GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "In 1962 they had a storyline where Phil Capice was kidnapped by the mob. They took one of their crooks, John Lambert, and performed plastic surgery on him to make him look like Phil in an attempt to get Phil's father-in-law's property. This storyline titillated housewives because Louise, Phil's wife, was constantly lamenting how Phil would not 'retire for the evening with her'. John may have looked like Phil from the neck up but not from the neck down."
I remember Stephen Elliott as playing Paul Ailey on "Love of LIfe." It was around 1973.
I wonder whether the smoking scenes were written into the script or if some of the actors just felt more comfortable smoking during the live broadcast. It wasn't until January 2, 1971 that the law banning cigarette advertising on American TV went into effect.
I met Paul Taubman, organist, during a full-day visit to "The Edge of Night" studio in August 1974. I may decide to play and post his theme.
Notice how the show's police chief character was named for a director named William Marceau? Several "Edge" characters were named for behind-the-scenes people, nost notably Philip Capice -- later a producer of "Dallas." Keep these wonderful episodes coming, please!

I love how they have her on one side of the screen and him on the opposite side in the mirror!

And notice how the actress is looking away as she says some of her lines? It's all great. Such Simpler Times.

This was great. Virginia is fascinating to watch - she's like an evil Rachel Ames or Nannette Fabray.
