  • I'm so glad this was just opinionated not factual

  • Stef, you are generalizing.

  • There are many people in the public sector who have pride of workmanship, and do the best they can. Often, they tend to rock the boat, annoy their supervisors, and fail to get promoted, and either quit in disgust or get relegated to the most demeaning and irrelevant positions. And for every one of these dedicated people, there are 5 to 20 "time servers" who focus entirely on not rocking the boat and keeping their jobs and their pensions, and winning promotions.

  • Thats a nice sentiment and all but the failure of communism is your proof.

  • Can somone tell me how welfare shaves iq points off children?

  • You can go to the Freedomain Radio website. podcast number is 915 , Drugging Children.

  • Just curious, do you know anyone in poverty or on welfare?have you ever lived or been in the inner citys of america?.If I had to guess your from an upper middleclass family?.

  • there are studies out that provide statitics but its easy to reason out. Welfare = parents that dont work = generally people who dont show ambition. Children learn traits through parents (see mirror neurons). Thus children inhabit the same laziness as their parents. This is just how I see it, I dont know how stef justifys what he says

  • can't believe i actually listened to this waffle. there's no substance.

  • Human life span is decreasing. My generation won't live as long as our parents.

  • Well, the difference between my projecting myself onto comic book characters and greens projecting themselves onto the government, environment, etc. is that my projection won't be creating needless laws and state powers. :)

  • 'pollution isn't a problem'

    you are a moron

  • Fools always misquote.

  • @FukPhysics It's not nearly as big a problem as willful ignorance.

  • All emotion comes from a thought which comes from an interpretation which comes from a perception of

an event originating as a projection of the mind. Mary Croft

  • I agree that people of weak character run the state. In fact, this seems to be a historically recurring theme, with exceptions to the rule being brief, few and far between.

My explanation to this phenomenon is, that people who seek to use theft, rape and murder to impose their will upon others are the very lowest dregs of society. State offices offer this power, at discount rates, and even come pre-packaged with shabby moral justifications.

It is no wonder that politicians lack character.

  • good point

  • catch my response yet, stef?

  • Secondly: I don't see how privatizing all land/resources is the most rational way to protect land. Plenty of cultures have had common-land systems that were used sustainably.

But I guess you'll get into this in the latter 30 minutes of this video.

  • Regarding Pollution: yes, westerners being separated from their shit is a great parameter to look at, and a great success. But lets talk about when that shit is flushed away untreated. Or lets talk about eutrophication. Lets talk about global biodiversity. Lets talk about if there are sizable habitats for other species. Lets talk about agriculture and ecological sustainability. Urban air pollution. Accumulation of carcinogens in breast milk. Nuclear waste. Etc. Many tangible concerns exist.

  • I have to challenge you on two things Stefan even when I'm only 7:19 into the video. I think first off you need to be informed about the multitude of ways that people who called be called "environmentalists" are "active; plenty are scientists, or at least lay experts, and produce tangible and rational knowledge and ideas. (con't)

  • Explain how his definition is mistaken.

  • Looking forward to your take on the Libertarians! :)

Free Minds and Free Markets! :)

  • well, my feelings toward the US libertarian party are not quite so fond, but that is because of the surge to the right caused by the invoulentary nature of social security, but otherwise, I like them

  • I don't understand. The LP has never been in favor of social security...

The pro-war and anti-abortion elements within the LP are a small minority.

I guess we are right-wing on taxes and economics, but we don't support corporate welfare...

So where is the surge to the right you are thinking of?

    Immigration?

  • I wasn't saying they were in favor of social security. On to the question though. The American LP has actually moved to a more republican stance on social issues, case in point, the presidential candidate, Bob Barr. I read up on him, as all voters should, and he was almost as republican as McCain.

  • I totally agree with you that Barr was not the best choice for the LP. He co-authored DOMA, and voted for the PATRIOT Act, though he says he voted on it so he could insert sunset provisions in committee...

That said, he was no McCain. He advocated rapid troop withdrawal and lower spending and taxes. He recanted on DOMA, and was for drug legalization.

