People need to wake up and realize the Tanabe Dumkudo and Zenkudo kick ass on the Zendrive! I had the Zen did not like it, sounds sterile, sold it. The Dumkudo is an amazingly versatile pedal with the 3 mode switch, sell the ZEN, buy the Tanabe Dumkudo!!!
Larry Carlton and Robben Ford have been using Dumbles for many years, way before Mayer. However if you read interviews with Robben, when he is traveling he often uses a ZenDrive through a Fender Super Reverb rather then take his expensive Dumbles, for example, overseas. In his (dated) gear video on here, he also espouses Fender Twins. I've also heard a video on here with a played playing a Les Paul>Zendrive> Twin and just nails that tone.
probably. this pedal gets a dumble like tone, and two rock amps (the one's john mayer uses) are made to sound like dumble amps as well. JM also uses this exact pedal.
that clean tone is the result of a $45,000 amp called a dumble as well as his Two-Rock amps. This is why you never hear a clean tone like Mayer's...no one has the amps he has....
well, i knew that...... but im not talking about clean tone, at all.
and i've answered my own question - this does get you closer than anything. N/M p/u on a Strat>zendrive on low gain>clean amp with reverb (some delay) is mayer all the way
Great job man I'm sure you've had lessons but it's take all kinds of hard dedication to play like you I play as well but I don't have a camera to post video's right now. Plus your more of a jazz/Blues sound. Me I like playing that but I'm more of a Heavy metal person. Once again great job!
Great tone, I have a 62 HR strat and a 410 Deville also. I normally use a TS808 but it gets a little muddy at times. If you want some crazy ass distortion try running a BIg Muff through your Deville on the "More Drive" with your tone on your guitar turned down. It's like a wall of sound!
The Mixolydian is good too. You can mix it in when penatonic licks to get a Jazzier/Jam band type feel. I find it useful from time to time to vary my licks.
Hey dude! Is it possible for this pedal to get the tone of John mayer's strat, like it sounds when he's playing crossroads with Eric Clapton in this - watch?v=Zh4n1bZi4d8 -??????
You can go to Hermida Audio's website and they have them for $179+shipping, but I've heard there's a pretty long waiting list. I got mine off of eBay for around $200. You should definitely get one...it's my favorite pedal :)

SWEET TONES. This clip pushed my over the edge to order a Zendrive. coming tomorrow!
Any tips or things to study (scales, etc) to play like your style?
SteelStringSlinger 3 years ago
Thanks! The pentatonic scale is a good scale to learn. Listen to a lot of different artists...it will help mold your own style :)

Hi Miles, "that" is a great sound and your playin' is awesome, good feeling*****
I agree, there's a diference between a multy-board and separated pedals,
i'm also in for separated,
it's like a'n amp. with tubes or transistors,
good choise !!!
