Un émouvant souvenir de Marie-Agathe qui me demanda de passer ce titre plusieurs fois pendant cette inoubliable soirée de Septembre 1990. Quel plaisir de lui faire plaisir; Je ne l'ai jamais revue...
I just don't understand how Bernie can write the lyrics, give them to Elton, and he writes the score. With no more communication than here, work with this. Friggin' incredible.
This was my favourite..I had the album on tape. Never made the link between this and to ska (or reggea?) though, just loved the beat and the edgyness and lyrics. Shows he can do more than the "pop" and "showtunes" he's know for.
@2010carlton Agree, but if you ask me, I feel he did his best in the 70's and then Reg Strikes Back up to present day. I just love Simple Life and Made in England.
@johncuschieri totally agree...the 10 songs were incredible. Only Sacrifice made it through time....he only did healing hands, stones throw from hurtin and sleeping with the past back in that great 1989 tour....but that was it.
@mhvr85 I do not have a recording of that tour, but I have noticed several fans who are in Australia that came forward over the years and mentioned that they heard Healing Hands in the 1993 Australian shows. In addition, I have an Australian newspaper review of the tour that mentions Healing Hands being played in one of the 1993 shows.
I listened to this song when I was at school. There was a boy one year older. My God, he was so beautiful! Like he was sent from another planet. He also lived in the same street as me. Everytime I went for a walk, I hoped to meet him. I dreamt that one day we would be together. This song reminds me of these times.
I just hear that drill and hammer I feel the killing heat Going two miles down to the heart Of Durban deep I was born on amen corner I pound rock face, I get lonely But my family they go hungry Sill the boss man he call us lazy Don't the old blue heaven Look a lot like your eyes When you're blinded by the brightness Of the Transvaal sky
Durban Deep lyrics I won't see you `till Christmas I breathe coal dust, I get blisters But the foreman he don't worry He say work boy there's no hurry Don't that big red sun Look a lot like fire When you come out of the ground After forty eight hours Going down down down down down Going down in Durban deep Going down down down down down
One of so many songs by Sire Elton that deserved more attention on behalf of the public and also more recognition... As with many other themes by this great master, this wonder has a rather sticky rhythm...
My mom had this cassette & we listened to it all the time. It was the time when Hawaiian stuff was big, so I equate this with ocean/beach music for some reason LOL
I really could listen 2 this song over and over, that catchy beat gets stuck in my head for days and the words are great , another song well done elton, your a man of many talents.
"memyselfandf " you are right, I live in South Africa and it is amazing to find that Elton has been singing and Bernie writing about South Africa since the time I was born (1980's)!! The most beautiful line in the song is where is sings about the "Transvaal sky". You will only know the Transvaal if you have been to SA especially before they changed the names of the provinces. The Transvaal is now known as Gauteng. Anyway, enjoy!!
I think that this was one of Elton's best albums. I am 51 and have been listening to Elton since I was 15. This site is great and I am glad you took the time to put it together.
Many people seem to be too reluctanct or lazy to open their ears to Sir Elton John´s discography. It´s a shame that they only know the same songs (Nikita, Daniel, Your Song, ...etc) because Elton is, for me, a true but not praised enough master, with a rather sticking rhythm in his songs; and this marvel is no exception. Wonderful song. Excellent electric guitar.

well, they know who u're, they know u love God, they know u're good, and most of the all, they know a lot of "top secrets" that most people don't know, but as long as u're condemned by ____ (u fill the blank), that person is gonna mentally & physically tortured and abused, slanders all surround and after u, and, they seem never "see" anything else on u. so, the best words to describe them are: torture-abuse freaks.
I remember when this album came out! I was still in Secondary School, and to this day, it still brings back some fond memories! I love Elton!!!!

All I can think about with this song is James Durbin. Both amazing artists.

this album "sleeping with the past" would have to be one of elton and bernie's
most underrated
sleeping with the past

healing hands

they are all great songs but do not get the recognition they deserve
