  • best indoor bonsai?

  • that is a really great looking bonsai, good job!!

  • what type of bonsai is that and iloke your tree

  • and I Always thought Bonsai was a tiny tree from birth xD

  • I like it, except for the really long part sticking out, it just doesnt fit

  • But..... will it blend?

  • how calls your shrub species???

  • NIce music! Who plays it?

  • nice

  • Lets get an update on it if it isnt dead :)

  • ok

  • bravo

  • A great video...I like watch this season.

  • inbetweeners =D

  • I notice the type of soil he used is wrong.Do not use regular potting soil.

  • And the tree just live 30 days. R.I.P. You stress the tree extremely that way.

  • @aknames how is this much different from this /watch?v=0VkukuEK5JQ&feature=related

  • @maksenDK

Difference is that this video was uploaded a year before the one you link

  • @ESAMMEX huh? so? did you see what i was commenting?

  • generally bonsai takes at least 5 years before its even ready to trim. if it is done properly. this is a quick an easy way to get a decoration.... chances are this bush went into shock. when you do bonsai it is about manipulation of the tree, as in an art form. this could be considered 'manipulation' but this is more brute and direct... the process is the whole beauty in it really

  • pflanzenlicht24.de

hier gibts die samen und bücher zum bonsai und vieles mehr

  • is this tree still alive? im new to all this, so canu giv me like the most important seteps i need to do?

  • wow what song is that? anyway nice video

  • This is an extremely poor example of a Bonsai. Everything is wrong here from container size to growing medium! Do not use this video as a tool to create your own bonsai. This was a Shrub hacked up and jammed into a pot. Far from what takes place to manipulate a true miniture tree.

  • you made the an ugly bonsai tree. why did you leave that huge branch.

  • Comment removed

  • How well, will a juniper like yours do indoors? I would like to keep it in my bedroom but it won't get much (if any) natural light (my windows are frosted). How often will i need to water and trim it? how much light do they really need?

PS. I found this video so simple I started laughing and couldn't stop. I thought Bonsai were a special plant and not just a Juniper. thanks a lot :D

  • How well, will a juniper like yours do indoors? I would like to keep it in my bedroom but it won't get much (if any) natural light (my windows are frosted). How often will i need to water and trim it? how much light do they really need?

  • @dakoata121212 i tryed this. FAIL never keep any bonsai inside. juniper bonsais need lots of light and water

  • Awesome job! i am growing some cuttings that i hope to turn into bonsai some time!

  • Thanks Spacepainter, i went out and did the same thing but with a 25 gallon juniper, my next project will be a 5 gallon Mugo Pine

  • You Bloody GENIUS :D !!

  • beutifil tree

  • Nice form without any wiring ... good specimen. Great vid. THX!

  • Cool idea! I have always wanted one but never had the money to buy one! Thanx! Peace and love!

  • hey spacepainter did you know if you trimed your shrub pre bonsai about once a week to about once two week it will stay small

  • How's it looking now?

  • Hello, i've made my first bonsai, and i'm searching for experienced people who can give me tips about my juniper bonsai, there's a video of it on my channel. Please watch and comment. Thanks!

  • Hey spacepainter, can you check my channel and give some comments on my video of my home-made bonsai. i'm beginner and want some tips if possible, thanks!

  • This dude is great at making the bane of all real bonsai enthusiasts, MALLSAI. It is NOT real bonsai unfortunately. This video makes me sad. I hate seeing a tree that has real potential mutilated by those who don't have a clue what they are doing.

  • @SanRafaelSwell Agreed. you can do stuff like that to achieve bonsai but that thing is probably going to die very soon

  • Kinda nice

  • if you think that's how a bonsai shoul look like, you are blind.

  • it looks like a ninja bunny came in the middle of the night and ate most of it -_-

  • doesnt even look like a bonsai, more like a shrub in a bonsai pot

  • your head looks like a dead bunny in a bonsai pot....

