  • Thanks sooooooooooooo much for posting this! This is the best thing Blackmore ever did and he has done A LOT of great stuff over the years.

  • I listen to Ritchie one to two hours a day. I need Blacker's fix of the greatest of emotions and aggressiveness. So much passion..simply put 'The Greatest their has

ever been.' Just like buddy said.."A Teacher" and most of the time he gives his All.

I realize Blacker's and Gillan weren't the best of friends.

Shit happens when you put 2 geniuses on the same stage.

  • may i know the title of this background track? and from what album? I like it!!

  • @PamatawanBoy Its called ''Son of Alerik'' from the perfect strangers album, they actually didnt release it on the album but used as a B-side for the Perfect strangers single. They added it on the 1999 CD reissue.

  • Today not so much listen to Ritchie Blackmores music..Today everobody likes that heavy metal or pop rock shit.Today everibody thinks that Led Zeppelin are the best rock band in history..But they didn't realise that Zeppelin learned from Deep Purple, and every other group learned from Deep Purple and Rainbow..And Jimmy Page learned from Ritchie!!And every guitar pleyer learned from Ritchie!!

  • @cakodeeppurple Maybe apart from Edddie VH - he is truly unique also - just my opinion

  • @cakodeeppurple FANTASTIC COMMENT!!!DEEP PURPLE AND RAINBOW ARE THE BEST GROUPS EVER.SO MUCH BETTER THEN ZEPPELIN.AND RITCHIE IS THE BEST GUITARIST EVER!!!CHEERS!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Morse is good. But Blackmore is on the Patheon of the guitar gods.

  • Yes Hendrix was quoted as saying that he just wasn't as good as Ritchie and they actually insipred each other.

  • What the F*** can we say !! What ??? Richie the true Teacher

  • Ritchie Blackmore is BETTER than Jimi Hendrix!!

  • @jeffreygaudreault No Hendrix=no Blackmore. Read interview '72 tagelander(germany) Ritchie explaines.

  • Probably Morse fans.

  • @purpelaar They are stupid people that dont have a clue what greatness means! just listen, Ritchie is himself no fake bullshit, no copying true talent, his own style just like Robin Trower, you cant mask greatness, and you sure cant copy it! just respect it or dont comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great!

  • Six people must be totally deaf and probably judged the vid by it's unfortunately poor image quality (well, we know, it's mostly old footage from the 80's and 90's).

Other than that, this is simply brilliant, one of the best improvisations ever done by dp.

  • All the well known guitarists are truly incredible. Each of them has their speciality.

I bet you, as a guitarist myself, we learned bits and pieces from all of them.

We really can't compare who's better among them. Like I said they are all incredibly the best.

  • Thank you for posting this piece of THE GREAT ONE ....

  • Fantastic upload man...Simply fantastic...i downloaded this in mp3...cant stop listening to it ...this truly shows what this man is capable of....i had so much respect and admiration for him that i thought it was impossible to have more...but i was wrong !!

  • he visto muchas cosas tullas siempre que veo algo nuevo no puedo evitar el sentir el vibrar de tu guitarra rithie como lo haces y como lo sientes de nuevo gracias por aportarnos tan buena musica m. fernandez

  • Ritchie is very good

    Japan,aomori,kitakaze99

  • Undoubtedly Ritchie is one of the best guitarists of all time, but that's not enough. He proved himself as an innovator and creator of some of the most memorable riffs in rock history. Whether with D.P., Rainbow, Blackmore's Night, he excelled in all directions. He's quiet, temperamental, but a genius. He may not speak too often, but who needs words when he speaks through his guitar?

  • RITCHIE BLACKMORRE É O MAIOR QUITARRISTA SOLO DE TODOS OS TEMPOS.

  • 100% imporovisation during perfect strangers sessions.100% feeling, absolutely fantastic from 8:15 to the end!

  • I admire Ritchie, and I also consider him as (one of the) greatest guitarists ever, but I think you have to admit Steve Morse made a great job with Deep Purple and he was the best replacement for Ritchie. Long live The Ritchie! :)

  • @hary202 Steve Morse wouldn`t make a pimple on Blackmores ass as a guitarist.

  • @oberfour1 I agree. But just listen to "Contact Lost", "Sometimes I feel like screaming", "Loosen my strings"... Awesome guitar performances by Steve.

  • @hary202 Maybe I was a bit harsh. Steve Morse is good. He just doesn`t have the Deep Purple sound.

