  • I think davis is the richest ginger in the world.

  • The Ted Low commentary at 2:59 was the best: "John Spencer has terrific cue power; see this cue ball come back."

  • great soundtrack on this

  • R.I.P John Spencer and Alex Higgins

  • So is David Vine

  • @AndrewTiffin So are Bill Werbeniuk and Eddie Charlton R.I.P

  • probably drowned the little bugger haha

  • shit hendry is the image of that kid out off the six sence!!!

  • I think it was John Virgo who once said "For The People watching in Black and White, The Blue Ball is the one next to the Yellow Ball" Greatest Line Ever

  • @alexnzx

    it was Ted Lowe

  • @Anonomousxxx virgo said it too

  • so they both said the same line?

  • @Anonomousxxx I don't know you are probably right but at a match I went to a year or two ago, Dennis Taylor said Virgo said it.You might be right though

  • Im not saying you are not right may be they really both said the same line

  • @alexnzx IT WAS TED LOWE

  • can tell this broadcast is fairly old because davis is still ginger, grey as a mule now.

  • stephen hendry hasnt changed at all since he was a kid lol

  • @Randal2k1 yeah he looked like a kid with adults head)))

  • Snooker was bigger then but it was not in the league of football and it never has been.

Even though I like snooker more.

  • @DLPBurke Actually in the 1980's Snooker Was Far bigger than Football and Football wasn't even the second biggest sport, Darts was. There was too many riots in Soccer back then and nobody wanted to watch it or go to soccer matches

  • He'd just play safety shots all day until they hung themselves!! Ray reardon- what a player!!

  • Snooker at its best in the 80s!

Real characters then. Today they all robots.

  • RIP snooker ref John Street.

  • RIP David Vine

  • This is one of the greatest thing ive ever seen on youtube!!

i like snooker and my favourite player is Steve "interesting" Davis!!

    Brillant work!!

Shame i missed this on the telly when it was on the beeb because ill like a copy of this!

  • First shown 28 April 2002.

  • Great programme,I love it.

  • When was this first broadcast?

  • can someone upload videos when ray reardon was in his prime?

  • When was this on the telly? what a great collection of Snooker vids a treat for any snooker fan.

    Thanks for Uploading.

  • has anyone mentioned anything about the type of spectacles that was showed? are those specially for billiards back then?

  • I always wondered whether snooker pros smoke!?!

i mean u get shaky hands! guess todays pros dont do this anymore do they?? can anyone name smoking pros ??

  • Thanks so much for posting this, fucking awesome!

  • thank you for this great video :)

also, can anyone tell me, whats that song in the very beginning?

    thanks in advance

  • I don't see how you can say Ronnie O'Sullivan couldn't handle a tactical game he's a fantastic safety player, and also probably the most naturally talented player since Alex Higgins so how he can be blamed for snookers downfall I have no idea. As for Selby I agree he may be agressive and I can't stand him as a personality but he's a great player to watch. I'd rather see play like that than the likes of fucking Peter Ebdon.

  • Brilliant and a lovely surprise to see Eric Morecambe who later did a great snooker spoof sketch with Steve Davis in their 1981 Xmas Show.

  • wish i was alive to see the golden age for my self. but you can thank no one but ronnie o sullivan for the downfall of english snooker. Talk to me if you need and explanation

  • ur an idiot, how can you blame people like ronnie o sullivan? its the people that run the game that have destroyed it, not the players. so get your facts right you fool!

  • If you had eyes you would see that people have become far too aggressive, hence the likes of Selby and o sullivan can win, if either of them faced a tactical game they couldnt handle it you dick, you just like people who kiss the crowds ass

  • I you say O'Sullivan(the tactical mastergenius Reardon taught him for heavens sake) and Selby can't play tactical games, you are the blind one my friend.

  • Selby can't win tactical frames, and Ronnie can not play safety he doesnt have the patience fact

  • Selby is the master at winning tactical frames, didn't you see him play at the Crucible last year? And how is O'Sullivan not capable of playing safety, he doesn't even need patience to play it...

  • Selby only ever wins when people give him games, look at when he played Lee he made a highest break of like 40, and Selby still didnt win convincingly. He just kept scraping through final frame deciders

  • In that final he equalled the highest break in the last frame... And didn't he win those final frame deciders every time when other players couldn't succeed in doing that?

  • As any pro says final frames can go either way and theres alot of luck involved, had Stephen hendry not left a red over the pocket in the earlier rounds giving him the frame he wouldnt have even been in the final. Its alot easier to make high breaks when you know youve won the match that means nothing

  • I don't agree his play doesn't have anything to do with winning those final frames if he does it time after time. Equalling the high break shows he's focused to me.

  • I'm saying he wouldn't ever beat any of the top 10 from the 80s, he is proof of how bad modern snooker is becoming

  • It's 2008.

  • well done, re read my comment. My point is that he could never win a tournament 20 yrs ago

  • If you would have understood my comment you would see I meant to say that doesn't matter because they are playing today. I'm going to stop commenting now because there's no getting through to you.

  • if u had any brains and u'd saw what ronnie did in the latest 888 WC 2008 against hendry u'd would never se shit like ronnie cant play safety!

id say its idiots who think the same like u who are responsible 4 the downfall of snooker!

  • he never used to you dick

  • so funny and interesting back then

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaanks !!!!!!!!!

  • This is great. Thanks for posting. I'm gonna watch all of them.

  • Thank you so much for posting, very appreciated!

  • Stephen Hendry, didn't smile then (06:10) and dosen't smile now! :)

    Lol!

  • That is when Snooker was great...very popular, great characters.

And now, you have got to say that the players are boring. I'm probably obsessed with Snooker but comparing it to the 1980s, its boring.

  • Yeh,great. I agree with Seanjose, except for the bit about easier pockets nowadays which is wrong(they're tighter, I believe).

It was the characters who made the difference, and the fact the game was new to telly.

Now it's mainstream; mass-produced. Then it was home-grown. These guys came out of dark corners, mis-fits, wide-boys and old geezers.

Darts has always been a pub game so I would argue it has retained it's characters. Snooker went from back-alley to highstreet and lost something.

  • when snooker was king! love those 70s and 80s. great characters and difficult tables. todays snooker is a bit of a yawn with easier tables (cloths/pockets) and dull players. still, we have Ronnie...

  • How are we doing Alex nice upload and keep up the good work on 606. Your articles are always a pleasure to read.

    igotajoke4u

  • "If I'd known then what I know now I'd have probably drowned the little bugger."

    Fucking BRILLIANT!

  • yes that was funny i love the old clips and i loved pot black!!!

  • was an hour long programme about Alex Higgins on the beeb, was posted here month or so ago, please post again if anyone has it.Includes all the others take on Higgins plus all the clips of his highs and lows.

  • what happened to David Vine, consumate professional in the presenting game, the standard by which all the other amatuers fall im afraid, guesss the game just u=isnt what it used to be, on every level, shame really, was good entertainment back then!!!

  • Hendry so young OMG

  • This is one of the greatest thing ive ever seen on youtube!!

i like snooker and my favourite player is Steve "interesting" Davis!!

    Brillant work!!

Shame i missed this on the telly when it was on the beeb because ill like a copy of this!
