They, as well as thousands of British airman, went into a Communist gulag captivity far worse than what they endured by the Germans. Not a single one ever returned home. I believe that at the beginning of this film they gave a figure of 46,000+ deaths of American servicemen from the Army Air Forces. I'm quite sure that exceeds those from all the infantry campaigns of the war. My father was the sole survivor of a crew of 10 on a B-17 shot down over Germany.
