For everyone arguing which sniper from which country is better, none of you have heard of Coast Guard HITRON yet, a sniper group so elite they could wipe out most snipers on the planet.
Everyone who is posting which country is better than others at shooting a gun has to understand that every country has very gifted shooters and then the average shooter. Even at the special forces level, there are ones better than others. If you really think the best snipers are at these competitions then it makes sense why you are arguing about it in the first place. The best snipers are over seas somewhere making sure other men don't die, not in competitions. These are your average guys.
I mean, why do the US not fight against China, or Russia? Oh yes, ups I forgot, they are stronger. The very china women army would have more snipers then the number of US Citizens. So pls spare us with your cowboy stories and arguments.
Sry,, ajr666, that is not a comparison, because the US is just the country making the most wars on the world, never in peace allways in ware. My grandfather was a French sharp shooter during WW1. He shot german officers while they took their mroning wash from a distance of over 1km sitting in a tree, without any scope or sight help, with a fucking 22clbr. (6mm). No special bullets, no special powder^^
Why would snipers compete about getting the longest-range kill? It seems...inhuman. Kill to beat a record. A soldier is supposed to kill to support his mates and protect his life, not to win some dumb competition
Oh my goodness, it's all about the individual man...all of them are good, no doubt, and countries matter very little over here, the individual is what counts most, time, effort and determination.
I looked it up and the Army Marksmanship Unit won the international sniper competition 2 years in a row followed by the 75th ranger bn, both US.....so what's your point?
canadien sniper are way better that u.s.a just look at operation anacona canadian sniper shot a guy at 2.5 kilometers if you dont belive me than do your reserch
U think making 1 shot 1 time by 1 individual makes the entire Canadian Military better snipers than the US?? Carlos Hathcock, a Marine, made a shot from almost the exact same distance as Furlong in 1967 and he did it with a Browning .50cal Heavy machine gun, not a specialized Macmillian Tac 50 Sniper rifle with specialized modern optics. Not only that but he did it on the first shot, where it took Furlong 3 tries. 90 percent of long range sniper kills in Afghanistan are mae by US snipers.
It was ONE shot dude! What have they done since then? I could see ur point if the Canadians were consistently making these long range shots; but they arent. The US on the other hand IS consistently making shots well over a mile. Sgt. Brian Kremer for instance made the second longest confirmed kill in history, only a few meters short of Furlongs at 2340 meters. But unlike Furlong he did it on the FIRST shot, it didnt take him 3 trys to hit his target! Why hasnt a Canadian done that yet?
@ajr666 who gives a fuck about navy seal missions, im talking about snipping... canadian snipers make shots close to these consistently, we win snipping comps all over the world, so try to find some lame excuse,,,
First, those were not SEAL missions, they were SNIPER missions carried out by US SNIPER TRAINED SEALs. Second, the most renowned sniper competition in the world, is the one ur watching right now. The US Army International Sniper Competition; and guess whos won for the last 8 YEARS IN A ROW?? Yep, its been either the US Army or Marine Corp; and they dont just win, they DOMINATE! And third WHO GIVES A FUCK ABOUT COMPETITIONS ANYWAY?!?! Its all about how u perform in ACTUAL COMBAT!
U can train all u want and enter every sniper completion in the world; none of it is worth one day of ACTUAL combat where the enemy is actually SHOOTING BACK at you. The US has 70000 troops in Afghanistan, thousands of them are Snipers. Canada has maybe 1500, w/ only a dozen or so Snipers. The numbers dont lie, our snipers have tons and tons and tons more ACTUAL combat experience than the Canadians; and Im not even counting the thousands in Iraq for 7 years now, Canada had ZERO in Iraq btw!
@ajr666 there are way more then that in afghanistan.. how the fuck do you know? are you part of the army personnel? you dont know what actually is going on unless your in the army.. the public stuff is about 10% of what is going on, so i wouldnt be relying on your "numbers"
No theres not. Yes I was in the Army, from 96-04, but that doesnt matter anyway. U dont need to be in the Army to get info thats available to the PUBLIC. Canada has only 2800 TOTAL troops in Afghanistan: 2 Battalions of PPCLI totaling about 1600 troops, 200 pilots/aircrew, and about 1000 support staff. Each of the 2 Battalions is made up of 800 soldiers, and 8 Snipers are attached to each Battalion. Thats a TOTAL of 16 or so Snipers. Believe it, dont believe it; it doesnt change reality.
@ajr666 Afghanistan is not Canada's war... we're just there as good allies and were waiting for us to get out of Iraq. There we're more troops in the mid 2000's but we're gradually taking them out. Are next send off will be are last one. we have 65000 troops which isn't a lot, but we're one of the best trained in the world...
US Army Sgt. Gilliland set a new record w/ the standard issue 7.62 sniper rifle by making a confirmed kill at almost 1300 meters! Why hasnt a Canadian done that yet? US Army Spc. Ranstad made a confirmed kill in Afghanistan at over 2100 meters!! USMC Sgt. Reichert made a confirmed kill at over a MILE, taking out 3 insurgents hiding behind a brick wall w/ only ONE well placed round!! Thats 3 insurgents w/ ONE round from ONE MILE away!! Why hasnt a Canadian done that yet??
A US Navy SEAL (name with held) providing Sniper cover for the Marines, took out a loud speaker that was shouting out US troop position to the insurgents. Hers the AMAZING part; the shot was at almost 2500 METERS!! Thats even further than Furlongs, it just wasnt a kill so no one ever talks about it. But as documented in Hans Halberstadts book Trigger Men this shot is very well known w/ in the Sniper community. Why hasnt a Canadian done that yet?
