@hondarideralex < You have no idea what you're talking about. Power to weight??? That's doesn't really apply on the water. This boat is fast not from turbo or from power per-se but from RPM. That little Wankel winds out to 12,000 while a v8 winds to about 5000. That's over twice the RPM. A jet impeller moves water by rotation speed not from power, and RPM in the water is instant...there's no tires, no road friction, no gravity to overcome so what the fuck does weight have to do with anything?

@tubesteakdynamo a lighter engine means a lighter boat. a lighter boat sits higher in the water and gets up on plane sooner, allowing it less drag and more speed. inertia will also tell you its easier to move a lighter object than a heavy one. as far as your speed vs power thing, more power means you can move more water, rotaries are very good at making power in small packages. with a slower turning V8 you just compensate with a more aggressive prop. there's a reason drag boats are big blocks

The the engine still has to pump the water, which takes a lot of power, hence most the jet boats have big blocks. like what blazer said about the props, the same goes for jets where you change out the impeller or you get a gear box that lowers the output speed of the engine down to the speed that jet pump can use.

Turbos or any power adder for that matter do work on the water. Power to weight is just as important on the water as on the road. Rpm is irrelevent with respect to impeller or propeller pitch. The pitch of the propeller judges how far forward you travel with one rotation.

The jet drive intake acts like a scoop and forces water into the impeller when the boat is moving effectively reducing the load and the rpms rise as the boat picks up speed.
