  • Anybody whose main influence was Ray Charles is okay with me.

  • He has a gentle, southern accent.......

  • I love this man!

  • Nice haircut.

  • Saw Edgar Winter in 1977 at the West Palm Beach Auditorium. What a concert, he played Frankenstein and after that Johnny came out on stage. The concert really rocked out then. One of my favorite memories from my concert era. Thanks for the memories.

  • His hair looks like if I touched it, it would feel like silk.

  • This guy is nothing more than a genius...

  • Is he blind??

  • @Jacksonrr123 no.

  • Had the opportunity to talk to Edgar at the monitor mix at a club in '99' while Johnny was tear'in it up on stage. He told me about his 'Winter Blues' CD the was com'in out in a day or 2. This is a great CD with a lot of great blues players on it! On of my favorites!

  • One can TELL the influence Ray Charles had on Edgar. Just listen to some of his vocalizations in some of his songs when he sings, the evidence is all there. A fantastic talent he is !

  • Is he gay? im not trying to sound like a jerk or anything i have nothing wrong with homosexuals but he does sound a bit feminine.

  • @123bamtobam No, he's married.

  • @123bamtobam He does sound effeminate, but he's just a gentle and soft-spoken fellow. Married for many years...

  • @beeroosterm No he doesn't. Boy George is feminine.

  • @1spati Boy George is far more than feminine; he's a serious fagola. Edgar is a just a mellow dude.

  • @123bamtobam I don't think he sounds feminine at all.

  • I met Edgar and Johnny at the Doheny Blues Festival in Dana Point, CA back in '99 or so. Edgar was a very, very gracious man, and very friendly. It was almost like he couldn't believe that all these people loved him. Very humble. Could be because he's been somewhat overshadowed by Johnny (who was also playing the festival). Johnny sat just offstage during Edgar's set, and vice-versa. Everybody was hoping they'd hook up onstage, but no luck.

  • not sure Mr. winters has the full wrath of what he's done.

  • I saw Edgar in a small club in Colorado Springs back in '86 and I was a fan of his from the early '70's. He is a very gifted muscian just like brother Johnny. I love what he did with songs like "Frankenstein" and even his easy listening but heart felt "Autumn".

  • My favorite musician of all time... I have the LP, cassette, CD, and digital versions of They Only Come Out At Night. That whole album never grows old. Got White Trash and Shock Treatment, as well. I got to see him play one time and was mesmerized, though didn't like the guitar player he was using at that time. The guitarist was more of a shredder and not in the same vein as Derringer or Montrose. Didn't matter... I got to see my hero!

  • Im going to see Edgar with Rick Derringer & Ringos all stars this summer in A.C.Oh Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

  • EW & JW A+. JW IS CLEAN. JW IS 64 OR 65. he has been on the road since he was 15 . i spent over 20 yrs on the road clean or dirty. it makes old men fast.

  • Multi-talented genius, I have always admired

Edgar.Inspired by him, esp when it came to drums and synth!!!!!!!! Great works this man has done!

  • The man sang like an angel too. Anyone who heard him in the earlier years knows his singing was as great as anyones!

  • Edgar Winter, James Gang, and Rick Derringer. I think if I can remember I was in my young teens in Columbus, Ohio and here comes Frankenstein wow we were ripped what a show.

  • Anyway ... I LUV THEM BOTH !!!

wie auch immer ... ich liebe beide !!!

  • The Winter Bros. are awesome together or apart. They have lots more musical talent then most of us & a bit of soul too! Still Alive & Well.

  • Edgar didn't mention Freddie King as an influence on Johnny.....He must have forgot.

  • Excellent point.

Any blues guitarist, actually, . . . . any musicians who came from that area of the country (East Texas, Louisiana, etc. . ) was influenced (in some way) by Freddie King. I don't see how you couldn't be. Freddie laid down the law for that type of playing.

  • this guy convinces me very much

  • I wasn't making any excuses, nor need I. Perhaps a little self examination is in order before you start casting stones, at Johnny . . . or me.

