  • baaaaaa!

  • glynnth...: a mammal with NO sphincter muscle? are you sure about this truly bizarre piece of data? where did you get it from?

  • I love rats, hate religion

  • I still believe in God, but does God still believe in me?

  • Kill Ugly Naked

  • Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky fall

Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky

  • god is a concept, by which we measure our pain

  • god is indeed a concept, by which we try to measure everything.

  • Yes, John Lennon, towards the end of his life, refuted that comment, & said he did believe in God. ( It's a lyric , btw, from John Lennon's song "God", for those who may not know.)

  • Nope, that was just one of those conversion rumors. People are still trying to say Darwin converted on his death bed.

  • For all I know, Darwin had always been Christian and/or a theist.

  • No, he was agnostic during his later life.

  • Hey, did you know that rats have no "sphincter muscle", so they can't "hold it", when they have to "go"? So guess what's happening, when they're crawling around in that guy's plate of food?? Ew, Ew, Ew, Ew, Ew!

  • its a firgure of speech , you religon-ites!!!

Like, God Damn man, or God you people suck, or God I hate religous people , or God Damn it that is blasphmey!

    stfu please thank you

  • Humanity, you know you hardly ever come through..

Humanity, you know you hardly ever come through..

Should I take my gift of free will away from you...

Because you only seem to use it to say "Screw You" ---God

  • you guys REALLY shouldnt be dissing somones religion even if you dont believe in itcause its really mean but 2 the god beleivers don't judge them cause they dont believe cause thats also mean. to pdxfreethinker we can't all live on truth alone but its good 2 hear when called for. to all the belivers THEY WILL NOT GO TO HELL FOR NOT BELIEVING!!! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR HEAD THIS INSTANT!!!! i'm catholic so i used to believe that but i grew up and and found that its dumb that god will only let us in

  • Amazing the way she continues on without batting an eye at 2:04 when the rat crawls down her blouse.

  • Well, everyone have their own faith, whether it is a religion or not. I believe in myself, myself as the only one in my life that decides who and what I am, and what I think is right or wrong. The whole salvation part is hypocritical. I mean, "I have sinned, but it will be fine because I truly believe in God and so he will forgive me" I think you got to make up for your own mistakes. You can't just put your problems and failures, your life in the hands of something unseen, or someone else at all

  • Yes, but...

in the words of Bob Dylan, "You can't rely on your conscience to be your guide, because it's YOU who must keep it satisfied."

Not necessarily a definitive statement, but something to think about.

    Keep learning.

  • Deepmind, I do agree on that... I was just saying that I don't think that we can rely on something that we have never seen and put all our belief into that. We have got to believe mostly in ourselves:)

  • well, I also believe we can't rely on something we've never seen...but, I see God in everything, as I apprehend existence as an incredible, inexplicable phenomenon. There is nothing BUT God.

And we are part, albeit a small part, of God.

  • I think it's great that you have such strong opinions and I really respect that. Believe what makes sense to you, right?

  • Tori is effing brilliant!! I love her!!

  • im a catholic and i love this song, its just, well, i dont know why i like it but its really cool.

  • I think you're wrong. People that care about the truth don't lean on nonsense as a crutch.

Even if an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent deity of any sort does exist it is without question culpable for every tragedy that occurs. Interesting how superstitious people think "god" needs to judge us, yet if such a thing exists, it is "god" that needs judging.

If you've read the bible, and all the atrocious things that "god" is accredited with there, and still believe, you have no conscience.

  • I was gona comment on this but since I've read sumone elses comment on this whole blown out of proportion comments, I've decided to refrain. I wish the best for u! Good luck!

  • Even as a conservative Christian, you have to admit, she proves a point. God won't answer every single one of your prayers. I don't think she's going against a higher power, I think she's making a valid point: you have to rely on yourself and not an omniscient being to take care of everything for you. Think before you speak, and the world will follow.

  • AMEN, ghostynoises!

  • It's a song and a video. People go apeshit over something trival. What I find interesting are the supposed religious fanatics who waste their time posting comments here. Personally, I have always saw this song and video about her own question of faith about the negative things that happen in life. The song proposes more of a question than some militant statement.