But just as Obama does not define the entire D party, Barr does not define the LP. We are a big tent.

One that is open to you, if you like.

  • well I am in favor of the LP and other non-main parties, it is just I feel that the US LP is somewhat damaged, but I haven't given up on it, I just like to stay open to other parties because of the nature of 3rd parties in the US to sometimes attract socially conservative candidates. regardless, although unlikely, I'd prefer the LP, GP, or IP over the two behemoths that control the US.

  • There are a few libertarians who are religious, but they all understand that they must never force their religion on others via the law.

The majority of libertarians are atheists and agnostics, in my opinion, and I don't even think the D's can boast that high a percentage.

I'm in favor of marriage equality and oppose federal attempts to make abortion illegal. I'm for free speech, and against the PATRIOT Act and middle east wars. But I want less spending and lower taxes, so I am a Libertarian.

  • I don't care if a person is religious, I am a christian anarchist myself, my only problem is that there are some unsavory policies that I have seen from the US LP, not tosay it is all of it, but you can't deny that there are people within the party that are more right-winged than most other Libertarian Parties would prefer.

I do like everything you yourself have listed being for and against, just overall, I am going to be cautious toward any American political party.

  • This guy is so smart!

  • I liked your videos more when you invested all of your concentration on them and not running around endlessly.

  • I appreciate your response everyone! I will not address your second point Rob, because either an ethical government is impossible as proven by your first point, or we are in complete agreement and you, in fact, oppose the very same things we anarchists oppose. Instead I'd like to just ask you one thing. If your first point, that all societies and governments can be corrupted, is true, would you agree that giving those governments an exclusive monopoly on the use of violence is unwise?

  • Hello Star. I'm a bit confused. Are you addressing me or Spikebravo?

  • I was addressing Spike, I was looking at your name and confused myself, sorry!!

  • lol man eating lawn.

  • Well I agree about the concept of heroes being a destructive compensation for abusive relationships. But I think that fantasy can even have a place in a healthy lifestyle. Even the Native Americans (prior to the European usurpation) who lived free and open ended lives developed there own entertainment in the form of mythology. I'm not saying it's a good idea to actually believe in that which is fake but I think creativity ought to be encouraged. Maybe I'm misinterpreting your message though..

  • WHat's with all the hate on this? THe dude is arguing for pacifism, voluntary association, and peace! He wants people to be free!

  • Political Parties Anal-yzed..

Stef I normally find your stuff quite interesting.. but this is so way off the mark with 'greens' or for that matter 'Party' analysis.

What if the kid came from a perfectly happy family without any abused mothers or bully fathers? can't people just 'CARE' about the world & the future, especially when they have children of their own?

The state is there to 'regulate' (to prevent corporate abuses) to 'legislate' & to procure essential public works & infrastructures.

  • You wish to protect the future, so you would have the institutionalization of its destruction? For one, a debt individuals never incurred is currently crippling the U.S. Another is that the state is coercion; you would enslave the future to violence in order to follow your environmental opinions.

What you can act upon as an individual is your own habits; cut down on your own pollution.

With the state you, merely legitimize "might is right;" that others are bound by your convictions.

  • Colilace1..

I wish to protect the future. Yes.. but who says that I "would have the institutionalization of its destruction"?? You say that not I! & I certainly don't agree with that ASSUMPTION.

I have ALREADY cut down on my pollution footprint. I am already careful with the environment.. I already CARE!

The problem is so many folk out there DONT care.. & far from THEM being bound by MY convictions.. if anything I am bound by their couldn't-care-less attitude & LACK of ecological awareness.

  • All I'm saying their is that you are the one who would resort to force in order to compel others to your ends. That use of force is certainly a possible action, and it is the only way a "state" can operate, but the idea that initiation of force is morally justified is a rather ludicrous idea.

  • "For one, a debt individuals never incurred is currently crippling the U.S."

I think you need to be more aware of this 'debt's origins..