I think he`s better guitarist than Tommy Bolin but Tommy Bolins` style and sound fit Deep Purple better. I have Rapture of the deep and it has great guitar in it but it`s not Deep Purple anymore. Ritchie Blackmore has a glow or something to his sound. I can`t desribe it other than saying its magic! I been listening to the MRK1 albums lately and I really like Rod Evans Nick Simper Purple.

  • @oberfour1 Well, a band changes it's sound by changing it's lead guitarist. Just like Guns N' Roses lost their sound after Slash's leaving...

  • The guitar god ,no more to say !!!

  • Magia Blackmore

  • Nice job creating this video. Your choice for the song was spot on. Thanks!

  • He is the only guy I know that has more hair at 65 than he did at 20 - truly amazing :P

  • @jad1460

    Wig since 1977 :D

  • @jad1460

So what's his hair got to do with his playing?

    You fucking moron!

  • great vid.its difficult to say who the best rock guitarist is.its not difficult to say what rock guitarist has the best tone.RITCHIE BLACKMORE.THANX FOR THIS

  • ritchie took a lot of stick when he left purple me he will always be the guy who made so many people want to play me included thanx ritchie

  • The one and only guitarist who can not be replaced, Ritchie Blackmore!

  • Ritchie is the best. He can play any type of music from Rock to classical with total feeling.

  • Yes he is the god.

  • hij is de beste

  • Este é o verdadeiro rei da guitarra.

  • No matter what, Ritchie is my main influence and I can't go away from that. He cast a spell on me..the ULTIMATE GUITAR GOD!......So WHAT if he's not inducted to the ROCK N' ROLL SHIT OF FAME!

  • wow

  • ritchie was a moody sonovabitch.....but he rocked like very few people do...Go get Deep Purple in Rock..Its an anthem to guitar...and ritchie was playing it.

  • Blackmore is second to none. I`m pretty sure I heared them all. Ritchie Blackmore had the guitar in spades. Eddie Van Halen wish he could play like Blackmore!

  • Son Of Alerik

  • Name of this instrumental?

  • Guitar God EVER!

  • the best is David Gilmour but Blackmore rocks !

  • @pugilat123456 Don't even try to compare water to beer, they're both great, but they're different too =D

  • The God of the Guitar? hmmmm........unique player.. that's for sure.. but Guitar God? If there is a Guitar God it is Wes Montgomery. Go check 'm!

  • Smoke some then drink on the water...............thanks Richie for the last 40 or so years.

  • The man is Guitar him self

  • Comment removed

  • blackmore is most likely the best guitarist that has ever lived and my personal favorite. he is also the biggest and most arrogant mother fucker i have had the displeaser of meeting

  • You are right bro!... I forgot Blackmore's Night because is something different to the other stuffs (Deep Purple, Rainbow) but still nice... Thanks bro!... Cheers!

  • I saw his his son, but he's no match! Ritchie Rules

  • @rocksonSG

but jurgen is still fukkin awesome!!!!! :D:D:D

  • Love this song... No one plays the guitar with the feeling Ritchie does... Listen all instrumentals from Ritchie and all of them are like a journey to a magical place...

Son of Alerik, Maybe Next Time, Anybody There, Snowman, Weiss Heim... and maybe other ones that I don't know...

  • @JamesHowlett1974 ...Theres A200 ..Still i'm sad...Wring that neck not to mention maybe 10 or 12 more in Blackmores night

  • Blackmore is god guitar!!!!!!!! Супер!!!! Deep Purple forever

  • one of the best...but the god's guitar is hendrix

  • @purponi boring hendrix

  • Blackmore was a creator of guitar licks!!! A true master at his work. Jeff Beck is the other master!!!!

  • Oh well, since it's his birthday, it's only fitting that I post something on my facebook page from the man in black. A more thoughtful, soulful player does not exist. It's as much about the notes you don't play as the notes you do! Painting from the heart, rather than painting by numbers - yes mr Malmsteen, that last comment is directed at you...

  • When I heard DP for the first time.... Two things came to my mind... Guitar is going to be my favourite instrument and I am going to find out the name of the guitarist.... He has been such a great inspiration...

This song is very painful...It can hurt...

  • I wuld kill for few minutes of hearing the Blackmore live on the stage,The MANis the legend bigest of all

  • he is THE, guitar player.

  • In my opinion; this is by far the best tribute to Ritchie I've yet to hear. Thank you rainbow301.

Master Blackmore has been my favourite guitar slinger since '69.

Johnny Winter is a close second and Gary Moore 3rd.

  • Blackmore!!!! СУПЕР!!!!! rainbow301 ths!

  • slash is a drunk and a drugy, roger waters is self centered and tried to bring down floyd, what i'm getting at is who cares how a person is and enjoy what they do well.

