this picture would look ALOT better if you picked the colour black, turned the opacity up to 100% and went over the entire thing, anyone who posts a comment in response to this one is just a slut who wants to suck my balls and is jelous because i get to stroke my dick and they dont.
yadaboy, art isn't just about pure talent people can create great art without being super talented.
you need to practice over and over to posess that talent anyways so don't ever tell him to give up! hes actually getting better as you can compare his two drawings in the vid.
i have only started using photoshop too. i think you are going about the whole picture thing the hard way, So far the way i do it is to draw quickly where everything goes, then make that layer less opaque then use those work out lines to to find the shapes of your shading value lines. then all you need to do is hide the work out layer lines and you will be left with a better look. Also instead of smudging use Guassian blur and keep layering dont be afraid to end up with over 100 layers!!
I REALLY suggest you "dive in" with real pencils. It's a COMPLETELY different feeling.
We learn not only by looking but also by touching - and this you don't get on a computer. Draw with a pencil - and you'll learn much more and advance much faster.
First - set up the "blueprint" of the face. The basic strokes. After that comes the shading and the details. You jump at shading and details too early. Make a 20-30 sketches only of the basic forms and boundaries. If you want to add shading make it very rough. After 20-30 sketches you should have an improvement.
To become really good at art...you must learn to 'see' as an artist; observe the geometric shapes that your subject is composed of... circles, rectangles, elipses, etc. To draw anything well requires mentally breaking down the subject to its simplest form, beginning with light guidelines that define the shape of what you are attempting to draw. No artist worth his training can just sit and create details in the manner that eclecticasylum does. Study Michaelangelo's techniques instead!
first of all, watch his vds where he teaches the basic shapes of the body, then do a light sketch using lines to detremin the shape of the head and the position of the elements, then use a brush with less hardness and set the flow down. that way u can blens the colors with the brush itself instead of using te smudge tool.
you need to draw really, really, light and keep evolving the light parts until you see it looks good, than fill in with a darker color, shading is last!

i think one of the issues is when you say you suck, honestly you may not be good with facial anatomy but the second time you shaded the picture it made a HUGE difference, you have a lot of potential, especially using digital art, which is practically impossible for me. great job and keep practicing!
faces are one of the harder things to draw. try drawing maybe some animals or landscapes to develop your line quality and shading, then work your way up to faces.
In his first video he talked about seeing with our brains, and that's clearly your biggest obstacle. Just draw EXACTLY what you see, and on a sheet of paper, not on the computer. It does make a difference, you'll see that later. You have some good techniques, but they can only get better!
One thing "drawing" utensils do that you're not is the opacity of the brush. Practice does make perfect, but the techniques they show are very...unrealistic because you're drawing what you see, and the proportions become very off, so what they do is very difficult for amateurs. Of course, practice will help you a whole lot, hope to see some more art!
Have you ever tried using layers when drawing wit your software?
If you use this method you can make changes and develop your drawing without having to erase. You can even trace photographs using layers.
I know some people say you should not trace but I find it useful sometimes when practacing proportions

Drawing using a tablet is far from easy and it takes a lot of getting used to.
Save all your drawings though so you can look back on them and see how your skills improve.
Do you draw from your imagination or do you work from photographs?
I can see you are getting better allready.
Keep on drawing!
Best wishes

Use construction lines, and use a layer under that to figure out everything before you do details. Just search 'figure drawing'

I think you should stick to observational drawing for now. Make lines as you see them.

you should practice drawing the shape and form of the face first before you go into tones

the second drawing was really funky and cool looking.
try a picture with no shading, just working on the proportion and shape of eyes and nose and mouth. you'd do great.

1 tip dont use the blur and smudge tools, they just make things worse, try blending by putting the opacity down and going over the colour.