Firstly.. the value of the 'Petro-Dollar' was based on 'Oil Reserves'! The Corporate CEOs got BONUSES based on 'Reserves'. So guess what they DID when reserves stared to fall? They 'fixed' it so they could get massive bonuses! It came out with Enron & there were many MORE!

So.. on 911 Bldg7WTC was demolished & all the 'evidence' of this with it!

    cont...

  • cont..

The day before Rumsfeldt announced 2 TRILLION 'missing' from the DoD 'Budget'.

But with the shock of 911 everyone just forgot!

So they started to issue these derivatives along with all these ponzi-like Treasury bond to PAY for the Wars!

People went along with Bush! Many even said "Hell yeah war war! Smoke them out" etc

Blood lust took over & REVENGE was all Americans thought about. Well.. REVENGE costs MONEY!

    Hense the 'Debt'!

These WARS are what's crippling America (& creating the debt)!

  • What about medicare? Welfare, corporate and otherwise? As an anarchist, I need no more convincing that any tax dollar spent by the looters in unjustly gotten, especially on the military.

  • The State is easily evil enough without all the conspiracy theories; They steal and force support from their citizens. That's about enough evil to hate it right there.

  • @ejbh3160:

I wholeheartedly agree that war is the practices of theft and murder to loot domestic populations, and using the profits to murder foreign populations. Any voluntarist, myself included, will happily vouch for your right to not support theft and murder.

  • I'd really quite like to be able to perform an intellectual (or any kind of) somersault - it sounds great fun!

  • you got a little too Freudian with your speculating in this one, stef.

  • And generalisations about me. Where do they come from?

  • Man, look up "the state" in a goddamn dictionary, will you? "...in Max Weber's influential definition, it is that organization that "(successfully) claims a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory," Wikipedia. Its the only power any state has, and it means the "right" to steal and oppress, among other entertaining and pleasant things. Also, "your definition is mistaken"? And?

  • I still see no answers to my points, just assertions.

  • Are you going to respond to us or are just going to keep your mind closed and keep on psychoanalyzing those you disagree with?

  • Comment removed

  • You're not answering any of my points, just making assertions. A government is just a concept, ethics is impossible for it.

  • 1)The government by it's very nature is immoral and hypocritical.

2)If there are people that choose to be unethical and violent then what sense does it makes to create a monopoly of force that these people can take control of(and allready have)?

  • Well, that pretty much explains it all. To believe in god is to throw away logic. Not necessarily in all issues, but somewhere along the line there comes a moment when you say "I believe", and thats where reason goes down the shitter. Your stance on statist issues is due to your beliefs, not logic, I will bet my last pair of socks on it. Its still a bet, I may be wrong, but I dont think so. I base that on your other comments here.

  • I call bullshit. You assume people are crippled idiots, provide evidence. My experience is most people are capable of governing themselves. And even if SOME people aren't- does it mean we have to structure our entire society around providing for their needs at the expense of EVERYONE else? Why can't only THEY be controlled, and leave the rest of us out of it? Democracy my ass...

  • Spikeb. In earlier posts you said we can't do without a governent, then you said in point 1 that corrupt people will find a way to poison any government, so where does that get us? Does it mean we shouldn't have a government or that we should have one and accept that it will always be corrupt?

  • Spikeb: '2. having a legitimate and ethica govt does not equal giving them permission to steal and oppress.'

No, it doesn't, but how can a government exist without stealing, ie forcing everyone to pay taxes?

  • How is it absurd? How is it a fallacy? If Batman is a kind of mini government then that means 99.99% of all the so called anarchists in existence are actually okay with government. But this is clearly not what a government is. A government is a coercive monopoly on the use of force.

  • Oh, okay so is Batman a government then since he is stopping bad guys without stealing or oppressing the masses?

  • Spike, if government doesn't have the right to steal and oppress it by definition is not a government. That would make it nothing more than mere dominant protection agency.

  • Spikeb. In point 1 you've just contradicted yourself.

  • In response to your posts, I would ask two questions.

