@skuzzlebutt13 I know your question wasn't directed to me and I don't have a for sure answer for you but I would like to speculate about how to clean out the copper tube. Just heat water to a boil and let the steam run through it and clean it out. That's my guess and what I am going to do when I build me one. If someone know a better way please let us know.
@JaimeNunyabusiness Here in the UK you can buy a special cleaning product especialy for sterilizing brew kits. i suppose you could use the stuff you use to sterilize babys bottles????
k? so its full of alcohol but the smoothness is what matters cuz if it burns every inch of the way 2 the bottom its not worth drinking... I have had suttons and i still think n my opinion the best shine i have ever had came from the ozarks in southern missouri and northern arkansas and it might b just cuz missouri is the only state that its legal to own and operate a moonshine still
@MaTchBoOkPoEt That is a good rule but it is not always true. The amount of toxins depends on the distilling temp and how much is being distilled. Toss out everything that starts to drip under 170 degs. Then also toss 1oz for about every 6 qts. distilled.
Do you ususally cut the shine with water if you want to bring down the proof. Also my confusion is the coiling process. You filled the bucket with ice. is that where the steam attaches to form the liquid. All I see is the steam going straight from the cooker through the coil and out comes the liquid.
Cool great vids on moonshine thank you for takeing the time to show us much appreaciated and can u make it with outher stuff instead of corn and do u have to use yeast
how much actual moonshine does that much mash make? how many times will you have to fill the distiller to use all the mash? how long does each time take?
@d0r0m you will only get 10% of your mash that you distill you also want to run it slow that makes it smoother and you never want to drink the first bit it will damage the optical nerve and cause blindness and you never want the end of it ether because it picks up allot of water you want the middle cut of the run. that will be the smoothest and the best part of the run.
@redneckrollercoast1 Methanol boils at about 149 F. If you can find a way to put a thermometer inside the pressure cooker/whatever the mash is heated in, watch the temperature stop rising at around 149 degrees. This is the methanol boiling off, once it is all gone, the temp will rise again to about 171 F. At this temp the ethanol (what you want) is boiling and the temperature will again stay constant until it is all boiled off. Basically why the middle is the best best.
Did you just use a rubber stopper in the top of the Pressure Cooker? I am alll set to go I just need to find the best way to connect my copper line to the pressure cooker any help would be great! Thanks.
ok i have a question say i make apple brandy in a jar with slow fermentation would i put the alcohol part in the pressure cooker or the whole mash even though its already produced alcohol that is about the same ammount of alcohol percentenge as wine?

I like your comment about it being 190 proof. LOL The best you can get in a pot still running it thru once like you did here is maybe 130-140 IF you run it real slow and barely get it up to 180-190 degrees F in the mash. A reflux unit will go to the 190 range quite easily.
@BigPillzbury It's called an airlock. You can get them online for fairly cheap. They are used to allow CO2 to bubble out of your brew, while keeping air and bad stuff out.

