You realize this wouldn't work on a garage door with windows right? All you have to do is smash the window and cut the zip tie. People with windows on the garage door would have to cut off the arm, that is the only way. Leave a little material left on the arm for pliers or channel locks to lock on if you need to use the release.
That method will make your Emergency Release lever inoperable. If there was a fire or power outage you might have a difficult time finding a cutter especially at night.I just purchased THE GARAGE SHIELD.It only took me 2 minutes to install and it was really inexpensive!!And my Emergency Release lever is still functional.....
It's not going anywhere, I will give you that, but that also can be bad. What if a child gets caught under the door? You can't pull the release rope and you might panic. That is why garage door opener manufacturers developed the emergency release handle, because in the '60's kids were getting killed by moving garage doors, so the government created a law that states that all garage door openers must have a means of releasing the door from the opener, and later, a force reversal setting.
It's a really crappy Chamberlain. Bargain-basement deal at Menards that I bought 7 years ago when my old motor broke.
The sensors are wired up so they face each other, on opposite sides of the door. If something gets in the way, like a spider or leaf blows around, the door will jerk to a stop, and go back up. This gets really annoying when you have to keep backtracking to the garage to re-shut the door...couldn't even shut it with the button anymore because of them...
Maybe, there is just too much movement in our garage, they were always getting banged up, dirty, and it was just too much hassle to have to keep realigning them...

If you don't have kids, it's not a problem.
I ripped the sensors off of mine. I got tired of them stopping my garage door from shutting...

Then how does your door shut? Unless it's an older system, the door shouldn't close without them...
Or did you tape them looking at each other?

Surprising. I have had a Chamberlain since 2007 and I have never had a problem with it. I have a feeling yours were just out of alignment.