    1. What kind of government would you suggest that would prevent people of bad character from gaining control of the violent monopoly?

    2. How is it that giving a group of people the right to oppress and dominate others prevents people from oppressing and dominating others?

Whatever superheroes I may or may not believe in, these are logical questions that any reasonable statist should be able to answer. I look forward to your reply!

  • Because there is no god, does that mean you are certain that there is nothing to our existance after brain death? Or is that something you still have an open mind for?

  • Why?

  • HAHAHAHA brilliant

  • I am the strawman arguer. I provide a caricature of what I'm arguing against and refute that.

  • Oh c'mon? major illnesses have been wiped out?? Say that to the AIDS & cancer & heart disease etc sufferers.. oh boy only 3 mins in too!

Pollution is a MUCH bigger issue now than the middle ages too! 'Disease' was due to hygene! In other parts of the world they knew how to wash without polluting!

    Flouride 'good'?

What are you ON tonight Stef?

The major polluter now is fossil fuels & nuclear power! Coal is both radioactive & a huge CO2 contributer & nukes leave pollution for 250,000 years! cont..

  • Gosh, it seems to me that vaccines and prevention have done a lot of good, and our lifespan just seems to keep increasing!

  • gosh seems to me countries like China & India that didn't practice 'western chemical medicine'.. ended up with even larger (healthier) populations

  • China and India don't use vaccines and antibiotics? Really? I mean, are you really saying that?

  • No I'm OBVIOUSLY not saying that!

(gosh it amazes me how people CHOOSE not to understand when they don't want to)

What I was saying was that China & India managed to grow to huge populations while Europeans still only numbered in the few million (BEFORE western medicine).

IMO our lifespans keep increasing because we have 'reactive' immune systems & we adapt. Like the Earth's eco-systems 'adapt'. That's how 'nature' does it. The weak die & the strong live.

& I for one don't trust vaccines now

  • I think vaccines & anti-biotics are simply storing up the problems for our grandchildren!

Instead of finding was to BOOST our immune systems; we are attacking the immune systems with these drugs.

Vaccines do NOT boost immune systems.. they put a huge strain on the immune system & introduce an antibody in a totally unnatural way.

anti-biotics actually kill all the GOOD flora & fauna in your body at the same time as the bug. As usual over-prescribed &.. surprise surprise we're developing immunity!

  • Your opinion of what works doesn't matter. What works is what works.

  • LOL

so during the previous 'outbreak' of so-called 'swine-flu' in the 70's.. when shock horror 4 or 5 people died from swine flu... and 25 died from the vaccine?? (meanwhile 10,000 people died from 'ordinary' flu that year) should we just ignore that data?

The fact that Chinese medicine treats over 1/3 of the worlds population? (the healthiest on the planet seems to be Chinese.. & they have 'cures' not even looked at by chemists)

You're confusing, what MAKES THE MOST MONEY with 'what works'.

  • Provide sources

  • look it up yourself..

it always amazes me how the incredulous demand proof without researching it themselves...

    LOL

    ;-)

there are links on YT but I really can't be bothered.. do your own research. I think Ron Paul (a doctor) explains the swine flu thing from the 70s..

um as for the Chinese.. well FFS how much 'evidence' would you like? LOL

And isn't it 'odd' how an entire batch of 'vaccine' sent to Europe recently just happened to be 'contaminated' with LIVE bird flu! Just before an 'outbreak'!

  • Sorry bub, the burden of proof is on you, the person making the claim.

  • I gave you enough to be starting with.. go looksee yourself. There's enough on YT alone to get most of the 'alternatives' to chemical medicine.

And your one-liners are the same sort of sophistry exhibited by stef this time (which was rather disapointing as I agree with a lot he says) I can only assume he's talking about Canadian 'Greens' (although I doubt their policies are that far adrift from the UKs Greens) & quite frankly zee Freudian BS he's spouting this time demands the "burden of proof".

  • Youtube is not a source for reliable scientific information. You need to cite peer-reviewed research.