please respond....the still itself looks very easy to make, the only thing i dont get is how to connect the copper tubbing to the pressure cooking lid for a good tight seal, so could you expain in detail how you do this?
@johndeere471 Throw it out on every batch you put in the still, it will be mostly methanol because it has a lower boiling point and comes out first. You can tell by smelling it or tasting it too.
Could i use a stainless milk jug, with a fire under it, a funnel aboube it, and have the copper hose go through the ice, and out, or do i have to use a pressure cooker??
@johndeere471 you can use anything stainless..as long as you can make it airtight and leakproof..i just used pressure cooker because it sealed well and already had a hole in the top
@stardogpirate o yea wikipedia said 2 quarts in a pint so idk if you or wikipedia made a mistake lol..any way either way will i still get 4 pints thanks
@procreation100 nope..ya still wanna make just steam..if it's not hot enough..ya make methanol..if it's to hot ya get mash up your line and your shine comes out cloudy..stick around 172 and 180 if ya can.
@procreation100 It doesn't matter what size your cooker is, how much mash, or how much heat you put into it. In a solution, fluids with the lowest boiling point will come off in sequential order as the heat rises. This means that you will get temp plateaus throughout the heating process. Boiling points for methanol & ethanol will be easy to find on wikipedia. Just turn the heat on to a moderate setting, then just watch the temp. As it approaches 200F, you're just getting h2o. gotta love science
They are both the same princible of removing water from yer hooch..freezing seems like more work though..easier to jus steam the water out and more reliable..it will be stronger by steaming the water out..which you can do like many times to make it even stronger
I have a question. I was reading about making apple jack and it said after your liquid has fermented, just freeze it and continue to remove the ice that forms and once the ice stops forming, you will have a much stronger alcoholic drink. Is the end result of freezing the same thing as distilling? If not, do you know what the differences are?
mutilple stills have a thumper keg..that distills the alcohol twice..so ya dont have to pour the mash in twice..thumper keg has some shine it it..and it works just like the main pot..coil goes from thumper to cold ice water..just like the mine..but it at the end..not between main cooker and thumper
Hey man i love your shit. And how long should i let my mash brew? Also whats the safest way to add more mash into my still once it stops producing moonshine? Hope that makes sense i had a hard time wordin it.
@dave11671 the mash should cook out in bout 20-30 mins if you use a small still like mine..keep tasting it!..if it starts getting weak..then change out the mash in the pot..there really is no safer way then taking the top of and pouring it in the sink..then refill and repeat.
@stardogpirate are you sure thats a 4 quart pressure cooker because i was lookin to buy one and a 4 quart looked way smaller than what you got there please just reply back so i can get started makin!!!!!
@superdutyon44s yup..mines a 4 quart..sorry bout slow response..i'm a busy hillbilly..if ya wanna make more..and willin ta spend bout 30 bucks..get a 24 quart stainless cookin pot with a lid..use small c-clamps to seal the lid..and putting flour paste around the edge of lid would'nt hurt either :)
@Aholeintheozone no it wont...lol..you have ta drink ALOT of that stuff to even hurt ya bad..but i dont reccomend trying that..a small still like mine..saving the first shot with the rest wont hurt ya at all
Dear friends..You all have many questions..I have answered all of them in past comments ..if you scroll through them you will see the answers..If there is one i have noticed that i havent gotten yet..I will answer it :)
@capttzuzu i no all of tht, iv made wine plenty of times before. me being under age isnt tha point, its wheather or not my local thrift store will have a water distiller.
ok lol im gettin kinda mad i did my mash like u said and i have same air locker and m pot its basicly like yours.. i cook at 180 and i get like two rips out and its been running for 3 hours????????????????/ wtf is goin on lol
ok lol im gettin kinda mad i did my mash like u said and i have same air locker and m pot its basicly like your i cook at 180 and i get like two rips out and its been running for 3 hours????????????????/ wtf is goin on lol
ok..You dont use aluminum because you are making bout 3 diff kinds of alcohol..methanol..ethonal..aluminum jus isnt a good thing to use..fine for cookin food..bad for steaming alcohols..why ya think all the moonshiners use copper exclusivley?..Dont use tap water because it's full of flurides and chlorides and that messes up the yeast and fermentation..but if you use a well..thats fine.
If aluminum pressure cookers are so bad and supposedly release poisons, cause you to get sick, why dont they do so when you use them to cook food in? Ive had a few drinks made from them, didnt seem to bother me any. Is it that the alcohol leaches impurities from the aluminum?
@blue3378 you dont really need a pressure valve. Get a pot and drill a hole in the top. You can use a cork or a rubber stopper to feed the copper pipe into the pot.
Are the hangovers from moonshine made like this worse than from store bought alcohol? Can you distill it again to make it purer? And if so do you throw out the first shot again? Thanks.

Do you just throw away the first shotglass you EVER do or everytime you make it?
johndeere471 7 months ago
@johndeere471 Throw it out on every batch you put in the still, it will be mostly methanol because it has a lower boiling point and comes out first. You can tell by smelling it or tasting it too.

