All of this rack for that... Look, war sucks, in any way you see it, it doesnt matter if Japan started or if the Americans end it in a way too horrible way. Both countries are now living a new era, and for people like all of you that still fight about what happened in the past, the world can't move on. Why dont you all just agree in something: Each soldier from each country fought and died for what they did believed it was the right thing to do. We have no right to make a judgement.
The O'Bannon was a lucky ship. They made it through the Pacific War, and, although the ship was damaged at the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and later at the Naval Battle of Vella Lavella, there wasn't a single Purple Heart on board. She received 17 battle stars for World War II service.
My grandfather was in the Navy during World War II. His station was up in the director of the destroyer U.S.S. O'Bannon (DD-450), tracking enemy targets and controlling the 5-inch guns. Though, he wasn't at Midway. The O'Bannon was commissioned in late June 1942, did some anti-submarine patrol work in the Atlantic for a month or so, then joined the Pacific Fleet in August 1942. The O'Bannon was involved in the so-called First Naval Battle of Guadalcanal, during the night of November 12-13, 1942.
Nice footage of the 1.1"/75 quad AA guns at 10:31, 10:37, 10:40, 10:52, 11:14, 11:22, and 11:24, and of the 5"/38 guns at 10:56, 11:03, 11:07, and 11:39. The 20mm guns can be seen behind the 1.1-inch guns on deck, and behind the 20mm guns, the 5-inch guns.
I'm not laughing about any of this but I know for sure that hundreds of my American brothers died very swiftly on a morning in December of '41. Then again, some did not die so swiftly...some were below decks on board their ships when their ships sank and spent up to two weeks in the dark waiting to die, writing goodbye messages to their families on the wall.. Thank you.
I have looked at every possible way the Battle of Midway was fought and there is no way we could have won, let alone sink 4 carriers! Either we were very, very lucky, or God was there on that Day you pick one!
@joevet66 As I see it, there is NO way the US could not have won the battle other than just absolute bungling leadership, but that was certainly not the case. Midway, in books and magazine articles, movies , documentaries etc, has been greatly misunderstood. One the most glaring mis conceptions about the battle is that We knew their battle plan or they out numbered us so badly. But the truth is we probably outnumbered them.
When you watch this you can see why the Americans are fucked in the head. What a load of shit. They can o nly win a battle when they outnumber the enemy ten too one. Have to get back to their mums and have their apple pie. Looking forward to when their time comes, won't be long now.
@Gunga11101 First of all we did not outnumber the IJN at Miday, that was only the end of the war did so much manpower and material focused on a shrinking Jap empire. Besides as memory serves me right You Aussies didnt fair too well against the Japs mate. The only thing ya held on to was Port Moresby and ya barely held on to that, with USA support .....of course. Go back to your gator hunting.
@ke4bss z.z Gunga ur an idoit austrail helped alot if they werent there the Usa would have been destroyed in the pacific or atleast prolong the defeat of japan...(i hated that defeat). The aussi had a naval base in the pacific that helped with allied repairs. If austrial had been over runned the Usa could had faced invasion....
@ShinigamixXXx Im not sure I understand your reply but I do think you are talking about Port Moresby. Yes there was indeed a joint effort to check the Japanese tide in that campaign. I do not recall any Australian support in the battle of Midway. As far as I know there was Australian support during the Guadalcanal campaign that followed the Midway battle.
@ShinigamixXXx ,The Imperial Navy lost four of their front line carriers during the battle of Midway.. Many Japanese aircraft had to ditch at sea because they had nowhere to land....such is war....God Bless America!
also how can u side with america..... america killed thousands of civilians just to accomplish a stronghold in the pacific... examples dropping 2 atomic bombs in a populated area.....
@ShinigamixXXx , Japan killed as many if not more people during WW2. If Japan had not been so bull headed and admitted defeat, there would not have been any bombs dropped.
@bwild61 then u dont understand the japanese way.... its part of their culture...a westerner wouldnt understand. the japanese where willing to fite for their country for thier way of life as such they beleive dying would be better then being captured. Also if u think about it..... how would u feel if ur country was attacked and they butchered your people....tell me that...