  • Awesome vid no wire crap and things thanks

  • Wiring is a very time tested method for bonsai training and is some what of an advanced method for training. This dude is making what is known as mallsai. It isn't real bonsai as it doesn't actually use the same methods or aesthetic rules. This isn't real bonsai.

  • now you can write some kanjis and drink green tea and your japkitsch is perfect

  • how do you keep it from growing into a fully sized tree?

do you just prune it once in a while?

  • Pruning the roots is the most important thing.

  • yes you do prune it every spring when the tree wants to grow the other way is to use pots and to prune its roots every time you transplant it ive been doing it for 6 years still a beginner but i got my basics lol

  • ok?

  • Oh my god that looks like shit

  • i love ur bonsai very nice

  • what music is playing its very chill

  • lol sry I didn´t see the beginning lol now I know :)

  • Hi, I was wondering what kind of shrub is that?

  • says juniper mound

  • look my other comment. i apologized for it already

  • anyone knows a video how to trim them right ? I remember it was important to cut at the right angle

  • ah okkie

  • whats the name of the music playing in the background ?

  • you can also make a 'better' bonsai by:

    pruning the roots

intricately wrapping the tree with wire

    and constant trimming...

slightly better result but i really like this!

  • great video.

the key to doing any bonsai is to cut the main tap-root off. just soak the root system in water until all the dirt falls away. it wont be hard to find the main tap-root then. now that the root system has been compromised, prunning is all that is left to do.

  • wow good job i like it

  • Magnificent!!! So impressive!!! Bravo!

  • I'm kind of interested in bonsai, but I dont know how can control a tree's growth size.

How can you make a tree that typically grows to like 50 feet, grow only 1 foot? Is it a science about altering light and fertilzer cycles?

  • when you limit the size of the roots by putting it in a small pot it limits the size. scientifically a root system can only support physically and nutritionally a tree of a certain size thus the reason they are smaller. but over time even bonsai get bigger look at some of the examples that are over 100 years old they are 4 feet in some cases if allowed to be in a little larger pot.

  • why cant everyone just read your comment and be done with this...

  • Cutting the roots, by itself, does not limit the tree's size. It is a combination of successive root pruning and branch pruning that results in a surface of young foliage over increasingly older and thicker branches and trunk that creates the illusion of a large, old tree in a small container.

  • you are indeed correct i just ran out of characters and didnt feel like continuing lol thanks for finishing my thoughts

  • it is partly to do with that but i always think of it as forcing the tree to grow in a small area by giving it a small pot and cutting off large bits you dont want.

  • This technique is good to practice and create something original , and doesnt matter too much if you make a mistake .

Many bonsai are in fact shrubs and any plant can be made into bonsai , they dont have to be trees.

Plus bonsai is an ongoing and ongrowing artform and newly made bonsai take time and maybe years after first pruning to look there best .

  • bonsai is whatever you want it to be

and if the knowitalls knew anything then thay would know that bonsai is 80% smoke and mirrors

thats not something ive made up

ive heard that from the masters themselfs

so go put your head in a pot and get rooted

  • are you serious? what do you mean smoke and mirrors, cuz ive always wanted to try bonsai

  • the title of this video should read "fake" somewhere in there. because in truth, bonsai's are made from real tree's not shrubs, and are "trained" to grow the way they do.

still a respectful video for anyone who can't afford to buy one or too lazy to grow their own.

  • often times in china and japan shrubs are used as bonsai, they plant a plant in a field and let it grow for 10 or more years. even the masters dont always start with saplings or from seed. read more and find out more. this is not if they do the same thing in the areas where bonsai originated from.

  • You are all dipshits. A bonsai is a tree growing in a pot. This one is lame and ugly, but for 5 bucks he's got a bonsai. Talk to him in 50 years, maybe it turns into a beautiful tree. To each his own.

  • bonsai is a technique right? not a species...

so im pretty sure you can make a bonsai out of any shrub or young tree. as long as the roots and everything are kept trimmed....

    it stays small

  • @gustavo2wire yeah its a technique but you must have the correct tree to bonsai. some of the best trees are ficus, juniper, maple, Japanese maple, oak, yew and olive tree.

