did anyone lessen to what she sed pet clip not show trim hand strip if the dog is in show if just a pet clip the body you have to hand strip all the time and pet owners dont wont to pay more money every 4weeks to get there dog stripped its easier for them to just do a clipped westy trim all this bitchy shit OMG get over it

u don't have to have your pet westie hand stripped there are other ways to get the same results by using a #4 or #5 blade on your westie s body don't make it look like he has a skirt u sue the tenique called carding and use coat kings will look like u spent hours hand stripping. i know because i have been a dog groomer for 30 yr

how costomers like their westies look like is personal preference and nobody's business, but this is not a pet variation of traditional style according to breed standard, The body pattern didn't showcase the body structure and muscle tone at all. Although the theory was said but the clipper failed to follow the theory. I found a link in google demonstrate the traditional pattern, this pattern can be achieved by clipper.

You don't cut westies hair with blades! In order to make westies coat look best (and for skin health reasons) it has to be pulled out... It goes without a question... same is with other dogs with coarse coat (airedale, schnauzer, etc.)

Ok I have heard all that before but explain to me then why Olivias skin and coat are in excellent condition? She has never been hand stripped and she never will be... her owners simply like her clipped. :) I have never had a problem caused by clipping... sorry but I just don't believe in handstripping the pet dog. ;)

It's a matter of not only owner preference but also coat condition and dog's temperament. I've seen some dogs who have been handstripped and for no apparent reason the coat texture changes and handstripping is not possible. It's most common after spaying/neutering, hormonal changes for some reason alter the suitability of the coat for stripping. There's no written law that says YOU MUST HANDSTRIP YOUR DOG.

@bachelorettepl skin health reasons? what a load of crap! Westies are prone to skin conditions which are genetic, not caused by clipping the coat!! Majority of dog owners these days clip westies, airedales, schnauzers, scotties etc.

Skin problems are not caused my clipping the coat! Majority of the time the dog has a skin condition as the result of a genetic skin condition or an infection!

Go on a proper grooming course before saying that you MUST HANDSTRIP Westies!!

Thank you so much for your tutorials! I have a Westie and I've always wanted to learn how to groom him on my own. His hair isn't as thick and fluffy as Olivia's though. It's kind of stringy and a little more sparse (he has a skin allergy which made his hair thin out but it's growing back now that we've changed his diet).

Anyway, I have a question - what brand of clippers do you use?