Anyhow, in the end, it's just a song. You hate it? Then watch something else.

  • I love ur comment! Thanx! I didn't think that such a comment would make such an uproar?! But there it went! LOL!!!

  • Alright, who let the conservative lunatics in??!

  • hahaha

  • This song is awesome! and Tori Amos is not on crack, the people on crack are the delusional religious people. And god is not flawless because how can something that doesn't exist be flawless.

  • "Tori Amos is officially on crack

    okay you think God's imperfect

well how about you trying creating a world sometime"

Clam-up, lighten-up, and enjoy the video. Tori Amos is one of my finest creations; hell, she even gives an all powerful deity a major chubby.

Loosen the bone a little, Wilma. You'll live longer -- if I allow. it.

    --Geebius, the one true god

  • its a fucking song, chill out.

  • but it does have a good point to make if ur catholic

  • stop freaking out, its a song dumbass. guess what asshole, the world is not 5 thousand years old. its 4 billion years old and there is no supernatural event that will happen that will stop teh world from rotating. you can talk all the shit you want and think your right but you believe the bible and the bible has shit about talking goats and guess what dickhead, there is no such thing as talking goats.

  • you're insane...he's not reeeeaaaaal

  • this song kicks so much ass.

  • this woman is a true genius no doubt about it

  • Seriously, where are the women who have a fraction of this woman's brilliance. We have been listening to years of women's rights and such. But Tori embodies everything I wish for in a woman and yet somehow after all this progress I can't seem to find one that is less concerned with her appearance than the heavier implications of humanity's plights. Tori, if you're listening, I would love to probe your thought process...

  • hey ghostynoises, no doubt she's brilliant in the videos and on stage. I love her stuff just like you. But if you idealize her, then you'll never find a woman who will reach this ideal. Even you are not more perfect than anybody else, nor is Tori. And I think you're pretty wrong if you think she doesn't care that much about her appearance.

  • *sigh*

  • Women are still not encouraged to be daring musicians in the way men are. This is why the ones who have ignored that paradigm (Kate Bush, Bjork, Nina Hagen, Diamanda Galas, Tori, etc) are revered as Goddesses. Female musical genius is an entirely different creature - and too often we have women who are trying to be like the boys (or what the boys want), ignoring what they really have.

  • probe your "thought process"? LOL.

On a serious note though, I totally agree with you. Superficial women are a product of society's relentless conditioning, I mean we're so BOMBARDED with expectations to "look" good - from men, other women, adverts. magazines, TV, you name it. Our "minds" seem to fall by the way side a little bit. Maybe if we had more men like you things would change.

  • :) I want to say something insightful but, eh, words fail me. I just wanted to say something along the lines of the way that sex appeal is so much more than just looks. Real sex appeal anyways, and a sexy mind and personality are a HUGE part of it.

  • this video adds a whole new element~She is so unique-love it

  • I miss the 90's, the era when women actually had intelligent things to say and didn't think showing off their bodies and singing raunchy lyrics just to attention was consider art or music.

  • GOD? are you with us? why let us suffer..

  • buenos los cambios de voces de esta mujer.

  • This is a great example of a video sticking to the song's original message. It does a supurb job of blending the sacred with the profane. Just like the song.

  • I admire her honesty and willingness to 'open' herself up through her music to God and us humans; I have a feeling that the latter are far more judgmental and unloving...

  • ahhh-mazing!

  • the video is about rituals wether religious or profane... and if you must know in some culture the rats are considered sacred like the cows in India so for those who posted acid comment they should try to broaden their horizon every once in a while. It's a great video and the work of Tori amos is incredibly rich and inspiring. She really is unique.

  • When this video first came out in the 1990's, Tori talked about how the whole Rat thing etc was like a cleansing ritual in some countries....