@ShinigamixXXx , Well, speaking as someone whose country was attacked....on a Sunday, no less...and my people were butchered...I not only would feel angry, I would get even...and we did...God Bless America!
@bwild61 lol u make me laugh that was butchered u american killed civilians x.x burned them to a crisp.... you when my grandfather returned to hiroshima he found my grandmother burnt to a crisp ....... have u ever seen that sight ..... have u ...... you no nothing about pain and suffering
@ShinigamixXXx If Japan didn't want two atomic bombs dropped on them, all they had to do was simple and not that hard to do: NOT START THE WAR IN THE FIRST PLACE!
The atomic bombs were dropped when it was realized that the only other way to force Japan to surrender was a costly, all-out invasion of Japan, which would cost both sides hundreds of thousands of casualties.
@ShinigamixXXx hey dude i agree that dropping the bomb was terrible but japan did strike the first blow against America. America didnt fight with Japan until then. Japan wanted power. Japan also stole its way of life from ther cultures so it isnt fair to say japans way of life it is the asian way of life i.e the phillipines were involved too
@ShinigamixXXx You speak as if the Japanese were good guys during World War II! You're trying to prove that America was the ruthless, killing machine during the war? We all know that Japan asked for it, bombed Pearl Harbor without warning and in a most heartless and cruel manner, and did the same thing in the Philippines, Singapore, and countless other places in the Pacific. And, Japan invaded China and machine-gunned 250,000 civilians in Nanking. Same deal with the other Axis thug, Nazi Germany
@ShinigamixXXx Furthermore, the war against Japan was waged not only to defend the United States, but also to preserve freedom and democracy throughout the world, and to destroy fascism.
@ShinigamixXXx Finally, you ask why we side with America. Because we ARE Americans, and we are proud of everything that America stands for - liberty, prosperity, and the four freedoms - freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Americans have fought for centuries, and still fight today, to defend these freedoms. If you wish to continue this conversation, then by all means, reply to my post.
@ShinigamixXXx You state: "America killed thousands of civilians just to accomplish a stronghold in the pacific". What? I'm afraid it's the other way around. Japan invaded and killed tens of thousands of Americans for the "glory of Japan" and the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" and such nonsense as that, and to ensure their supply of oil, which the U.S. had embargoed on Japan because they were using it to supply their barbaric war effort in China.
If there's one thing I can't stand it's people using one war crime to excuse another. options to end the war were.
1. Drop the A-Bombs (Morally wrong but it ended the war in 1945)
2. Operation: Downfall (casualties in the millions for both sides, the war drags on into 1947 or even the 50s, Japan also suffers a Soviet invasion and is divided the way Germany and Korea were)
3. Blockade (Once again the war drags on longer and people are still dying in China and southeast asia)
@snakes3425 japan was alrready prepared to surrender complletly but the fact that russia didnt gave the message to the allies the war drag on...and also its is wrong to kill civilians if its a choice between civilian over army .. it would be the army because they gave their life to protect and serve the people..
The Emperor was prepared to surrender the Militarists who dominated Japan's government and infrastructure were determined to fight to the death and last time I checked it's was Japan's attack on China that set off the crisis that led to Pearl Harbor and the war to begin with
@snakes3425 Nope ur wrong America stoped giving japan oil so japan had to att the dutch indies for oil but then they realized america would moblized their navy in the pacific. so they planned to strike first to destroy battleship row in pearl harbour to cripple americas dominance in the pacific... Also Adimiral Isuruko Yamamoto was against this the militarists were provoking this war that Yamamoto protested was useless..and another info..
