It was originally written without the phrase "One nation under God", but this was added I believe some time during the cold war as a counter-communism measure. It is now redundant and religiously intolerant but it will not be removed because the vast majority of Americans are still Christian and would take offense to a normally rational action. Saying things like that dosen't make you any better than these people. Did you consider that perhaps the man talking and the other people in the senate were Christian who were perfectly fine with the prayer? Also, have you actually read the 4 Gospels and heard what Jesus had to say? He didnt say anything about hating on people of other religions. The institutions that Christians have created do that and when you examine them one comes to realize that they violate the commands of their own God.

Truth is not synonymous with god, nor is the biblical god inherently synonymous with what god there may be.
Jesus, Lord, Yahweh, God, or Allah do not appear in The Constitution or The Declaration.

@DeconversionCentral actually, while not intended, god does have things to do with the government. do you think we will ever have an openly atheist president? not for 30 years is my guess. if that early. because of the majority rules factor that our country is run on, christians do infact hold more power than others. not individually, but as a group. and since the government likes to place people in groups, i say thats a fair statement.