Need to make a correction to my post. The shot took place in Fallujah in 04, and was from a Navy SEAL DevGru operator, who was confirmed by JSOC as well as Navy SEAL Chris Osman to be supporting the Marines w/ Sniper fire. The shot that took out the loud speakers was NOT from 2500 meters, it was from 3000 METERS, and was confirmed by sources as well as Hans Halberstadts book "Trigger Men" on page 158. This is believed to be the longest COMBAT Sniper engagement EVER! Sorry Canada.
Or what about the Navy SEAL Sniper Team that preformed a HALO jump from 25000ft at night into the ocean to rendezvous w/ a Destroyer. They then took aim at 3 Somali Pirates holding a hostage in a lifeboat. They then performed 3 perfectly timed simultaneous headshots on the 3 Pirates AT NIGHT from the pitching and rolling deck of the destroyer, all while the Pirates were bobbing around in the ocean with a Hostage just inches away! A PERFECT MISSION! Why hasnt a Canadian done this yet?
Im assuming u think the Brits r the best because they hold the ever changing record for longest kill? By that reasoning if tomorrow a Sniper from Turkmenistan makes a 2490 meter kill, then ALL Turkmenistan Snipers would be the best in the world?? That’s ridiculous. The US held that record for 35 years w/ out it being broken; but in just the last 8 years it has been broken 4 TIMES!! Don't get to comfortable w/ that record; just ask Carlos Hathcock or Aaron Perry or Brian Kremer, or Rob Furlong.
@ajr666 you state in a comment that 90% of long range sniper kills are made from u.s. snipers, were do you get this info from?? do you get a phone call every time a shot is confirmed? i think not,you obviously think that america rules over everyone,longest..1st britain 2nd canada not sure about 3rd,ok u.s.a.
@cptskellern Well to answer ur question the info came from Major John Plaster during a Q&A session at Shot-Show a few years ago. U should know who he is if ur commenting on this topic; if not look him up. No he didnt say 90%, but he did say the VAST majority of all shots in Afghanistan beyond a mile are taken by US Snipers. And for ur info the 3rd is US Army Ranger Brian Kremer at 2340 meters, 5th is US Marine Sgt. Carlos Hathcock at 2300 meters, 6th is US Army Spc Nick Ranstad at 2200 meters.
@ajr666 thank you for the info, iam aware of what youve told me,to be honest it dont really matter who is better than who,as long as the job is done, thanks and respect.
@ajr666 first year of top sniper international on the military channel was won by a canadian sniper team... but in this trade there is no saying who is better than who. snipers aint suppose to brag about a kill
@derekdl7rock $5 says your 5-12 years old. Why don't you come over here, and yell that out at a football game. It'll be entertaining seeing you as the football.
@squidscape you shut the fuck up too you little bitch its none of your buisness and give me my $5 dollars or no its ok your just defending your little boyfriend
@derekdl7rock What I said doesn't relate in the slightest bit to a person, my comment was to your comment. No one cares what you think about your country, was my point. Where did you get any clue that I was defending someone?
Oh, 2 more things kid, if your shouting it out on the internet, a place EVERYONE can see, I believe its anyone and everyones business.
2nd, I want my $5 because you proved my point, only a child would act in such aggression.
@ajr666 this is why the US military praises the canadian snipers as some of the best in the world.. not to mention you keep sending your snipers up here to train with our guys... obviously you have to have better snipers, we just train you and make you into who you are.
I believe it took Hathcock more than one shot, but he took single shots because the fire rate of the gun is slow enough to squeeze off single rounds, and i may be wrong but i thought it was an M60?
@Kerenskyz15 No it was a Browning M2 50 Caliber heavy machine gun. He figured out a way to mount a Unertil optical sight on it. Also, a Browning M2 can be rigged to fire single shot. Becaues of its weight, if you go to the trouble to sand bag the tripod mount it is an extremly stable weapon. This story has acutally been confirmed though I can't remember the source.
@ajr666 You don't think that the fact that the US has ten times more snipers in Afghanistan, than everyone else put together, can be the reason why the US snipers gets 90 percent of the long range kills? Seriously, think before you write!
@ajr666 Please explain why US Snipers did not win any events in recent Military and Police Sniper World Cup which was held in Budapest on 30th May, 2011.
Do you know that China Snipers using China made guns dominated. They came first in four out of five events. The Czech Republic came in first in the other Event.
The competition involved 24 excercises from 20 to 400 meters over a period of 3 days in real life situation
i wouldn't knock canada too much. i can't remember the guys name but he did a goofy little traveling show demo where he would hip shoot a quarter out of the air. he'd end by shooting same quarter twice in the air. a quarter is hard enough to hit when it's sitting still and aiming at it, let alone when it flies up in the air and spins and you shoot with your gun at your side. bunch of other people probably can do this as well but that's still insane shooting no matter what country you're from.
blah blah Canadians my ass, whooptie doo...they can shoot a rubber duckie from 300yrds away with their eyes closed...yadda yadda when it comes down to it, they're a bunch of pansies, just like the french...can anyone say "we surrender" better?
What makes canadians pansies? The fact that Canada was the first country to commit troops to Afghanistan or maybe its the 118 soldiers and 2 diplomats killed in Afghanistan helping defend your bankrupt country.
I believe that the S.A.S. and the U.S. Army have the best snipers in the world, I also think it is pretty damn funny when Canadians act like they got the best in the world. Lol, stupid ass Canadians.
The longest range recorded for a sniper kill currently stands at 2,430 meters (2,657 yd, or 1.51 miles), accomplished by Corporal Rob Furlong, a sniper from Newfoundland, Canada, in March 2002 during the war in Afghanistan. Furlong made this record-breaking kill while he was participating in Operation Anaconda. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) at the time. To make the kill, he used a .50 caliber BMG (12.7 mm) McMillan TAC-50 bolt-action rifle.[8]