I'm fully aware the Yamamoto was against war with the US, you do know the Second Sino-Japanese War was in full swing at the time and the reason why the US cut oil to Japan
1931: Japan attacks Manchuria after Japanese Militarists attack a Rail Line in Occupied Korea as an excuse to cross into China
1932: Japan attacks Shanghai
1937-1941: The Second Sino-Japanese War begins with the Marco-Polo Bridge Incident in 1937 and results in the US cutting oil supplies to Japan
@mdcsun While I honor the sentiment, the nation's 'Thanks!' is hollow & self-serving. IF we truly honored valiant WW 2 allied defenders of democracy we wouldn't have forgiven the betrayal, war-profiteering & treason of DOZENS of citizens & US companies that supported & funded Hitler & 3rd Reich -- Like Henry Ford, JP Morgan, Rockefeller Sr & Jr, Standard Oil, GM, GE, DOW, Alcoa, Henry Dawes, Siemens, Bendix Aviation. Our failure encouraged modern scourge of hypocrisy & Corporatism, ie Fascism.
Around five years ago WWII vets were dieing at the rate of 1,000 a week, now 1,000 a day are leaving us. My father is 90 he fought in Guadalcanal and I see him not well lately.
@joevet66 Give your Father a big hug and an even bigger THANK YOU! for his service. It is a bit interesting to note that the Americans view Midway as the turning point in the war but the Japanese view Guadalcanal as the turning point.
@rondicorture peace after having 2 fucking nucs ...............wow amazing burn asses and then say lets hav peace .............rivival of hitler era as hitler did this to jews now amarica doing same with muslims a day will come when amarica will pay with blood like germans did in 2nd world war.........
@muhammadbilal808 seriously? latest I have never seen a video or news report or even a whisper of captured Muslims being beheaded and filmed for the world to see by American soldiers. Nor have I heard American citizen hijacking Muslim civilian airliners and crashing them into places where thousand of people go everyday. I wonder sometimes what you would do if Americans acted like some of the fantastical extremist with no regard towards innocent life.
I was in college when the Movie "Midway" (1976) came out. My g/f at the time didn't want to see it but her father did. He was on one of the US Carriers at Midway (I can't remember which one!) and had been injured bad enough to be sent home with a Purple Heart. He and I had a great time at the theater, eating popcorn and cheering each time an American bomb struck home. WW2 isn't ancient history and I wish all the young people out there would shake the hand of a Vet who helped keep us free!
Fucking Japs! I always hated this nation and Pearl Harbor made me hate them more. They sure got what they deserved even though I disagree with Hiroshima and nagasaki.
@SaitoYoshida You are wrong 'cause I am not from USA. The problem is that Japan got involved in a war that didn't take place in its territory thus, they were not threatened. But you wanted to share the world domination with that asshole, Hitler. What you did at Pearl Harbor was really bad. You had it coming...
You are a fucktard. Why do you hate people that lived in their houses normally? People that born after WWII and did nothing? Just tell me why racist dog?
@spanish111japan Hating someone for doing something bad is not racism! It's just hate. Like I hate germans and turks. And that doesn't mean there no good and innocent people among them. I am Greek but I admit there are many stupid people in Greece. It has nothing to with racism.
theses soliders were brave all the soliders that fought agenst the axis without them we`d all be under nazi control becasue without the lose of soliders from the allies hitler could have easly killed off the sovits pluse all the heroes from all the wars should be thanked for what they did and are doing now if you don`t want to stand behind your troops do them the favor and stand in front of them
@dividednation44 i`m only telling the truth mr braindeadithinktheworldworksmyway if you don`t want to help your country"s troops who protect your sorry ass go stand in front of them and aborb all those bullets
@dividednation44 so you beilve that your troops don`t do shit to protect your ass and that your country would be beter off without a miltary well if you realy want to get blown to bits be my guess but keep your bullshit to yourself and if you had proper schooling you would know that its the military's job to protect its people from forien threats
@worldofwarcraftman2 so you skip to an another point because that you could'nt handle me beating you there you pathetic fuck? so. if the pathetic grass eating rednecks werent heroic enough, the world's entire armies will crumble to the germans? nobody's army will have the punch to defend against the foriegn germans? in your retarded case, the answer is "yes". your a fuckin idiot by the way. lets see you bieng heroic against all the countris you pissed off with your racism, redneck.
