I miss her too, she was my auntie/godmother she is irreplaceable - but i am thankful for having known her so long. May peace be always with you lovely wild woman
Last year I filmed my dear friend, Gianni Menichetti, long time lover of Vali Myers at their valley home, near Positano, Italy. My youtube video is called
"His Savage Mistress": Showing his art and poetry, inspired by Vali. Gianni is still fighting to protect the valley from developers, just as Vali always did. You can also check Gianni Menichett's website (see Google) to see his art work and read his poetry. Including many photos!
Please leave comments on his video, it inspires him.
One of the docs about Vali is called "The Witch Of Positano"- I remember renting the video-cassette of it at Tower Video on E.4th St. in NYC, sometime in the 1990's. I wish I had it on DVD!
Gianni now needs help conserving the wild canyon where he and Vali lived. Developers want to cut down the trees on the steep slopes and dam the waterfall. Many rare plants and animals will be destroyed should this go ahead. Go to "Save the Wild Canyon" on youtube and sign the petition if you want to support him! cheers, Lina
I met Vali several times in the 80s in positano. I remember that we had fun together with Rudi and Gianni at "Bar the Martino", dancing downstairs at the "buca di bacco" discotheque and having a shower under the waterfall in the valley where she lived, -together with hundreds of animals. Last summer I met gianni in the streets of positano, -he is still there. I am sad, that I will never again see Vali walking the steps of Positano. Mike ( from Germany )
there are at least three documentaries about her. Ed VAn der Elsken did one. Sheldon Rachlin, I think did one and Ruth Cullen the most recent. It was available from Ronin Films Australia.
Met Vali about 5 or 6 years ago at Camberwell Market. Went up & introduced ourselves as we'd seen the documentary & I had bought a copy from Ronan Films. She was really down to earth & friendly. Hope to get to the Nicholas Building soon. She certainly didn't look her age. Just loved her bohemian lifestyle & her art. Someone told me the Indian guy had died. Can anyone enlighten me? Was she Jewish? Not that it matters. What prices are her art works bringing?
Hi there....Valis studio at Nicholas Building is closed. Her work has mysteriously disappeared. The so called 'Honourary Trustees' have it stashed somewhere. No where for the Australian public to see any of it! Appauling....Also dont know what Indian guy youre refering to.
Thanks so much for clip. I am forever looking for more information but I just cant seem to get hold of much. I knew her in Melbourne for the last three years of her life. I didnt know so much about her past at the time really, I was introduced thru a mutual friend and she took me under her wing giving me the most gutsy advice Ive ever been given. I'll always remember being in her studio drinking shots of Ouzo & eating Italian pastries.
enchantedwood...thanks for your comment! Which photo was yours? Adding Vali's offical website to the video would have been a great idea, however at the time of making it, the thought of posting it on youtube for people to view never entered my mind, my teacher did it! But I'll add more information with my next videos! Cheers!
Having difficulties posting this comment. For some reason I keep getting asked to verify my email. I do that and nothing happens! Anyway, thanks for putting this video together. Great more people have an opportunity to see Vali's work and the amazing woman she was. I notice you used the text from the officialVali Myers site and a great collection of images. I was surpised to find one of the photos I took of Vali in your video.
Quite true, however I am not one, but rather just a person who was fortunate enough to have met her once and I admired her work, hence completing a couple of assignments on her... cody12e, what is your interest in Vali?
Theindigo...I do have more videos, however I am unable to post them at the moment and none relate to artists. Having said that, I have done a lot of short films and am developing my video skills with further education and training...so stay tuned! Thanks for your comment!
Thankyou for your comment. I am very much aware that Positano had a big place in Vali's heart as this is not the first assignment I have done on her life/art. That being said, I decided not to focus on the location this time, as I felt more strongly about other aspects in her life. I was fortunate enough to have met Vali in 1996, and it is something I will never forget!
Very lovely, but there was no mention of Vali's span of life in Positano, Italy - where she created many of her incredible drawings. She was an amazing creature. I would have loved to have met her.
Vali made a dramatic impact in my life and I will forever hold that dear...truly a remarkable soul! xox

HI my last comment about Vali being Jewish was in relation to rocker1946's question.
Also wanted to add that Gianni has a book out now, saw it at Polyester Books Brunswick St Fitzroy. No I don't work there.

Since bought the book about her from USA. Strange it can only be obtained from overseas when she died in Melbourne. What an incredible woman.

Sorry, didn't realise he was Italian. Wish I could find such a "devoted slave". Does anyone know where her art works have disappeared to?

Vali was of Jewish Irish background which she spoke of with great pride.