Amen to that, its normal the US always win those competitions, they are the only ones that wage war for no reason and well... its cheated and its propaganda
Actually, while the SAS and US Army have excellent snipers, the Royal Marines have good ones too. And a Canadian Sniper just got the longest kill shot in history. The Canadians actually taught the US alot of the trade.
The S.A.S and U.S Army have VERY GOOD snipers, BUT Canadians DO have the BEST. I didnt beleive it when my mate first told me, but facts are facts, Canadians are the best. There are other very capable snipers out there, but Canada has produced the best.
you say canada is the best. so give us the facts. during every international sniper comeptition the usa has won! so i dont know what ur tlaking aboot.
it's actually a known fact that canada has the best snipers in the world. the american military actually pays the canadian military to take canadian snipers with them on missions such as operation anaconda. Thats when a canadian achevied a world record for longest sniper kill.
"realistic" try it with gear on. you want to see a range go run range 400 in twentynine palms. are all you pendelton guys still training with blanks???
I'm not in the military. But I am aware of the all the shit Nat'l gaurdsmen get from other branches. But, aren't allot of guardsmen ex enlisted men who want to get back into the fight? I saw a Discovery chnl show about a Natl Guard spec ops unit in Afghanistan. They were get'n DOWN on these terrorists dude! (crazy) Don't you think they deserve just a little respect? Just sayin. ... The fact that this "guard warrior" is even AT the competition shows he's pretty bad ass.
any one in the service has my respect. Im a marine. You have to understand that there will always be a level of competetion between the branches. everyone makes fun of everyone else. Try not to take it too seriously. semper fi
Right. Of course. I understand what you're saying bro. I've got allot of Marine buddies from Camp Pendelton, they always bust the balls of the reserve guys. It's pretty funny, I just watch them bicker lol. anyway, keep up the good fight man. later.

