HA HA! Nice! Someone snapped their fingers at one of my servers yesterday and she turned to the lady and said, "Ma'am, I'm with another table. I'll be with you in a minute. And I'm not a dog, you don't have to snap your fingers at me."
Most servers find it very disrespectful when someone is snapping to get your attention. One friend who works at one restaurant, where people pay upwards $300 for a 4-top at lunch, mentioned if a customer snaps at a server they'll be asked to leave.
Raising your finger has the same effect. I personally have had a few people turn to the table who snapped their fingers at me and tell them not to for the same reason. I treat them the same regardless. Snapping makes them look stupid though. I giggle
Which is why I personally don't consider it a big deal. They probably don't remember my name even though they want to or it's that they need something right away and they know it'll get my attention. Good point. Extra thumbs up for ya.

Some people snap their fingers when they don't know what to say. Even in a conversation:
-"I don't like uh...Ahhh...What was it...*snap snap snap*..."
-"You mean plagiarism?"
-"Uh-huh! yeah, that's it, plagiarism! That's what I was trying to say!"
So if I were a waiter I wouldn't be offended if I see someone struggling to come up with a word to call me, and snapping his fingers.
But yeah if someone is snapping their fingers to degrade me on purpose, I'd be pretty pissed to.
