@Lobonsky thanks for showing your complete inability to engage with any of the actual issues here. Obviously it is easier for you to shoot down straw men than it is to justify your support for the indefinite imprisonment of people who've committed no crimes.
I look forward to your future insightful comments.
@Strummerkid And what is your opinion on visa holders who think they can squeeze a few bucks out of this country....not pay tax and jump up on a roof and cry when busted........suppose you believe in Multiculture society....one big happy family!
@Lobonsky they show more determination to live in Australia than many an Australian. I suppose you meant "multicultural society"? Big words, big ideas. Don't over exert yourself chap.
@Strummerkid Starting to take a shine to you for all it is, so don't go telling me your a bean and rice eating vegan with a Mozart streak who who breaks the picture up with a Clash or a Nirvana CD.....You will break my heart!
@Strummerkid That was yesterday, all my troubles seem so far......aaahhhh fuck that.....Hope your no vegan Mozart freak who rips out the Nickle Back or Clash cd to liven up the party.....I hear those visa overstayers bailed out of their roof top circus!
@Lobonsky Not just a bitch. Yeah, I'd say the reality that the Australian system has created for the asylum seekers is a little nastier than bitchy...
@Lobonsky Not just a bitch. Yeah, I'd say the reality that the Australian system has created for the asylum seekers is a little nastier than bitchy...
I'm not going to sit here calling for an end to Mandatory detention and to close down the centres but anyone can see that there are no winners in the current situation...
This is absolutely incredible, and exactly the sort of thing that should be done. People display nothing but Hubris if they genuinely believe that they are "better" than foreigners. Do people honestly expect these people to sit through 5 years of beurocracy while there is a war going on outside their front lawn? They're done nothing wrong. Stop treating them like animals.
Bullshit. What happened was a major part of that illegal centre being closed within a year. You're a narrowminded fool and your comments aren't even worth responding to - they just show how narrow minded you are.
thanks for posting, i was involved in the refugee campaign and i haven't seen this for years, i get goosebumps still seeing the courage of the refugees.
The best part of this is seeing the wussy activists getting pushed around, This did nothing for the asylym cause, just further infuriated the public and made all the protestors look like a bunch of wankers (which they are)If you were here Strummerkid you should be ashamed of yourself, is this your only claim to fame?? running over to a fence and shouting we love you welcome, do some real good in your life and maybe advocate for homeless Australian families you might get more respect.
Firstly i'd like to let you know that respect from you matters nothing to me.
I was not at this action, it is not a claim to fame for anyone, and i wish i had been there. There is no way i would feel ashamed of myself for advocating an end to mendatory detention of non-criminals, and taking direct action toward such ends.
What do you do for Homeless Australians? i would love to help out, but i dont feel the need to be limited to one single cause. Do you?
Mothers, Husbands, Brother, Sisters, Children. Most of whom are fleeing Wars that we've inflicted upon them, or dictatorial regimes such as China and so forth.
You just seemed to be abit aggressive in your second comment, i thought there may be another reason for your questions other than just curiosity. That and knowledge of your stance on immigration.
Bro if you had any idea how useless and ignorant you were, you would fuck off.
You make the assumption that whatever happens is right. Well why do Refugee's need to be kept in high security prisons, at a high cost to you and I for "this system" to work.
they need to be kept there so they dont ruin our country like they have there own. i know from first hand experience these people were and are looked after better than some of our own people.and you talk about the cost to keep em there if they didnt burn smash and wreck everything that they are givin the cost wouldnt be so much.80%of them deserve everything they get they are rude arrogant and should stay in there own shitty country
Yeah okay, so we economically exploit their populations and bomb their cities and then complain about them ruining our country? Are you kidding me?
Also, we have given them nothing. We have taken away their basic liberty, their right to life. You only get one life starry, and if i was being forced to spend it in a cage in the dessert i would burn the cage too.
Where did you get this 80% number, survey, census or your arse?
When you go drive all that way to a desert detention centre, why not visit people? Build relationships with them. Provide them with ongoing support while they are experiencing this awful time of imprisonment? There are better ways to take action and make your voice heard - ways which don't discredit the entire refugee advocacy movement.
Another big problem is the way in which the "protest mentality" alienates 98% of Australian society. This kind of inflammatory, reactionary and aggressive action really does the refugee cause no favours at all.
Mercifully most of them are out now, but I just want to point out that the "freedom" they experienced after escaping Woomera that day was no kind of freedom at all. Many of them have been subject to criminal sanctions and have had their already traumatised lives further disrupted by the events of Easter 2002.
Thanks for posting all this footage, it's very interesting to watch. I just have a few comments. Over my more than 5 years of weekly visits to detainees, I have come across many of these guys who were "freed" at the Woomera 2002 protests. Many of them were found, or gave themselves in, and were inevitably put back into detention, subjected to more of the horror of the mandatory detention system, and had to sit inside rotting for many more months.
Tub up....comb your hair and drag the head out of your ass.....have another bong and fuck off to your little land of wonder.......reality is a bitch!

who exactly are the detainees?

Mothers, Husbands, Brother, Sisters, Children. Most of whom are fleeing Wars that we've inflicted upon them, or dictatorial regimes such as China and so forth.
Strummerkid 4 years ago
you didn't answer my question with a strait forward answer. Lets try this again. Where are these detainees from?
AmnestyEqualAnarchy 4 years ago
Your question was "who exactly are the detainees?" and i answered that you idiot.
As for where they are from, they come to Australia from different places including China, Iraq, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Papua New Guinnea and so on.
Why do you wish to know?
Strummerkid 4 years ago
cause I watched the video and read the comments and it sparked my interest. Why else?

I don't like being jerked around. I like strait forward answers and not answers that skirt around an issue and are slanted.

I answered your question idiot, look again at the question. Jesus.

your right and that is why i re framed the question in my response. Where are these detainees from?
AmnestyEqualAnarchy 4 years ago
why does it matter where they're from? they're from planet fucking earth just like you and me and him and her, now shut up and fight.