  • I'm not all that fond of rats and snakes as the kind I'm usually around are definitely neither friendly nor domesticated and come equipped with both sharp teeth and very short tempers...but I like Tori and have a certain grudging respect for her ability to make this video with all of the...critters. She's also rated as one of the top piano players anywhere. Kind of a child prodigy who managed to put it all together and made it work. I'd like to see her perform live someday. Good show and G'day!

  • Beyond that, the video adds another entire level of meaning to the song.

I haven't read all the comments, so I apologize if this is rehashing material already covered, but the religious services shown in the video are a few of the more...unusual practices that are actually undertaken in real life.

On the surface, this song is about God. If you listen closely, it's about a man. If you watch the video again, it flips the song back around and makes a startling commentary on religion.

  • Maybe I just have a different religion, but this is some freaky stuff! You may catch me hitting on Tori, but you won't catch me dead with those rats! YUCK!!! Tori just got a little less hot in courtesy of this video...

  • she definately makes you think. thats why i like her

  • i forgot to mention that was proverbs 31:3 not tori's words.

  • when she says "give not thy strength unto women or thy ways to that which destroyeth kings" tells the whole point of this song/video, my opinion.

  • "So you can make me cum .. dos'e it make you Jesus..???Tori Rocks

  • "will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky fall? Will you even tell her if you decide to make the sky at all"... She has some great lines. I loved her back in the day.

  • a note on rats and her handling one I have had rats as pets, the domesticated variety ,,they are very sweet and gentle when bought young and hand tamed, they are affectionate and as smart as a dog.

  • @snorp73.That's a pretty bold statement coming from somebody who has probably never created anything or has anything to contribute to society other than trying to be a internet tough guy,and failing.

You should educate yourself a little bit about that you criticize.Fifty years from now people will still be listening to Tori Amos, but some gay guy with conservative views will be long forgotten.

  • That's a pretty bitter statement for someone unappreciative of other opinions.

Strong words usually indicate a weak cause.

Nobody even remembers this nutcase anymore. And having a video with rats crawling on you is not a creation of art....it's an easy thing to do and anyone in here could have done it.

    Her best was Cornflake Girl.

    Quit being such a girl.

  • snorp -obviously several people remember this incredibly talented artist that you refer to as a 'nutcase'. And some of us always will. Her lyrics are powerful and insightful, if you understand them. and look at the hundreds of thousands of times her videos are viewed. don't say no one loves her or remembers her. and stop saying remember-she's still awsome!!!

  • P.S. Please be respectful of Women! The statement "Quit being such a girl" is not correct...and you know it. You probably don't mean to offend anyone,so I am just letting you know!

  • Well, if what you say about Amos is true, then fine. I just happened to like Cornflake Girl and I think she's a good piano player. This one though is a little out in left field, sorry. Moreover; it seems your description of Amos would make her a "woman" - no different than distinquishing a man from a boy....and I'm sorry, some that should be men act like girls when it comes to dissenting opinions. You on the other hand responded like a woman (or a man) not quite sure the right sex. ;-)

  • Hello Snorp73,

u probably wonder why everyone is "attacking" u for your opinion. I understand that 2 u Tori may seem weird and "creatively challenged" but it is best 2 look at the bigger picture before judging. Tori is extremely creative, so creative in fact that she created RAINN. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network also known as the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization.

One of Americas 100 Best Charities" (Worth magazine).

  • At 2:04 where does that little rat go?!??

    TORI ROCKS RATZ AND ALL!

  • Ha ha ball pythons are the gentlest snakes in the world. Now if she had been handling rattlesnakes, that would have been pretty cool.

  • this is the bazarrest video i've seen. The rats are gross.

  • I ♥ this song ☺.

  • I love this video, the music, the imagery...her...everyhing.

  • see, now, I just don't understand why people have to "thumbs down" a comment like this. It's just this person's opinion. Are only positive cookie cutter opinions allowed here? People with negative opinions are just expressing themselves the same way people with positive ones are

  • Most people don't understand Tori, but those who do benefit greatly from her prosaic thought and beautiful melodies. She is one of a kind & there will never be another.

  • lol, some idiot has been arguing with me that Madonna is more creative than Tori Amos and Bjork.

