That's quite the interesting conversation. And the band name, too, is also brilliant. Reminds me of that Phish song -- wait a second, what's the name of that Phish song?
It sure is on the tip of my tongue. Boy, how that faulty memory of mine deceives me. What the hell is it called? Man, it's a really good song, too!
Oh, now I remember. I believe it was called "Simple." (And we play Be-bop in the band.)
Not sure how I found this video -- or how it found me? -- but it looks very interesting.
@rockin3b really? you're going to let the musicians' political opinions ruin the music for you? I'm a republican, but dear God man, enjoy the music these fine musicians are creating and leave politics out of it. I pity you.
@AndyMartinfan Wow you will not believe this but I swear it is true. Last weekend had a recording session and layed down extra sax harmony tracks on horn parts that included Carl on trpt.
I was talking to a cat about how great Carl is he and in reply gave me the Be-Bop big band cd. I put it on my IPOD at 10 am today and then you email me your comment a few hours late. I must have been in a p-off mood the day i posted my bs. Check out Martin on the new cd Aurora - Pat Williams
I am sure all of you have heard of me, but I am keeping my troll status anonymous. I have nothing to gain by pointing out my work to you after trashing the above saxophonist. So what's in it for me? Invitation isn't a bop tune lol. Spoken like a true nub. That was practically the Berklee theme song when I was there years ago.
It was NOT originally a bop tune. Diz, Bird, Monk, Powell did NOT write this. This is a song written by Bronislau Caper who composed this song as the main theme to a movie called Invitation during the 50s. Because it's such a great song it has been embraced as a jazz standard.

alto man should understand the name of the big band a bit more clearly. it's 'be bop' big band, not bop rock fusion funky japanese wannabe band

So where's YOUR sax video, maybe you can show everyone how to play.

Brian Scanlon went to Eastman School of Music, plays lead tenor in Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and is a TOP CALL studio musician!
You?
Also, Invitation isn't a Bebop song. It's from an old movie from the 50s with a lot a minor chords allowing for a lot of options.

Most of the old standards were never jazz tunes. Show tunes, movie tunes etc. For some reason I dig Invitation in Bb- rather than C-.

@KlassyKamikaze, Brian Scanlon is my sax teacher! He's a great guy!
