Commendable that you posted fliers and sought out the owner of the fuzzy! I have lost a ferret in the past that was never found and wish someone like you lived in my community at the time. I salute you!
I'm pretty ignorant about ferrets specifically, but I'm pretty good with animals in general, particularly mammals in general. I don't doubt that there is some fear in the ferret however I don't think it is as much as a typical person would think. I think the ferret is having fun most of the time.
can't you see that the ferret is scared. and that he is defending him self. poor thing. and the dog... hes so worried about what to do... lol so cute.
I think there was sometimes he had some fear, but then so would you if you were play fighting with someone 20 times more than your own weight. There is at least two occasions in the video that the ferret seems to be teasing the dog provoking it for its own entertainment.
I've raised chickens, kestrels, raccoons, a screech owl, possums, skunks, pheasants, mallard's, jays, wrens, ect... all in the presence of German shepherds that acted a lot like surrogate parents and playmates. I took part (unpaid volunteer) in the local zoo's wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release program for injured and orphaned wildlife. Unfortunately as part of the program I also had to help take care of sparrows, starlings and pigeons; that I'm not always fond of
Several months after I returned the ferret, I talked to the owner, and the ferret was used to playing with dogs. A couple years later, it appears the same ferret came back. The ferret was loose again wandering the neighborhood, and it kept coming over to my dog. So apparently it was trying to visit my dog, or it was looking for food. Either way it didn't seem afraid of my dog.