    So laughable.

  • i own this cd. it's so good

  • Concordo, sem comentários... para bom entendedor, ponto é vírgula!!!

  • She seems like a free spirit but wtf at the rats?

  • It's a temple in India where rats are worshipped :)

  • Tori is "Witchy" with that talent and that voice!! Never again the burning times!!

  • Sorry I meant she's not a pop star wannabe I just realized my typo in the other comment. Sorry! ^_^

  • Oh...Now I see, I couldn't imagine anyone thinking that Tori's a pop star wannabe (LOL).

I admire the fact that you corrected that.

  • I love this

  • geeeekky much?

get over it, tori amos is absaloutely amazinggg :)

  • i need a poo

  • That comment was for

Jess0nntherunn ha ha! I saw Tori in Seattle on the "Under The Pink" tour-she rocked live as she she does in this vid! I LOVE TORI AMOS!!!!!

  • Tori Amos rules, this jealous little slut below me can't accomplish even half of what Tori has in her whole career.. She probably can't sing or play piano either...

  • The fact that she's even in the record sales contradicts you're statement that she "hasn't accomplished shit."

You should watch what you say.

You end up sounding pretty ignorant and stupid.

Go preach somewhere else, you didn't even spell blasphemy right.

    Idiot.

  • Well, I'm afraid I'm not 13, and I'm afraid I haven't watched 33, 000 videos in the span of a few months? I've watched about, hmm, 2500? And.. In the span of a year. So sorry to disappoint.

And I am not "bullhurt" (sorry I didn't know that was an expression). I was simply stating how flawed your logic is.

I'm not the one flaming videos I don't even like, so you should be the one who thinks about getting a life.

Atleast I know how to spell and use grammar properly.

  • I would any bet that you are actually the one who is 13.

  • I can't believe my eyes...Tori Amos being compared with Shitney Houston, Celine Dion... Listen, one thing is having a voice and other thing having talent. Those girls you mention can actually sing, but...can they write? Do they the piano? No, they don't. Tori does. By the way, selling millions of records only proves one thing: that the more you pay in a radio station, the more they play your tunes.

  • I mean...*do they play the piano?*

  • It's not Tori's fault that she's an artist and a pop star wannabe. I think if she wanted to just sing for money she could, but she likes to create music. It's called having talent something that Celine, Whitney, and the others don't have.

  • Admittedly, Tori is an acquired taste. But you are on a downward slope in many aspects of your comment in putting her in the same category as Whitney, Madonna, Martina, and Celine. Whitney is R&B, Martina is Country, Celine and Madonna are both pop, and Celine is only doing Vegas shows at this point. Tori is Alternative/Rock/Pop, and her music makes people feel something. She has talent just as the other people do, and her voice is customary. People get sick of the same cookie-cutter shit.

  • because knowing a thousand genres is more important than knowing actual music and record sales are everything aren't they? :D

  • Actually, I am a musician, and I look at all of it before I form an opinion. I think of Tori as an artist, and I have 4 of her albums. ANd record sales don't mean dick. She has sold enough to live well, and she makes music that makes her happy and reaches people.

People are always making comments about something when they don't understand the message being conveyed.

  • This woman is evil.

  • She wants to have sex with rats?...this video doesn't make sence...the song sucks also...nothing but noise!!!

  • Then why r u watching it?

  • If you don't like it then don't watch it-or spend time here talking bad about it! Damn, get a life! If I don't like a video here I don't hang out over a period of days talking about how bad it is! Just say what you have to say and then leave! Sounds good to me...and I LOVE TORI!! You have your opinion, and we who LOVE TORI have a right to OURS! Or are you a religious nut that wants to tell us how to live/think as well as what we should like? We can LOVE TORI if we want! No judgments from YOU!

  • Tori Amos? Quality voice, quality music. Shes one of those women that you think `Yeah, go on then, i'd have a go on that`, but you're not exactly sure why.

  • she's great...but im afraid of rats!! how the hell she did this video!! makes me shiver...