  • I first heard Blackmore when I was 14 years old - 28 years ago now. He is simply a stunning guitarist, his playing has elements of inspired beauty combined with moments of hellishly ugly but controlled insanity. And don't forget the other driving musical genius of Deep Purple, Jon Lord on keyboards.

  • Just can't get my head around people bagging this guy. What is that? The mans a legend.

  • he is a legendary guitar player for his PLAYING AND MUSIC ONLY. the man himself is a 5-star asshole. just read stories about him.

  • @Zaltaire We've all heard the story's. The man.s a legend.

  • It's the old adage Roger Glover states:

"With Deep Purple..you either love us or hate us; there is no in between."..thus the same goes for Ritchie.

  • Ritchie Blackmore>>>>>>enough said!!! AWESOME!!!!

  • Ritchie Blackmore is a living legend.....long live the king of the six string!!!!!!!!

  • @harrymungus He is the best of all. Love him.

  • well said this man is something else......hes made so much good music...... hes in class of his own

  • Jimmy Page was an artist too.But Ritchie Blackmore is more than that, he is a legend.

  • so ure telling that Jimmy Page isnt a legend?)))))))hah

  • Both guitarists are legends to many various types of people.

  • @thierry1026 Is the man in black !!!

  • most ove you forgat Richi Blakmore he is one of the best ever

  • Stop comparing, these guys are gods!!What is even more amazing is that Page,Blackmore,Beck,Clapton all grew up near each and took over thw world!!.This will NEVER happen again,we all been very lucky to witness a miracle in the evolution of rock guitar!!!They all extremely different with different focus and goals(sorry but i cant include Clapton in the last part lol!)ENJOY THEM!!

  • you guys know what? ritchie brought fender guitar original sound quality... i envy him so much..great influence.. long live rock and roll.!!!

  • Ritchie!!!! Long life!

  • I love you too much blackmore!

    R A I N B O W

  • Greataer guitarist and rocker of all time...What a feeling...no one has so much fantastic different solos as much as him....Thank you Ritchie!Long live Ritchie Blackmore!

  • Dunno about you, but He is my favourite guitarist. long live rock 'n' roll!!!!!!!!!

  • I LOVE YOU!

  • The Man Of Rock.

  • An awesome video.

Ritchie is definitely my favorite guitar slinger.

  • Awesome drumming by Ian Paice as well I might add, as you were !!!!!

  • To the "man in black ", thanks for a lifetime of supreme music. Ritchie Blackmore forever !!!!

  • A mighty tribute!

  • Um tributo merecido!

  • Blackmore is a master, a magician... The only one, ¡the guitar god!

No one is like him, never, he's the man in black!

i remember When a Blind Man Cries... I cried with that song, is unique, a example of life and feeling for the life and the music!

  • if you listen to When a blind man cries with Steve Morse you cry, too - but for other reasons...

  • ritchie used to hate that song

  • yes I know, but nevertheless he played great on it

  • yeap, Ritchie did great ballads

  • @Nitro0193 blackmore e magico anzi unico grazie ritchie

  • @Nitro0193 I like 'when a blind man cries' and can figure out why Blackmore doesn't.

  • @800764 ; Yea I can too! The lyrics do no justice to the guitar work.

  • @Nitro0193 Well you can't say no one is like him as Yngwie has tried really hard to BE him. Unsuccessfully of course. Ritchie has style, taste, restraint something Yngwie clearly lacks.

  • @Nitro0193

100% Agree! My Farvorite Band And What I think the best over all band of all time is The Who.

Ritchie Blackmore is the best I have ever heard in my life.

I grew up in the 80`s hair band days. Rubbish compared to The Who Purple Floyd ,Zeppilen.

Techicaliy I don`t know who the best is. The best sounding in spades is Ritchie Blackmore. The four greatest men who ever stepped foot on stage is the members of The Who.

  • one can never practice enough to play like that.....awesome....

  • Thank You Mr.Blackmore for yours beautiful music,I weep now ...

  • why the f*** do u weep???

  • This music is synthesis of poetry and symphony...

  • well said, i agree........... i weep now.

  • best instrumental music i have ever heard

    INCREDABLE unwritetable

    dont miss sing

  • There is only two guitarists whose playing can move me to tears... One of them is Gary Moore and the other one is Ritchie Blackmore who without a doubt is my favourite guitarist of all time

  • Mine is ritchie Blackmore and David Gilmoure

  • David Gilmour is hell good! Yeah!

My favorite guitarists are very different than yours...

