  • Please don't diminish the impact of your fine playing by saturating your sound with too many effects in the future.Using a more basic set-up as you are doing here allows your soulful qualities to shine because it is more honest .

  • You have obviously never tried it...

  • People need to wake up and realize the Tanabe Dumkudo and Zenkudo kick ass on the Zendrive! I had the Zen did not like it, sounds sterile, sold it. The Dumkudo is an amazingly versatile pedal with the 3 mode switch, sell the ZEN, buy the Tanabe Dumkudo!!!

  • @otisray99 bullcrap

  • Dude you've got great style man, seriously. Like good melodic playing in blues is not as easy as it sounds

  • Whats that song at 3:40? Or is it just self created improv background

  • john mayer!!

  • Really great sound, which amp do u use? Fender Blues?

  • The pedal sounds nice ...are you on the clean channel of the amp ?/

  • are you John Mayer? you're pretty damn good. sweet tone.

  • Tasty stuff man!

  • great demo and great playing!

  • Nice play style. 100% JM, but done well :)

  • oooooooooooooooooooooooo ya.....the meters....

  • What an amazing pedal!

  • Hey nice playing, is that a 62 hotrod strat ? I just got one myself, great big chunky neck on them.

  • Larry Carlton and Robben Ford have been using Dumbles for many years, way before Mayer. However if you read interviews with Robben, when he is traveling he often uses a ZenDrive through a Fender Super Reverb rather then take his expensive Dumbles, for example, overseas. In his (dated) gear video on here, he also espouses Fender Twins. I've also heard a video on here with a played playing a Les Paul>Zendrive> Twin and just nails that tone.

  • how old are you? how long have you been playing? great job hear! love hearin all the john mayer in this

  • Nice playing! I love my Zen...the more I use it the more I get from it.

  • the first you played, isn't that what john plays on the "200 guitars" video when he plays the L5?

  • Found this on a forum.

someone found Johns Settings from when he still used a Hot Rod Deville.

Hot Rod Settings: Treble 6, Bass 9, Mid 4, Reverb 5, Presence 6, Bright setting off

  • How long did it take for you to get it after you order it from Hermida?

  • I ordered one on a sunday and received it thursday : ) shipped internationally too!

  • more rock less talk

  • Great JM sound! Really good licks! Email me the tabs for the intro to city love cross orads version please.

  • transcribe!

  • 3:09 to 3:58

  • hey what are you playing at like 3:50

  • well at 4:12 he plays cissy strut, 3:50 he is finishing up a little jam that is pretty sweet. in between, we call that noodling.

  • Can you do a John Petrucci solo?

  • can you get the i dont need no doctor solo tone with this?

  • probably. this pedal gets a dumble like tone, and two rock amps (the one's john mayer uses) are made to sound like dumble amps as well. JM also uses this exact pedal.

  • does this get you the closest to JM's tone? i love that creamy, squishy tone on the song Belief from the WTLI DVD. you know what im talkin about?

  • that clean tone is the result of a $45,000 amp called a dumble as well as his Two-Rock amps. This is why you never hear a clean tone like Mayer's...no one has the amps he has....

  • well, i knew that...... but im not talking about clean tone, at all.

and i've answered my own question - this does get you closer than anything. N/M p/u on a Strat>zendrive on low gain>clean amp with reverb (some delay) is mayer all the way

  • if you turn off the gain knob, does it give you clean tone?

  • great playing man

  • haha dude i feel the same way!!!

lol i have a pod x3 live it all just sounds fakish!

    haha good luck man!

  • Great job man I'm sure you've had lessons but it's take all kinds of hard dedication to play like you I play as well but I don't have a camera to post video's right now. Plus your more of a jazz/Blues sound. Me I like playing that but I'm more of a Heavy metal person. Once again great job!

  • Hey man how much did u pay for that zendrive?? Where did u get it from??

  • Great tone, I have a 62 HR strat and a 410 Deville also. I normally use a TS808 but it gets a little muddy at times. If you want some crazy ass distortion try running a BIg Muff through your Deville on the "More Drive" with your tone on your guitar turned down. It's like a wall of sound!

  • SWEET TONES. This clip pushed my over the edge to order a Zendrive. coming tomorrow!

Any tips or things to study (scales, etc) to play like your style?

  • Thanks! The pentatonic scale is a good scale to learn. Listen to a lot of different artists...it will help mold your own style :)

  • The Mixolydian is good too. You can mix it in when penatonic licks to get a Jazzier/Jam band type feel. I find it useful from time to time to vary my licks.

  • I need this one : )

  • Subscribed, lets see more. Great playing. Have you checked out mayers dvd "where the light is"? If you haven't its a must buy,

  • Nice tone mate.. some great licks.. need one of those amps..

  • your setting in your zendrive?

  • Tone-3; Volume-9; Gain-3; Voice-3

  • Hey dude! Is it possible for this pedal to get the tone of John mayer's strat, like it sounds when he's playing crossroads with Eric Clapton in this - watch?v=Zh4n1bZi4d8 -??????

  • Oh ya, you could get if very close to the tone on that vid.

  • Hey man really nice playing, TONE is gr8, where did u find that pedal??How much did u pay for it??

  • I found this one on eBay, although you can find it on Hermida Audio's website for $179 I believe. Thank you!

  • What are your pickups? I really think your tone is amazing!

  • I never really found out what they are, but I think they are just called Hot Rod pickups. Thanks!

  • sounds really great! Have you tried an xotic bb preamp? Very nice as well. Maybe one day we can trade.

  • can you tell me how much that costs and where you found it? i love it i want one.

  • You can go to Hermida Audio's website and they have them for $179+shipping, but I've heard there's a pretty long waiting list. I got mine off of eBay for around $200. You should definitely get one...it's my favorite pedal :)

  • thanks!, are they relatively new? because i think i might just wait for the comotion and the price to die down

  • That I'm not sure of, but I think right now the wait time is relatively short.

  • Wow, you got very good ideas, I could say this is mayer playing if, I had only recording.

  • Thank you very much!

  • At 2:36 you played a country lick that I'm pretty sure I heard Peter Vogl(sp?) play on a video on youtube.

Could you direct me to where you found it?

  • Sorry my guitar teacher taught it to me. I'll try and find it, though.

  • im a big fan of you..

i've watched all of you vid.

you not a best guitar player in youtube but it's great for a 2 years old player!nice tone you've got. you've inspired me.

    rock on dude!!

  • the part starting at about 3:11 , you are doing some groovy finger stuff. is that a particular song, or is it just a bit of tasty improv?

  • It's just a little groove I made up. Thanks!

  • very cool, very mayer-ish.

  • I like that pedal! Gotta get one of those! But of course, the guy at the controls (you) deserves most of the credit for how it sounds!

  • Seperated at birth? Nice playing, tone and gear.

  • very dumble like. cool sound, cool playing. why is berklee in the tag?

  • I like Berklee :)

  • yeah, I am also 15 and looking to go there. I don't know if I will apply though. Anyway cool stuff.

  • asweme

  • Hi Miles, "that" is a great sound and your playin' is awesome, good feeling*****

    I agree, there's a diference between a multy-board and separated pedals,

    i'm also in for separated,

it's like a'n amp. with tubes or transistors,

    good choise !!!

    Grtz---Kurt---Belgium...

  • sounds good, but i like your tone in your City Love video better.

  • Great tone. Really liked your rendition of "Red House" at the end. How much did this pedal set you back?

  • Thank you! I paid about $200 for this on eBay.