  • the rats are ok with me lol the shaving part i just think she is going to get a cut... not sure but that is the part that gets me. I do love the song though

  • excelente genial maravilloso alucinante

  • You're a stupid piece of shit. Period.

  • you make pretty dasies.

  • This song one of her best!!!

  • This woman is fearless.

  • Tori did some great stuff in those early 90's...These great stuff still is great...

  • When she made this video, Tori had a problem with the rats. The rat trainer told her that the rats were as gentile as her mother, and Tori told him that her mother would not poop on her.

  • wow, really? For someone with a "rat problem", she seems to handle herself and the shot very well.

  • I love Tori; I've grown up with her music, so much depth and quirky lyrics. Her voice is unique in a way that she's ethereal at one moment and raw the next.

  • This is her best song. I like how the rat goes down her shirt at 2:04.

  • lol--I Like how she doesn't even move...

  • rats!!!

  • and why is that

  • lol, the man at 3:33 looks like he's getting chocked, I love this song, and the video is so cool. I don't mind rats and I love snakes.

  • Tori Amos kicks butt!

  • Buffy, I love your description, "Windshield wiper sounding guitar"--great simile(?)!

  • Funny how little we hear from this amazingly graceful, strong and talented lady... TFP!

  • damn..this is powerful good stuff.

  • Seriously, I miss videos like this. I was born in the late 80's but mostly grew up in the 90's. Seeing the quality of music videos through the years has gotten worse. Everything is all glamed out and uses different film and camera "techniques." Back then videos were very artistic, distant, dreamy, but yet so surreal. I miss integrity, but it seems the music industry of today doesn't. God bless Tori, and all those who've kept it real. <3

  • i know what you mean, its sad to think that music peaked in the 90's

  • she's brilliant.

  • still the best

  • it´s about freedom.

  • Awesome!

  • This song moves me bigtime.

  • so crazy

    But I like it .

  • I saw this video once on MTV several years ago, but didnt know who it was or the name of the song...been looking for it ever since...and now ive found it. Thanks Heimbeck

  • yea me 2 i use to call it the rat song me n my hommieee

  • Best.song.ever...

    the lyrics are amazing-AMAZING!!

  • LOVE THIS FUCKIN SONG, YESS..SHE RaWx!

  • o.O

Crazy-ass video... I guess she likes rats...

But damn, that bassline is just too cool and she sings sorta basass.

  • In India, there is actually a temple for rats. Notice the Indian women feeding the rats at the beginning of the video? Yeah, that's how it is. Amos has said this song is about the "patriarchal Christian god"--in her opinion, the worst god ever. I guess in the video she's trying to show what is "disgusting" is a part of the sacred too. She's refuting God--the Christian one, anyway.

  • i never understand videos...

  • I remember the first time I heard this song. Memorys

  • A Tori é um génio, quando for grande quero ser como ela :) * * *

  • Great song but just way too many rats for me to watch! :)

  • Heard this on the radio the other day and it just clicked. Amazing.

  • This is the only video of hers I've REALLY liked. Great song as well!

  • This is by far the greatest Tori song ever! I love it...and I will never get enough of it!

  • nice song

    the lyrics are cool

  • Thank You.. Love This Song.

    Peace

  • I don't see those type of videos nowadays--except on MTV2 and "Beavis and Butthead" reruns.

  • you know i've always listened to her songs, but never really seen her videos........she is like unbelievably pretty.....such a cute smile. ....hope they gave those rats a bath before they shot the video though :)

  • tori shaving her legs is the sexiest thing i've ever seen.

  • That's the sexiest thing you've ever seen? Now I just feel sorry for you.

  • The music + singing in this song is really amazing. Gives me chills every time she does the "wind blow" verse.

  • I would curious to know what this video is symbolic of. I'm a big Tori Amos fan, however also Jewish, and I see a lot of Jewish religious imagery in this video. However, I know it can be hard to decipher Tori's meaning:)Would anyone like to give me any ideas?

  • mhm, it's all about religious practices, the rats are some kind of Hinduism imagery... if you take the time to look through the comments I think one explains the different types of religious imagery.
