you need to become a scientist to take this kind of tour XD.