Could i use a stainless milk jug, with a fire under it, a funnel aboube it, and have the copper hose go through the ice, and out, or do i have to use a pressure cooker??
johndeere471 7 months ago
@johndeere471 you can use anything stainless..as long as you can make it airtight and leakproof..i just used pressure cooker because it sealed well and already had a hole in the top

superdutyon44s 7 months ago
@superdutyon44s sorry took so long ..I was camping fer 6 days on vacation..you should get 4 pints..so whats that..a quart?..yea a quart.
stardogpirate 7 months ago
should i chage the temp on the mash depending on how big my pressure cooker is, cause i wanna make more than 4quarts
procreation100 8 months ago
@procreation100 nope..ya still wanna make just steam..if it's not hot enough..ya make methanol..if it's to hot ya get mash up your line and your shine comes out cloudy..stick around 172 and 180 if ya can.
stardogpirate 7 months ago
@procreation100 It doesn't matter what size your cooker is, how much mash, or how much heat you put into it. In a solution, fluids with the lowest boiling point will come off in sequential order as the heat rises. This means that you will get temp plateaus throughout the heating process. Boiling points for methanol & ethanol will be easy to find on wikipedia. Just turn the heat on to a moderate setting, then just watch the temp. As it approaches 200F, you're just getting h2o. gotta love science

They are both the same princible of removing water from yer hooch..freezing seems like more work though..easier to jus steam the water out and more reliable..it will be stronger by steaming the water out..which you can do like many times to make it even stronger
stardogpirate 8 months ago
I have a question. I was reading about making apple jack and it said after your liquid has fermented, just freeze it and continue to remove the ice that forms and once the ice stops forming, you will have a much stronger alcoholic drink. Is the end result of freezing the same thing as distilling? If not, do you know what the differences are?
Thanks in advance for reading this.
kysmik 8 months ago
mutilple stills have a thumper keg..that distills the alcohol twice..so ya dont have to pour the mash in twice..thumper keg has some shine it it..and it works just like the main pot..coil goes from thumper to cold ice water..just like the mine..but it at the end..not between main cooker and thumper

Hey man i love your shit. And how long should i let my mash brew? Also whats the safest way to add more mash into my still once it stops producing moonshine? Hope that makes sense i had a hard time wordin it.
dave11671 8 months ago
@dave11671 the mash should cook out in bout 20-30 mins if you use a small still like mine..keep tasting it!..if it starts getting weak..then change out the mash in the pot..there really is no safer way then taking the top of and pouring it in the sink..then refill and repeat.
stardogpirate 8 months ago
ok so how do u know how much moonshine to throw out when u start makin it
bronzo1217 8 months ago
@bronzo1217 just the first half shot..and ya really dont have ta do that..cause in that lil still you wont make enough poison to hurt ya
stardogpirate 8 months ago
@stardogpirate are you sure thats a 4 quart pressure cooker because i was lookin to buy one and a 4 quart looked way smaller than what you got there please just reply back so i can get started makin!!!!!
superdutyon44s 8 months ago
@superdutyon44s yup..mines a 4 quart..sorry bout slow response..i'm a busy hillbilly..if ya wanna make more..and willin ta spend bout 30 bucks..get a 24 quart stainless cookin pot with a lid..use small c-clamps to seal the lid..and putting flour paste around the edge of lid would'nt hurt either :)

@MrKyleg76 It's an airlock. You can find them for about $1 on the internet
MCcookiebreath 11 months ago
ok..You dont use aluminum because you are making bout 3 diff kinds of alcohol..methanol..ethonal..aluminum jus isnt a good thing to use..fine for cookin food..bad for steaming alcohols..why ya think all the moonshiners use copper exclusivley?..Dont use tap water because it's full of flurides and chlorides and that messes up the yeast and fermentation..but if you use a well..thats fine.
stardogpirate 1 year ago
If aluminum pressure cookers are so bad and supposedly release poisons, cause you to get sick, why dont they do so when you use them to cook food in? Ive had a few drinks made from them, didnt seem to bother me any. Is it that the alcohol leaches impurities from the aluminum?

were do u get the preessure valve thing bc i cant find 1 anywere and i really eed it to!!!!?!!!
blue3378 1 year ago
@blue3378 you dont really need a pressure valve. Get a pot and drill a hole in the top. You can use a cork or a rubber stopper to feed the copper pipe into the pot.

does moonshine give ya different kind of drunkenness?
eazyduzitjacob 1 year ago
Are the hangovers from moonshine made like this worse than from store bought alcohol? Can you distill it again to make it purer? And if so do you throw out the first shot again? Thanks.