@dividednation44 i guess you don`t know what i meant when i said all the heroes from all the wars should be thanked for what they did and are doing now it means all the soldiers because it takes guts to face down the enemy when in war and where the fuck did you get germans from pluse i`m not racist and if you didn`t know you don`t spell countries like countris and if your so pissed off because your getting pounded fine just shutup before you contune to emberess yourself
@worldofwarcraftman2 and you dont have those guts so you play warcraft like a madman thinking he's the king of the world by playing a game where 60 years old virgins gather. haha!
@dividednation44 well if you didn't understand what i said when i said all the heroes from all the wars should be thanked for what they did and are doing now it means all the soldiers today and in the past are heroes where the fuck did you get germans from also countries is not spelled countris also i`m not racist also what countries did i piss off and stop calling me a redneck i am not a redneck and what i can gather from your profile your just sad you lost the war just shutup
The only reason the had lost, was cause a Japanese Admiral made the mistakes of armoring his planes with land based bombs and not anti-ship torpedoes. While American scout plane, spotted them and the rest is well history.
Nothing to do with the british cracking the Japanese Navy Secret Coded Messages, and giving it to the Yanks, thus they knew the plans of the Japanese. Easy when u know what they plan to do
While its VERY important for us to remember the sacrifices our service men/women did. NEVER let the government lie to you about the truth.
Cause intact it was the Japanese who won the first half of this battle. The American pilots were out skilled and out gunned the whole battle, the Japanese however had veterans in this battle.
The government never lied. It does say in nearly every book i read that the Americans were screwed over until that lucky pilot...whose name i forgot found the Jap fleet and annhilated the carriers
This is a propaganda film made during the war to boost public morale, which is why the facts are sketchy. See the film Midway made after the war for details on the battle. This Ford Film says almost nothing about what actually happened.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
they were just as moronic as the nazi infantry. it's only lucky this time, unlike in korea, vietnam, iraq or the first world war, they had the moral highground.
It's neat to see the soldiers and sailors in color. It's also interesting to note what they didn't know or couldn't say about the battle (for instance, number of Japanese ships sunk or damaged seems a little high, and US navy casualties are not mentioned).
There were people in Desert Storm who got a dose of depleted uranium. It was used in the armor piercing shells the used. Also in the armor of the US Tanks. The military denied the Desert storm syndrome existed. But I read something about it in a magazine in the barber shop. The military did not want to have to pay stipends to screwed up troops.
In WWII, after getting his ass shot up in the Philippines, my dad was in occupied Japan with the 25th Infantry Division. From Nagoya, he was sent on loan to the 2nd Marine Division HQ'd in Nagasaki. He became an unwitting "Atomic Veteran"--one of the US troops exposed to nuclear fallout. No protective gear because the govt didn't think GIs needed it. He got pancreatic cancer & died from his service.
bltbolthead i was in the army i service for 21 years and i injoyed service in it too i wanted to do the 30 years but i end up geting hurt over see in dersert storm so you how dont belive in serviceing your counrty can go the hell

The O'Bannon was a lucky ship. They made it through the Pacific War, and, although the ship was damaged at the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and later at the Naval Battle of Vella Lavella, there wasn't a single Purple Heart on board. She received 17 battle stars for World War II service.
rhall4th 1 year ago

Either we were very, very lucky, or God was there on that Day you pick one!
joevet66 1 year ago
@joevet66 As I see it, there is NO way the US could not have won the battle other than just absolute bungling leadership, but that was certainly not the case. Midway, in books and magazine articles, movies , documentaries etc, has been greatly misunderstood. One the most glaring mis conceptions about the battle is that We knew their battle plan or they out numbered us so badly. But the truth is we probably outnumbered them.

ShinigamixXXx 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx Im not sure I understand your reply but I do think you are talking about Port Moresby. Yes there was indeed a joint effort to check the Japanese tide in that campaign. I do not recall any Australian support in the battle of Midway. As far as I know there was Australian support during the Guadalcanal campaign that followed the Midway battle.