  • that is some uglay ass tree lol

  • eso no es un bonsai

  • bullshit

  • ummm, this is not a Bonsai...I am Japanese and to protect our culture let me say one thing, How to make Bonsai isn't that easy and is something you can not film within 2 min video. If you make a real Bonsai, your video should be 3 years long.

  • he's just getting the look right

cause everyone knows that only age will do the rest

  • 3 years? Forget it. I have a Japanese Black Pine bonsai I've been working on for 15. This video is better for beginners than buying a little "bonsai" juniper from a "big box" store because it involves them in the act of creation, gives them something that is likely to live if cared for properly and encourages them to learn more -- like proper branch placement, and putting junipers in unglazed pots, and saving the blue pots for maple trees and azaleas.

  • I agree... a true bonsai artist would have a conniption over this video.

  • You have to take into consideration the "I want it now" mentality of the typical American consumer but I do understand why you would be disgruntled with the end result of this video.

Converting Juniper bushes into "bonsai" is for noobs that can't afford a real tree like the Japanese Red Maple to name just one of my favorites.

Some of my trees are over 7 years old but I do not call them Bonsai as that would be an insult to the art. They are just cool plants that I don't F with to often.

  • hey, you seem to know about this theme,

i was wondering, can someone make a bnsai tree out of a kapok (i love this tree, i planted one in my backyard cause it looks really powerfu and gives beutiful flowers, and its also legendary here in mexico).

i dont know to much about bonsais, my first intent, gave me a beutiful bush of laulel, but thats all, can you help me??

ps: anser me as soon as posible

  • bonsai is an artform. therefore you can make any tree/shrub into a bonsai

  • sweet... nice vid

  • this is one ugly bonsie tree .lol. did i spell that rite?

  • Well done, great video. it will grow a stunner! Whats the name of this song its lovely!

  • that is not a bonsai tree.

  • yeah it is..

  • Most of ya all need to take some deep breaths. Except you...you are fine.....no perfect.

  • Ooh, thank you for you're reply dipstick, I was getting lonely. I was hoping you would reply, and say something that would tickle my balls, thanks for the tickle. If I need my ball scratched I'll ask you. You are amusing me in the most remedial way. Till next time chump. Haa haaaa!!!

  • hey vonperro, if you are such a pro, why are you looking up videos titled "how to make a bonsai tree"? go back you looking up "how to be a complete dick". you're getting good at it.

  • Hey "eatspaste" You obviously have been eating paste, because from the looks of it you are as ignorant as pro dipstick bonsai guy here. I really don't have to prove anything to any one. Like I said before, I find this ill informing video amusing and tasteful, to a redneck or even someone ghetto, like yourself and your pro dipstick bonsai friend here. There, I guess I have gotten better at being a "D***head". I look forward to your next pitiless with out foundation reply.

  • if your such a pro and u need to look up vids on how to make them the lets see what uv got make a vid of ur so called perfict bonsai tree oh and u are a very big dick head

  • lets see the tree now

  • The video did not inform of other thing that you have to worry about, like soil types and when it is the best time to transplant a tree or a bush. It is given very basic information. You can not take a bush (juniper) and put it in a pot and expect it to live. This bush will most likely die in a few months.

  • @n2m4k4 you dont tranceplant the tree or shrub enses you dont trim it every two weeks

  • @n2m4k4 not true i did this and mines still living

  • then tel me what is the care beside watering?

  • After watching this, "How to make a bonsai" video, I have to say that you really don't know what you are doing. I feel that I can say this on account that I have been studying bonsai for a few years now and, I do find you video very amusing. Educate your self before you post ignorance.

  • lol you seriously acted like a douchbag, the poster never said their pros or even knew what they were doing, its just what they did, get over your self you fucking mini tree elitist cumwad

  • " lol you seriously acted like a douchbag, the poster never said their pros or even knew what they were doing, its just what they did, get over your self you fucking mini tree elitist cumwad "

    Says one troll to another.