i wouldn't knock canada too much. i can't remember the guys name but he did a goofy little traveling show demo where he would hip shoot a quarter out of the air. he'd end by shooting same quarter twice in the air. a quarter is hard enough to hit when it's sitting still and aiming at it, let alone when it flies up in the air and spins and you shoot with your gun at your side. bunch of other people probably can do this as well but that's still insane shooting no matter what country you're from.
XthawiscokidX 2 years ago
blah blah Canadians my ass, whooptie doo...they can shoot a rubber duckie from 300yrds away with their eyes closed...yadda yadda when it comes down to it, they're a bunch of pansies, just like the french...can anyone say "we surrender" better?
trokenbroken 2 years ago
What makes canadians pansies? The fact that Canada was the first country to commit troops to Afghanistan or maybe its the 118 soldiers and 2 diplomats killed in Afghanistan helping defend your bankrupt country.

I believe that the S.A.S. and the U.S. Army have the best snipers in the world, I also think it is pretty damn funny when Canadians act like they got the best in the world. Lol, stupid ass Canadians.
FatHeadedSniper 3 years ago
Yer an idiot, Fact,
The longest range recorded for a sniper kill currently stands at 2,430 meters (2,657 yd, or 1.51 miles), accomplished by Corporal Rob Furlong, a sniper from Newfoundland, Canada, in March 2002 during the war in Afghanistan.

Idinatan 2 years ago
Actually, while the SAS and US Army have excellent snipers, the Royal Marines have good ones too. And a Canadian Sniper just got the longest kill shot in history. The Canadians actually taught the US alot of the trade.
CaptainAmerica322 2 years ago
The S.A.S and U.S Army have VERY GOOD snipers, BUT Canadians DO have the BEST. I didnt beleive it when my mate first told me, but facts are facts, Canadians are the best. There are other very capable snipers out there, but Canada has produced the best.

As an Australian Soldier of some 22/15 years I find that your competion is a load of "CRAP"
Your Chalange games are to say the least "Bullshit" which only goes to show that you are not training your troops to fight but be television stars.
If you want them trained to survive in peace and War contact me.

it's actually a known fact that canada has the best snipers in the world. the american military actually pays the canadian military to take canadian snipers with them on missions such as operation anaconda. Thats when a canadian achevied a world record for longest sniper kill.
nicko435 3 years ago
go ahead. get an american soldier to shut his mouth. I'll pay to see it.

National guard warrior" ?? hahaha omg.
baker98745 4 years ago
I'm not in the military. But I am aware of the all the shit Nat'l gaurdsmen get from other branches. But, aren't allot of guardsmen ex enlisted men who want to get back into the fight? I saw a Discovery chnl show about a Natl Guard spec ops unit in Afghanistan. They were get'n DOWN on these terrorists dude! (crazy) Don't you think they deserve just a little respect? Just sayin. ... The fact that this "guard warrior" is even AT the competition shows he's pretty bad ass.
bubejunkie 3 years ago
any one in the service has my respect. Im a marine. You have to understand that there will always be a level of competetion between the branches. everyone makes fun of everyone else. Try not to take it too seriously. semper fi
baker98745 3 years ago
Right. Of course. I understand what you're saying bro. I've got allot of Marine buddies from Camp Pendelton, they always bust the balls of the reserve guys. It's pretty funny, I just watch them bicker lol. anyway, keep up the good fight man. later.