Look my two top FAVORITE guitarists are:

    Jimmy Page and Pat Metheny

(I love Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Jimi Hendrix and Ritchie Blackmore too)

    Two favorite organists:

    Jon Lord and Jimmy Smith

(I love Keith Emerson, John P. Jones, Booker T. Jones and Gregg Rolie too)

So many different styles of music!!

  • ritchie is better than page. Page is a god but is just blues,if you listen led zep 1 2 3 that it, thats the whole page style, maybe thenphisical graffiti, anyway Rithice expressed in many different ways rather than just blues

    mandrake root 69 progressive

    child in time 69 progressive

    mistreated 74 blues

light in the black 76 speed metal, hard rock

kill the king 78 power metal, hard rock

difficult to cure 81 classical, hard rock

    black masquerade 95, hard rock

    minstrell hall 97 Renaissance music

  • Yeah... Uhm... Okay... The word "better" is only in opinions, and cannot go in music... If Page is just blues, then what is Battle Of Evermore? Carouselambra? The Crunge? Bron-Y-Aur Stomp? Bron-Yr-Aur? D'yer Ma'ker? Fool In The Rain? For Your Life? Friends? Hot Dog? In The Light? Kashmir? Over The Hills And Far Away? No Quarter? Night Flight? Tangerine? The Rain Song? Trampled Under Foot? white Summer (and Black Mountain Side)? ETC?!

Page is just blues, you say? So what about these songs? Blues?

  • Seriously all albums of Led Zeppelin are so different and unique on their own... And well to say, Jimmy Page hardly plays the same style in each song, because in each song has a different feeling, therefore a different play... Jimmy expressed a lot, and a lot of complexity in Page too... Why say that about Page when hell I bet you didn't heard a lot from Page...

Both guitarists did a lot of styles and work.

    Why say that?

  • yeah sorry youre right I had to say "I think, in my opinion, etc"

As I said at the beginning Page is a GOD but I meant that if you listen some albums from Led Zeppelin you can understand and learn most of pagestyle. What I want to point out is that for most of people when they refer to Ritchie the just think "the guitarist from Smoke on the water" and thats it... and I would say that Blackmore did more stuff outside Purple and isnot so popular. Diferently, Jimmy page IS led zeppelin

  • Jimmy Page IS Led Zeppelin? What a joke...

Seriously, when people think of Jimmy Page, they think "the guitarist of Stairway To Heaven", when people think of Ritchie Blackmore, they think "the guitarist of Smoke On The Water". Check out all of those songs I tell, Page has a different style in each of them! But still if you're talking about Page style, you are probably referring to Led Zeppelin I and II... He had some of the same style there, but Led Zep III! Jimmy Page did a lot out from LZ too!

  • Remember both guitarists did a lot of stuff out from the band that is not known and not popular... For example Blackmore did Blackmore's Night and Rainbow and Page did The Firm and some albums with Roy Harper... And ETC for both guitarists! And BTW both guitarists have their own solid style of playing, because they both have their own soul in playing music, but there soul can perform different styles in their own way of soul, uhm, understand? What is a guitarists with no soul? Nothing...

  • haha yeah I agree, but you cant compare the projects that Page made with RAINBOW, Rainbow is not a project or a little band,it was huge!Catch the Rainbow, Tarot Woman...

But I meant that most of the work of page is on Led Zeppelin thats why I said JP=LZ. And you cant deny that JP is more known than RB.

Stairway to heaven is one of the gratest Zep songs,Smoke on the water isnt even the best song of the Machine head album.

Anyway both are great nd I admire both theyre the best of their generation

  • Smoke On The Water is however the most known riff on Earth... JP wanted The Firm to become big, but basically the only reason why people would go see The Firm was because of Jimmy Page because he used to be in Led Zeppelin. lolz... Jimmy Page didn't like that, cause they saw it was Jimmy Page and that he was in the great Led Zeppelin... And Jimmy hated that... when people look at Led Zeppelin, they saw it as Led Zeppelin, when people look at The Firm they see Jimmy Page. Poor Page... lol

  • Yeah, when people look see Jimmy Page, they think Led Zeppelin, when people see Ricthie Blackmore, some people thinks Rainbow, but the majority thinks Deep Purple (no offense lol)...

Luckily, when people see Eric Clapton, they think Eric Clapton... When people see Carlos Santana, they think Carlos Santana... When people see Jimi Hendrix, they think Jimi Hendrix... When people see Jeff Beck, they see Jeff Beck...

Basically they were (or became) single artists or had their name in the band's name.

  • That's what I find sad, when people think Sunshine Of Your Love, they think Eric Clapton, even though it was the band Cream that did the song and ot was Jack Bruce who made the riff/song/ most of the lyrics... Eric only did the solo and the chorus (lines and playing)...