@ShinigamixXXx ,The Imperial Navy lost four of their front line carriers during the battle of Midway.. Many Japanese aircraft had to ditch at sea because they had nowhere to land....such is war....God Bless America!
bwild61 1 year ago
@bwild61 wat r u talking about ???
also how can u side with america..... america killed thousands of civilians just to accomplish a stronghold in the pacific... examples dropping 2 atomic bombs in a populated area.....
ShinigamixXXx 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx , Japan killed as many if not more people during WW2. If Japan had not been so bull headed and admitted defeat, there would not have been any bombs dropped.
bwild61 1 year ago
@bwild61 then u dont understand the japanese way.... its part of their culture...a westerner wouldnt understand. the japanese where willing to fite for their country for thier way of life as such they beleive dying would be better then being captured. Also if u think about it..... how would u feel if ur country was attacked and they butchered your people....tell me that...
ShinigamixXXx 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx , Well, speaking as someone whose country was attacked....on a Sunday, no less...and my people were butchered...I not only would feel angry, I would get even...and we did...God Bless America!

@bwild61 lol u make me laugh that was butchered u american killed civilians x.x burned them to a crisp.... you when my grandfather returned to hiroshima he found my grandmother burnt to a crisp ....... have u ever seen that sight ..... have u ...... you no nothing about pain and suffering
ShinigamixXXx 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx If Japan didn't want two atomic bombs dropped on them, all they had to do was simple and not that hard to do: NOT START THE WAR IN THE FIRST PLACE!
The atomic bombs were dropped when it was realized that the only other way to force Japan to surrender was a costly, all-out invasion of Japan, which would cost both sides hundreds of thousands of casualties.
rhall4th 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx hey dude i agree that dropping the bomb was terrible but japan did strike the first blow against America. America didnt fight with Japan until then. Japan wanted power. Japan also stole its way of life from ther cultures so it isnt fair to say japans way of life it is the asian way of life i.e the phillipines were involved too
hedgehog98 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx You speak as if the Japanese were good guys during World War II! You're trying to prove that America was the ruthless, killing machine during the war? We all know that Japan asked for it, bombed Pearl Harbor without warning and in a most heartless and cruel manner, and did the same thing in the Philippines, Singapore, and countless other places in the Pacific. And, Japan invaded China and machine-gunned 250,000 civilians in Nanking. Same deal with the other Axis thug, Nazi Germany
rhall4th 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx Furthermore, the war against Japan was waged not only to defend the United States, but also to preserve freedom and democracy throughout the world, and to destroy fascism.
rhall4th 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx Finally, you ask why we side with America. Because we ARE Americans, and we are proud of everything that America stands for - liberty, prosperity, and the four freedoms - freedom of speech and expression, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. Americans have fought for centuries, and still fight today, to defend these freedoms. If you wish to continue this conversation, then by all means, reply to my post.
rhall4th 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx You state: "America killed thousands of civilians just to accomplish a stronghold in the pacific". What? I'm afraid it's the other way around. Japan invaded and killed tens of thousands of Americans for the "glory of Japan" and the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" and such nonsense as that, and to ensure their supply of oil, which the U.S. had embargoed on Japan because they were using it to supply their barbaric war effort in China.
rhall4th 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx
If there's one thing I can't stand it's people using one war crime to excuse another. options to end the war were.
1. Drop the A-Bombs (Morally wrong but it ended the war in 1945)
2. Operation: Downfall (casualties in the millions for both sides, the war drags on into 1947 or even the 50s, Japan also suffers a Soviet invasion and is divided the way Germany and Korea were)
3. Blockade (Once again the war drags on longer and people are still dying in China and southeast asia)
snakes3425 1 year ago
@snakes3425 japan was alrready prepared to surrender complletly but the fact that russia didnt gave the message to the allies the war drag on...and also its is wrong to kill civilians if its a choice between civilian over army .. it would be the army because they gave their life to protect and serve the people..

@ShinigamixXXx

ShinigamixXXx 2 minutes ago
ShinigamixXXx 1 year ago
@ShinigamixXXx

Cause intact it was the Japanese who won the first half of this battle. The American pilots were out skilled and out gunned the whole battle, the Japanese however had veterans in this battle.
