Soviet Union shouldve remained intact as a democratic country. They couldve had a government model similar to US, 15 Republics with equal representation in the Senate and population based representation in the house or representatives. Each state could've followed a common constituation based on human rights, freedom of speech, equality and civil rights. Each individual republic couldve shaped its own constitution and government from there. Too bad people didnt get what Gorbachev tried to do.

As an ex-Soviet, I find it an interesting theory. There may be some truth in it, but it’s only part of a bigger picture. No one, even the KGB could control how events might develop. Otherwise they wouldn’t have lost the 14 non-Russian republics. And what Putin represents, is not communism, but rather a kinder, gentler fascism “with a human face.”

But the top tiers in the government did want to reform the system. Gorby was simply one of them. That’s what Perestroika was all about, duh (da).

As for why the Kremlin let go of the non-Russian republics, there's multiple reasons such as expense, to limit targets for the coming nuclear war and because the nations could be underhandedly controlled anyways. Moscow lost control of Poland and that's why the Polish political and military high command was assassinated in April with the Smolensk crash of the nation's effective 'Air Force One'. The power struggle in Russia has to do with money and power and NOT with communism (or any other ism for that matter). It was a very corrupt state during the cold war, and still is. The problem with communism is the same as capitalism: It's run by people. So our cages are nicer than 90's Russia, but they are still cages.

Governments are not constructed with the idea of constraining the evils of greed, because the same individuals driven by greed and power that create governments in the first place.

Capitalist systems have NO constraint on the amount of wealth and power one individual can accumulate, THEREFORE, there is absolutely no limit to corruption and evil.

Next the state uses central planning. As worker councils gain more strength the state puts more managing on them. After this continues the state just becomes obsolete and dissolves.