  • yeah sunshine of your love is not his best song, and despite of being of the same age with Page and Blackmore, Clapton is from another period

O yeah its sad well for most of people Slash is the best guitarist palyer, come on! he puts a candle every night to adore this 2 guys :S.

Anyway and again, you cant compare The Firm with Rainbow!!! x). Listen the first 3 albums, especially the 2nd and 3th

  • Rainbow was in the mid-70s and The Firm was in the mid-80s, different sound of music... LOL!

Also you know what I find funny, no one knows Smoke On The Water, but they know the riff, but not what the song is called, lol!

But I still dig jazz guitarists more than rock guitarists... Lenny Breau, Wes Montgomery, Pat Metheny... Etc... Plus Jimmy Page, since Jimmy was such an influence in my life, I would add them up there... Al Di Meola is hell good too... And classical guitarists! Paco De Lucia!

  • Magnifico from oue Guitarangel Blackmoore

  • he's the great composer of the 70s/80s

  • This is one of the best songs ever composed.

    Amazingly incredible tone.

    Blackmore rlz.

  • blackmore......God of hard rock guitar

  • What a treat from The Master.

  • Soul music is exactly how I'd describe it too.:)

  • blackmore!! magister of hardrock and "father" of malmsteen...big giant the BEST!!

  • Blackmore is giant the way he touch in the guitar! and the way he make sound its all most like pray. its a relief to the soul.

  • Blackmore is giant the way he touch in the guitar! and the way he make sound its all most like pray. its a relief to the soul.

  • who do u think is worth being bearer of the titel "king of smooth playing"?

or does someone else know an example?

  • Gary Moore?

  • lol yeah but blackmores 'sloppyness' is now near as pages. and blackmore was only around that time but page was always sloppy. u kind of hoped u would catch him on a good night. however if look at concerts in the 70s where blackmore is at his peak and maybe the 81 and 82 u will see that the man is SMOOOTH and he can play! blackmore will forever be the maestro of the guitar, it does as he commands

  • I'm sorry I don't even like deep purple all that much, but that melodic solo at the end is sheer genius. Hard not to respect that.

  • I have no problem if people like Blackmore's

"style" more . Just wish they would take the God status off him .

  • if your saying page is a god and blackmore isn't then you are wrong but if you listen to page's live solo's you will know how much of a dick he is playing live especially lead solos.... this track you are listening to is actually a live studio jam from the perfect strangers studio tapes..page could never play anywhere near ritchies standard and I suspect he knows it so all you guys out there listen to how its played not whats being played

  • Blackmore is no god but he is the grandfather of rock!

  • Iam not saying Page is 100% original. No guitarist is . Just that Blackmore isnt as god like as he is made out to be .

  • You need your ears tested, if you think that!

  • hey all musicians steal but you like page personally I think he is ridiculas I like blackmore maybe you dont so what but there is no god like thing about any of them they are humans with great skills but pages skill is inferior to blackmores

  • Lol? hes the most underrated guitarist ever!.. btw, Page´s sound is like.. dont know.. like ear cancer.. especially his solos (he played not really clean), but Blackmores Solos are very clean, cause he has much more feeling.. in my opinion.. the difference consists in that Blackmore is/was the better musician.. ya, suppose not the better guitarist, but who cares? of course Blackmore can play Pages stuff.. like 1xx.xxx.xxx other guitarists.. Blackmore for the win!

  • I think Son of Alerik is one of Blackmore's greatest pieces...

  • type in "ricky nelson summertime " you will hear the same riff from Black Night on bass

  • That IS the orginal inspiration for Black Night

  • BY the way to all guitarists out their does your spouse or sig other find it weird if you get goosebumps when your fav solo or song comes on the radio.. My wife doesnt get it that As soon as I hear the opening riff to burn or the opening gong to kashmire I get these goosebumps all over my arms!!!!

  • So what.Led Zeppelin copied Whole lotta love. Most of bands have done it.

  • ye dude maybe, but he came out WITH SMOKE ON THE WATER! as simple as it might be, HE created it and that riff will always stand the test of time and forever be known by every humanbeing on this planet.

  • @LordTiahuanaco

Yes you are right! I'am going however to make a response from Jimmy Page. À suivre sur ce poste...

  • I guess my favorite Ritchie cut will always be Made in Japan's Highway Star... That my friends is one hell of a performance!

  • Alors là, ça me décoiffe...

  • Blackmore and Page worked together as studio musicans years before - Blackmore ispired Page and Page Blackmore.

  • Anyone got guitartabs for this ?