The title of this post is in fact, quite ignorant indeed.

The title should be edited to read, " How to plant a small shrub. If this plant was the same size at 30 years old, then yes, it would then be a real bonsai. Bonsai is the art itself, not the plant.

  • and you too act like a dick, i never said anything about how bad or good their bonsai tree will be, i just pointed out the author never said their pros at what their doing, shut the fuck up call me a troll, look at your post it had nothing to do with you, so shut the fuck up, fucking douch bag go fuck a mini tree and get a splinter.

  • Your a dick. nuf said

  • its so weird, ive been subscribed to you for a few years because i love your paintings. i was randomly struck with curiosity over how bonsai trees are made and typed it in youtube. i didnt realize this was your video until the end. small world, or youtube i should say

  • and i payed 60 buck for mine......

  • Once set, must the roots be trimmed every so often to keep tree from getting too large?

  • Yes. 1-2 years for young trees (like in the video) and 3-5 for mature trees. The root pruning encourages more growth... which in turn provides more branches and leaves to work with.

  • it looks nice, but it isnt a real bonsai tree ,

it will grow to full size :/

  • what do you define real bonsai. the essential concept is to prune the crowns or root ball to dwarf the tree.. that tree will remain bonsai with he proper care...

  • nice but i add water every day or every week ?

  • Every day.

  • you should use non-organic soil. as the potting soil it is in will clot and cause the roots to rot and kill your tree over time. you want free draining soil.

  • I remember 5 months ago, I was arguing with another commentor. Good times.

  • I remember 5 months ago you posted some uninformed bullshit and you were called out on it. I can't decide if your a mouthy prick or just trolling for attention. Either way you need to shut the hell up and think about getting yourself sterilized.

  • lolz, you didnt explain it properly but it was a good try, u may have wanted to start with a port jackson fig tree.

  • Spacepainter, can you please update your video to see how the health of your juniper pre bonsai is getting on, just to show people that it's still a live and well, if it was not for people like spacepainter who take the time to make these videos for our enjoyment, alot of you would never have a clue how it is possible to make a pre bonsai out a garden centre shrub. Don't criticise people trying to show an art that has been kept very secret for many years, where else would you learn this for free

  • the tree is doing great and looks much different now.

  • can u make a more current video of how it is doing? is this a challenge to make? how long did it take you to do this?

  • @spacepainter Then make a video so we can see it. ^^,

  • littlebit good, but need more practice on how to prone ur bonsai material... need more wiring..

  • Très beau félicitations et merci

  • I was just wondering, how is this not a real Bonzi tree? Is it not real because it wasn't grown from a seed by the guy? I mean it's a juniper tree that's little and it's being made to look like a little tree. So it's a bonzi tree right?

  • first of all its not Bonzai its Bonsai and its not i believe he says it's not a "real" Bonsai since Bonsai is a name that really reserved for plants that have been trained for a number of years as apposed to this one which was made in 1/2 an hour. This tree is what you would call Pre-Bonsai.

  • Oh, sorry Mr. Miyagi, BONSAI!!!! I bet if he hadn't shown you how he made it and showed you the end product you would think it was a real BONSAI.

  • Yeah true ...

  • I don't know why your using that tone with me I just answered your question. Your acting like this guy is your boyfriend or something. Moreover It's not that hard to tell if a shrub has been pruned to look like a bonsai or if a tree has been in training for several years. With that said there is nothing wrong with this guy is doing and it's a legit start to making a bonsai but the reason people are saying it's not "real" is because it still needs training.

  • Oh, now you decided to say something, when someone else agrees with me. All I did was ask some simple questions. "Your acting like this guy is your boyfriend or something", oh how witty..... You just focus on getting some pussy and don't worry about my tone, which you can hear over the net, right? Maybe if you focused the amount of energy you waste on little trees on pussy then you could of got laid by now. Don't drop all this knowledge on little trees then try and act tough, Green thumb Faggot.