  • There is a book on whatwemaybe dotorg with a wider vew: "Future of Human Evolution" by J.Glad.

It might be of your interest, and it goes even farther than ejbh3160 does.

It's about our grandchildren that ejbh3160 has mentioned.

  • Thanks wholethinker.

  • Sorry bub.

But main stream media has reported over and over on this subject.

Actually ONE person in New Jersey died of Swine Flu in the 70's

    One.

    Its not hard to find.

Try a Wiki search and educate yourself.

  • How is any of this relevant?

  • oh... and it may not matter to you.. but it matters to me..

my 'opinion' of what works may well save MY life.. while you blindly accept the jab when you're told it's "mandatory" (like they said to the troops out in the Gulf War).

The levels of mercury in vaccines alone should make you balk.. but hey friend.. dream on.

And its well known that anti-biotics are over-prescribed.. so don't come on all sanctimonious with me about what does & doesn't matter!

And in MY opinion.. opinions do matter!

    ;-)

  • The use of mercury (thiomersal) in vaccines is being phased out. Shows you know nothing about what you're talking about. You accept celebrity, conspiracy theorist, and just plain uninformed views on vaccines, yet you attack me for my "blind acceptance" of the medical consensus. These "opinions" aren't saving your life, and they aren't saving the lives of the children in the UK dieing from measles outbreaks, which were controlled for decades until vaccination levels went down.

  • "is being phased out".. oh yeah.. by when? You mean its still there.. but newer vaccines won't have it..

What ALL vaccines or just some? Research & you'll see...

The measles 'outbreak' is actually connected with loads of OTHER factors too... but let's not let the data get in the way of selling more vaccines.

  • "Research & you'll see..."

Do this one more time and I'm done with you. If you don't provide sources for your claims, you're a waste of my time.

Pink unicorns have been found in Sri Lanka. Research it for yourself.

  • I researched the (invisible) pink unicorns.. & nope.. I'm afraid they haven't been found.. but then they are invisible eh?

    ;-)

your point was? Oh no point.. just sarcasm.

Do that sarcastic BS one more time & I'm done.. come to think of it.. I'm done anyway.. it would appear there's no more point trying to explain why people care about the environment to you, than to stef (who seems stuck in some weird Freudian pseudo-psychology of the 1800's when it comes to.. umm.. 'political analysis')

  • To continue: the over-prescription of antibiotics in no way affects the actual effectiveness of antibiotics in treating infection. Your point is moot. Do you somehow think that I'm advocating antibiotics be prescribed to everyone, even if they don't need it?

  • To clear things up before you continue needlessly attacking me: my point there was that the overuse of antibiotics does not automatically mean that antibiotics are useless. It should not be interpreted as saying that overuse does not increase antibiotic resistance, which is a real problem.

  • LOL!!

"before you continue needlessly attacking me"

oddly enough when I look back over this little exchange.. it was it was not I who was attacking you but YOU who stepped in & was attacking me... & for what? for stating that China & India managed to grow HUGE populations before 'western' medicine came along...

    just more data.. silly me.

  • "the over-prescription of antibiotics in no way affects the actual effectiveness of antibiotics.."

    You ARE joking I hope??

Everytime someone is prescribed anti-biotics who would have got better anyway.. the effectiveness of that particular anti-biotic is reduced because the bugs develop IMMUNITY...

gosh look even the bugs develop immunity.. do you think more complex creatures like human beings might do so too??

  • "To clear things up before you continue needlessly attacking me: my point there was that the overuse of antibiotics does not automatically mean that antibiotics are useless. It should not be interpreted as saying that overuse does not increase antibiotic resistance, which is a real problem."

You read that, because you later quoted that. Be honest.

  • umm yes I did quote it.. as I was replying to your posts one by one as I always do.

Be honest?? (not sure I like the insinuation there buddy)

How about being honest that it was YOU who attacked me (needlessly) initially?

In fact I can't even see a post where I've 'needlessly attacked you'..

    please produce references ;-)

Anyway my point was that bugs develop immunity to anti-biotics.. much as WE would develop immunity to those bugs over time (without the antibiotics).

