in fact it sure made me upset that after i started listening to his music i find out that he died and it pisses me off that every good artist i can ralate too is dead....maybe its just because im an acctct as well and certain words can not only be heard but can be touched..................................
Well what i think that was pretty uniique was that, when i feel in love with his music, some people fall in love with any kind of music in some odd way, when i ended up getting the flu and just feeling like shit and hot and just shivring cold on the ouside i ended up coming across one of elliot smiths songs...."Twilight" i knew right then and there that his spirit entered me through my feelings/physical feelings an character of sadin an sickness.....note: "Twilight" " is the only "Twilight" i know
haunting. his music makes me want to cry because i can only think hes not around anymore to make more beautiful heart breaking songs like this. everything about it him is raw and pure and true. thats why i love him so.
@goldflakedpaint123 You know what else would make cry, if you really saw what a flakey, maudlin, poser you are....You're the type that only gets into someone after they've killed themselves and you buy inyo all the romantic hype and mystique that surrounds the dead artist.
@flowerdoodle hmm.. well i love how you think you know me.. but if you did youd know i randomly found a cd of his in my house and fell in love.... then i found out he was dead. elliotts music is haunting no matter what. i didnt mean to offend you or nothing. and im not on of those ridiculous people that listen to this and think i need to act like him or dress like him. i just can feel his soul in his music. i never once said i liked him cause he was dead or whatever. thanks for the assumption
@yacupyavez OH BROTHER! (insert Vomit noise here) Do you know how silly and embarrassing what you wrote is? What hes writing about is his own trip, life through his eyes, his inner problems, observations---find your own trip, be true to thine own self. He was just some dude who sang songs--not a god
i used to listen to this song on repeat for days at a time, and now 10 years later i still need to go back to it occassionaly. it still haunts me what a genius es really was
@ElCheapoVideos okay I hear that now. I thought it was "wouldn't BE a hero if I wasn't such a zero" both true I guess. Good guess on my part he is a hero but will never call himself one. Thanks.
This song just floors me - I continue to be amazed by Elliott Smith's keen pop sensibility and talents as a songwriter. It's interesting that many of his songs are quite catchy and hummable, so much so that it may initially detract from how dark the lyrics actually are. For instance, when I heard this song for the first time I found myself humming the "I wouldn't need a hero if I wasn't such a zero" line before the weight of the lyrics actually hit me. Anybody else notice this?
@dharmaluvsu Of course, I don't think the realizing how depressing his songs really are make them worse though, in fact it's hard to make a happy song and have it sound really good/be popular.
yeah wow I've done that with a ton of his songs recently. I played 'fond farewell' and this like 10 times in a row the first time i heard it. this guy rocks on.
Don't have any ill against kurt, but, elliott was diametrically the opposite in many ways. speculation will be all anyone has. That he's gone, is the only certainty. How and why or when will be bandied about. I just miss him.
Its easy to tell he stabbed himself, i mean listen to his songs. Especially the ones released after his death. Very sad, he was in a state of depression; and i think he decided to end it.
actually they thought it was suicide at first but the biopsy shoed it was a murder and he DID have defense cuts on his arms showing he tried to defend himself.
Nope, well there's probably a few people who know what happened to him. But the information about how he died is not for the public to read. So you can technically say that the cause for his death still is unknown.
its a possibility, but why would they keep away information about a guy like elliott, who wasnt a superstar. like I personally believe he killed himself but the only other option was jennifer chiba, I believe there are only two options. but there were not hesitating or fighting off the knife marks on his body, which kinda goes against the jennifer theory.
Now, I am a huge nirvana fan, and I beleieve Kurt killed himself as well, but his story has a much better chance of being murder with all this little things that point to them. but for some reason, I never meet any nirvana fans that thinkl it was suicide, which upsets me because they cant accept that he really did it to himself
I used to be one of the many fans who believed Kurt was murdered, but now I just don't know what to think. I started off thinking it was suicide until I was about 13. That's when I began reading about Kurt's Death online, and was influenced by the things Tom Grant had to say about it. I still haven't made up my mind over the matter. Damn that man and his theories. :P
i think most of it is that suicide is the most likely motive and murder is not a likely motive like you just said because he isn't/wasn't a superstar -- although I am pleased to hear some of his music made into guitar hero :D
@Jozsus, not all homicide victims are superstars. I can find you plenty of graves for people who were murdered and you'll never recognize their names. Still, he had a few million in his bank account. People have been killed for less.
@jcupsmells1 Yeah, he did have a decent amount of money which in invested in his studio and charities. Around the time he was doing "Figure 8," people were hounding him to get the album as fast as he could so he could do another tour and make more money because he had less than $1 million at that point. Less than a year after his death, Chiba tried to sue for 15% of his money which was about $1 million and lost. I don't think he was the type of person to care about that or act differently.
@VincentPrice111 Do you have a cite for that I haven't seen or read? You could be right, I suppose. I just doubt it. In any case, it was money and hardly anything of any importance regarding Elliott, at least in my opinion.
@XHolmes19X Well of course it was, the amount isn't exactly important of course, people have killed each other over much less than. I just recall reading some where (and having my brother tell me) that he only made a million dollars.
Actually, you can read the autopsy papers and everything online. There's a reason they're unsure of whether it was suicide or homicide. Things are pointing both ways. The case is still open right now. It doesn't really matter though. He's gone. Enjoy his the brilliance that is his music.
I only keep living to listen to your music these days

i THINK elliott says
"i wouldn't need a hero"
instead of "wouldn't be a hero"
but i dont know. it just seems to fit better in my opinion.
im not trying to be some anal jerk about it, just seeing if anyone else thinks so.
