Sheldon commits his own historical inaccuracy here. Old English had letters that modern English has lost, among was the letter "thorn" which looked like a cursive uppercase Y and was pronounced with a TH as in then. So, depending on how its drawn, Ye Olde would have been pronounced "The Old."
