I'm not sure, but I would imagine that just typing produces hiragana (used for japanese words), pressing shift turns it into katakana (used for foreign words) and when the computer recognizes a word, it changes it to kanji (the complicated one)... writing in the Roman script (like this) is called romanji.

there are 3 japanese writing systems mixed together, kanji(complicated), hirigana(u lear it first cuz its simpol, and katanaka whick is used for foreighn words, and they refer to english(roman) letering as romanji...p.s. i am a 13 year old girl from america that learned all this by myslef lol
fyi, people like to use katakana sometimes just to be different sometimes, although for sure it is mostly used (and perhaps historically reserved for foreign words). You may see many actual japanese words written in katakana in Japan, on people's blogs, etc. You can discern the reasons for why you would want to use katakana sometimes over hiragana: to be cute, different, emphasize something, etc.
Also, it should be written 'romaji' Hope this information was new and helpful to you.
Usually, there are two ways of enter hiragana (Japanese alphabets).
(i) The phonetic, say when you need the 'sakura', with the MS IME (japanese), you just type like the English alphabets 'sakura' then press the space, you can ge a pull down list which you can choose桜, さくら、サクラ、櫻 or佐倉.
(ii) The JIS method, e.g. you press the key equivalent to 'x' (for 'sa), 'h' (for 'ku') and 'o' (for 'ra').
Nothing special, he chose the 'romanji' input method only. you can do so in the control panel/district and language option/add Japanese, then choose the 'romanji' input method instead of 'kana'. I personally like the kana, just a matter of taste!
control panel/district and language option/add langauage.
you need to check the box for 'insalling asian lanaguages' so that the CJK files is installed (into your hard disk).
Finally in the general tab choose 'romanji' for 'input method'. If you need to input hiragana (which might be difficult at first), choose 'kana'. Press space bar for conversion.
In the MS Words, you can high light the kanji (chinese character and press space bar, the hiragana comes out.
I actually have a japanese keyboard, but I was never able to get the special conversion keys working. Do I need japanese windows or something? Or perhaps I just need a different driver?
In the elementary school in Japan, "Japanese Roman alphabet spelling" is learnt. The person of 90% is misappropriating it to Japanese input in the personal computer.
"Touch typing of Japanese. I use major input method." was up-loaded to Youtube. Japanese input is done by using "Japanese Roman alphabet spelling".

you may try this out on a windows operating system should you wish (look on google how to add japanese as a foreign language 'keyboard').

Akin42 4 years ago
The keyboard for Japanese is called "106 keyboards" or "109 keyboards" based on the number of keys.
In Windows that you are using, is there a keyboard driver of "106 keyboards" or "109 keyboards"?
A peculiar key to a Japanese keyboard can be used by introducing the keyboard driver.
Or, the conversion operation can be done by using "Space key" even if "Conversion key" and "Non-conversion key" cannot be used.

i have a question. if i go to a japanese computer in japan, would i be able to type english into it?
krismast 4 years ago
Everyone can type English by using the Qwerty keyboard layout.
"Japanese input" and "English input" can be switched by pushing "漢字" in Japanese Windows.

So, my touch typing system is jis-kana system which is very normally system.
(However, in today, many Japanese have been using with the Roman alphabet system for Japanese typing system.)
I saw his touch typing, and I thought that his fingers for moving was very smoothly moving.
And I am sorry, the following sentence is in Japanese.
