The variator is the the left and right part and the belt including.

No, it's not since, on full throttle, belt is driven all the way up on front pulley, when variator is restricted, belt cant be driven up, on front, because restricting ring inside doesn allow puley to get closer to other puley, and to raise the belt.....its better to derestrict scooter, because, on smaller RPM you get same speed, which means longer engine last.....sorry for my bad english, im from Croatia....

huh weird i thought it would have gone from big to small considering the gearing on a regular bike

@willcraigle I think it does on the clutch side. For the fastest speed on a bicycle you put the chain on the biggest front sprocket and the smallest rear sprocket, so the CVT does the same except both at the same time.