  • Looks like I stuck a chord! If you want to superimpose your own sexual reality onto others that's your problem but I'm not a "faggot", and if i was there wouldn't be anything wrong with that. I'm sure it's hard for you to get laid because you talk about it like it takes so much energy, but for us normally functioning members of society it's really not a big deal.

  • Even though it's not "real" It looks great! :D

  • i agree!

  • although your right zzzxppix you don't have to be rude about it. :C

  • one thing that concerns me about this vid ... the soil ,, you dont use potting soil with a bonsai ... potting soil holds too much water and will rot the roots ... i also wonder if that juniper in the vid is still alive ??? id bet its dead ... its too bad ,, people now days just dont take the time to know what they are doing ... if you want to really have a bonsai tree ,, please read a book or two then join a club .. its the olny way to really understand what your doing and why ...

  • I just got one for x-mas, I am terrified that I'm going to kill it, how often should it be watered? Do I still have to prune it, cuz when I got it it is already a bonsai Juniper tree?

  • thats absolute correct, dude! thumbs up!

  • that's exactly what i thought i'm sure that tree didn't last very long!

  • lol, like a fake little tree, no wait, it is

    hahahah

    cool

  • NIce video, but thats not a bonsai.

Biasa199, you need to do a little more reading before spreading your "knowledge."

  • thanks lol this is awesome

  • i want to group some bonsai trees together like i want to make a mini-forest, so how can i do that? can i use this method here but just get smaller plants?

  • You just have to select the trees you'll use, but choose the SAME trees, because if you choose different species, later on one will domain the others. Then you just have to plce them in a big pot and ttry to vary in the size and shape of the trees, finally you can hold them to the pot with some wire. Add some moss and it's finished.

  • Yes it is def easier to grow all the same trees but with proper lighting and water you can grow different ones. If you need anymore help iexploreracoons, just contact me.

  • It's easy to make a bopnsai forest, just don't use this method. He didn't create a bonsai. He just pruned a junpier down and stuck it in a bonsai pot. For a forest use an odd number of thin straight trees or older seedlings. They should be trained correctly and they need to be added to the pot in a certain order. Too long to mention here. But Google "Bonsai forest" and you may get good directions. HTH

  • And for those who say you train a bonsai. It is impossible to train a plant tree etc.

It will grow naturally around its restrictions and will react to normal problems a tree will face. But yes you can direct its growth to certain places but no it is not training the bonsai.

  • That's not really true. If you just wired a bonsai it would eventually bend the wiring out the continue to grow. But training a bonsai is HARDY just wiring. You wire it, you trim the roots so it can't grow at such a rapid rate, and you cut/pinch back new growth. It is a constantly evolving art and an ABSOLUTE failure if you wanna go buy one and just throw it out on the patio.

  • Biasa199 you are wrong.

I myself coming from japanese heritage and my family and extended family creating Bonsai know that "bonsai" is not a plant species. a bonsai can be grown from an ordinary plants seed. As my father in his childhood grew a Japanese maple into a bonsai from pruning roots (rarely as u need to give it time to revive) and foliage/branches. It is now about 43-46 years old and blosseming.

  • how much can i get a tree loike the one at the beggening of the video???

  • the real question is- low long do these makeshift bonsai trees last?

  • Depends how good you are at looking after them. There's no reason why they couldn't last your lifetime in the right conditions. Of course, beginners are not very consistant with watering and repotting and having the right amount of sunlight therefore the typeical lifetime might be from days to months. I have some trees already 30 years.

  • hahahahaha....

  • biasa199, GROW UP! dont be so stupid

  • fuck you, biasa199, go suck some dick, while reading your "books"

  • "You can not just train any tree or shrub to become a bonsai "

Of course not. they come from the bonsai fairy.

  • Ok now, for the record, bonsai is an ARTFORM. not a species, it's a style of art. Here is a list of trees commonly used

    jade tree

    juniper (all different species)

pines (black pine, JWP, radiata etc.)