  • @stefbot thats because our bodies are full of herbicides and pesticides that cover all our fruit ad vege to make it last longer..

  • I... don't think that coal is radioactive...

  • DasGunt.. well there you go.. you learn something every day eh?

  • with 6 billion of us & rising we can't go on 'consuming' in such a destructive way! If you watch Lord Adair Turner's speech on 'Disclosure' in NY (its on Google), you'll see its perfectly possible to have an advanced technological society in a non-polluting 100% recyclable low-energy way in our lifetime!

Whatsmore it can be done with almost zero impact on GDP over the next 30 years. But we need to act NOW because we are tampering with the CO2 mix in a way that has no precedent in 'nature'!

  • Death from aids has declined hugely since 1990 in America. Where its still a huge problem -- Africa -- are the places where there is the least technology and wealth, and consequently education. ie. where it's primitive.

And yes, in comparison to the past, major illnesses are basically whipped out. Heart disease and cancer are still huge killers, but a few hundred years ago (except the royals and feudal lords) you'd be lucky to reach age 30, let alone 50, 60, 70 where cancer mostly strikes.

  • Hamandch who says so?

I look in my local churchyard and it looks to me like people either died as children... or lived into their 80's & 90's.

The average was only in the 60's because of high infant mortality.. much of which was down to cleanliness.

Its a very Western thing to be dirty! Its no wonder we treat the environment like a trash-can. We treat our bodies much the same. Europeans lived like pigs while in Asia & the Middle East they had baths & much more 'wholistic' approaches to medicine.

  • Did he say that ALL major illnesses have been wiped out? NO.

  • Comment removed

  • 3:25

  • Yes, major illnesses actually were wiped out. The fact that the vast majority of people born in the west live to the age of 40, 50, and most to 60 and beyond is due to eradicating most of the old killers, along with improvements in diet, hygiene etc. Thats why we now can die of cancer at the age of 70, instead of the flu at the age of 25. Yes, pollution is bad, I hate smog, and clean techs are great. But some vaccines are even better.

  • Which major illnesses were wiped out?

smallpox is still in existence (probably in genetically modified weaponized versions)

Polio was basically on the way out & was all but defeated anyway.

Apart from that nothing has actually been 'wiped out'.

In most churchyards in the UK if you look at the graves of people from the 16-1800s many lived to their 80s & 90s! There was simply more infant mortality. Thats why the 'Average' was down in the 50/60s but again that was western 'hygene' not 'medicine'.

  • Alright, lets not confuse "medicine" with the "medical profession", okay? Mate, I would be DEAD twice if not for surgery, and at least once if not for antibiotics, and thats the experience of many people I know. Yes, far less medication and more prevention by hygiene, nutrition, excercise, etc, is the way to go, but don't throw it all into the same bag.

  • I don't throw it all in. stef does.

He's mixing apples & pears. Using one example to justify belief in something different.

As for 'abusive parents' being the reason people CARE about the environment.. well all I can say is it way over-anal-yzed.

This was what Freud did. everzing is becoz ve av ze abuziv father unt ze helpless mutha.

Not a single 'political issue' raised or refuted.. just Freudian pseudo-psychology fronting as political analysis

But hey its easier on the ear than Alex Jones

    ;-)

  • I'm disabled & on medication for the rest of my life. So don't throw that round like you're the only one.

However many of our modern ailments are CAUSED by our modern pollutions, toxins & 'lifestyles'.

Accidents will always happened but I agree modern 'surgery' has certainly improved.

I'm not so sure surgery is always the answer & I'm sure there are as yet un-thought of 'cures' just waiting to be discovered or re-discovered.

And of course illness & death are part of the experience of 'life'.

  • He's done a lot of podcasts on the astounding lack of logic that statists use to justify a government. Maybe you should watch those.

  • If I understand you correctly, we need a state to dominate and oppress everyone in order to prevent anyone from dominating and opressing anyone else?