  • This is not the proper venue for this discussion.

  • I sure argree with that. Stick w/music. Johnny's is great, so's is Edgar's.

  • Yeah...Edgar seems lucid AND humble. Good catch.

Johnny seems pretty much like you'd EXPECT a drug-using rock n roller to look like @65.

Can't stand, all tatoo'd, one eye shut.

It's sad but thankfully not ALL guys turned out that way.

Watch the interrview in this seris w/Ian Anderson.

He could NOT be more normal.

    Very heartening...

    Big Daddy

  • Johnny can't stand because he broke his hip and it didn't heal properly. He is legally blind and I think his tats are superb. Each has meaning to him. Plus, his skin is a perfect canvas for an ink artist.

  • sepulchre10 thy name is ENABLER.

    haha

    Big Daddy

    Making it plain...

  • You could say that. I assist people disabled from birth to fit into society as much as they wish. It is my sincere hope is that I'm thus an ENABLER.

I don't praise Johnny for doing drugs or burning his candle at both ends, but I certainly would not berate the man for physical disabilities that he did not choose.

  • An 'enabler' is an EXCUSE-MAKER. I think you wear that title well.

But you make a good point. NOBODY should berate the man for physical disabilities that he did not choose.

    But, that's a 2 edged sword.

We all are accountable for the choices we DO Make.

    Big Daddy

Choosing to give Yeshua my Best...first.

  • Big D, most albinos don't make it past 40, much less 60. The WInter brothers are both in great shape, regardless of youthful indiscretions. Two fine, talented, devoted treasures who have spent their lives enriching ours. What have you done?

  • PROVE your assertion that most albinos don't live past 40.

I'll prove my assertion that most guys using drugs/alcohol like a lot of rock stars don't wind up in really good shape!

    haha

    Big Daddy

    That was easy...

  • Johnny in "great shape" not so much. I saw him a couple of years ago and he has many health issues. He even needs to be helped out onto the stage, and plays the whole concert sitting down. Still a great talent!

  • nossa albino nao vem pra cá,ak e muito sol

  • What a very modest and humble SUPERSTAR. The younger generation should take a leaf out of his book and explore the vast musical universe.

  • Edgar is a big time Scientologist.

If I had to chose btw Scientology and drugs....I'd chose what I did...

Become a WONDERFUL Born Again Believer!

    Whooooooooooo!!

    Thank you, Yeshua!

    Big Daddy

  • Imagine being able to say your were Edgar Winter's piano teacher?

  • these cats today don't have a clue.

if you were part of this by-gone era concider yourself lucky. the music biz today is tone deaf.

these musicians interviewed ( all great) wouldn't stand a chance in todays music biz if they were just starting out.

  • You're right

  • I agree wholeheartedly.

  • Sounds like you just don't know where to look. The young players today have such a great foundation to build on, thanks to the talents of earlier generations, who really didn't have anywhere near as much to draw on. Keep looking. There are more great bands than ever before.

  • Saw Johnny play live in Long Beach in the mid-'70s. Brownsville Station opened for him. To say Johnny rocked the house that night would be an understatement. He came up with wild riffs that I hadn't heard since the incredible days of Hendrix.

  • I've met both Johnny and Edgar. I love them both, but Johnny needs to get clean. Edgar is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Not that Johnny isn't, but they're just two very different people.

  • the blues is here and now more than ever.

  • Very talented

  • The blues had a baby.

  • How can someone so cool play so hot? Johnny & Edgar are the tippy top of the entire musical spectrum. The BEST!!!

  • One of the most gifted & multi-talented instrumentalist in the music scene without a doubt - I have much admiration & respect for Edgar Winter - his contribution to the rock scene & music scene in general is just great!

  • Been a fan since 1974!!!!

  • This is great stuff! Music Education! Thanks Winter Family for your Music, Johnny and Edgar, my family and I have had the pleasure of opening for them both in Cedar Rapids, IA.. THANK YOU AND HELLO FROM THE JANEYS