    Maples (japanese, trident, etc.)

And if that's not convincing enough, i'll show you some bonsai i have in training --_--". Biasa. please go back to kindergarten before criticising others.

  • I know I spelled " mean" wrong.

  • I already tried doing this. My Shrub Died in less than a week. and I have seven real bonsai trees at home

  • lol

  • that's actually not bad for a garden shrub which you pick up cheaply from a garden depo.

To be quite frank, biasa you have no clue what you are saying. To be quite honest, you can take a 50 year old tree and make it in to a bonsai if you really want to. It'll just take ages to train and root prune. Grass has been known to be used to make what we call accent plants, not bonsai itself.

if you honestly doubt whether you can make a 50 year old tree into a bonsai, you obviously have no patience.

  • You also said quote "I'll pick a random tree then and do it myself and prove you wrong."

You mean I can take a fifty year old tree from my backyard uproot it and put it in a small pot? That doesn't make sense I know. But that's what you are saying.

  • Seriously, google "how to bonsai tree" and read the first five sites that you find...not a very hard process, obviously all these people who are showing you how ignorant you are did it...so save us the aggravation of arguing with you and read up...and by the way the whole idea of bonsai trees is actually growing them to the desired shape/size, not going and picking out a huge tree and trying to make it tiny...

  • You really should read a book. You meen I can make grass a bonsai? It came out of your own mouth. And I quote "Any plant can be a bonsai." You said that about a week ago.

So go read books about bonsai before you post comments on youtube.

  • Yes, you can make grass into bonsai - it's typically used as an accent plant at shows. You can make weeds into bonsai (e.g. Dandelion) and you can even make "weed" into bonsai.

  • how would i go about making a dandelion into a bonsai?

  • Why is everyone so uptight?

Serisously, ultimately what it boils down to is that we're still talking about a TREE.

  • I own a bonsai. And this my friend is pathetic. You can make your so called "bonsai" and buy one for 5 dollars

give it care that a real bonsai would need.

Or you can buy a bonsai online for about $100

and will last a lifetime. Of course it will involve much more care than a shrub but it will all be worthwhile in a few years. so which one will YOU pick? A pretend "bonsai" or a real Bonsai?

  • Your wrong. Any plant can be a bonsai. Bonsai is an art form for keeping a plant. Once his plant becomes root bound it will grow slowly. Then he can just trim back the roots, and keep it stunted. Any plant can be a bonsai.. I have made several cuttings into bonsai.

  • not really. I believe YOU are wrong. not just any plant can be a bonsai. eventually it will die. bonsai are a kind of plant species. don't just cut a juniper up and turn it into a bonsai. Nothing can still replace the real thing.

  • Ok... I'll pick a random tree then and do it myself and prove you wrong. You don't know what your talking about.

Bonsai is a style of growing. If you knew anything about bonsai then you would know this. They keep them in small pots so they become rootbound. That slows the growth and keeps them small. They can still mature during that period but the growth will be much slower. You still need to take them out and trim back the roots to give it more room to grow but not enough to grow normally.

  • If bonsai is a plant species, then how do you explain the fact that they have common tree species used as bonsai? Such as...

    Juniper

    Brazilian Rain Forest

    White Pine

    Cherry Trees

    Apple Trees

    Black Olive

    ect ect.

Please learn what your talking about before you criticize someone who is trying to help people. Like I've told you twice before... bonsai is a style of growing NOT a species of plant.

If you would like to learn about bonsai, I can recommend some material for you to read.

  • I've read several books about bonsai they ARE a plant species. The list of bonsai trees are just types of bonsai species. Why don't you read a book? it will say( the book I borrowed told me about natural bonsai in japan near the end of a cliff. Before you post a comment, think about what you are saying. Please!!!

  • this is for biasa199 fool fool

Bonsai are not a plant species they are most Tree types. Learn the art of Bonsai NOT from books Junipers make GREAT Bonsai trained correctley over time NOT instant
