The reason I found PotD to fuck that up was because it took Dieselboy (and many other DJ's attempting to recreate the sound) and the original jungle sound and brought it in too heavily with "hardcore" DnB, creating "dark" jungle", which got in the way of the original jungle sound/vibe of high-speed instrumental hip-hop.

Agreed, but not so much "late" jungle as "dark" jungle. Even in 2000--03 (my era of partying) pretty much all DnB was considered jungle and vice versa; aka if it wasn't house or trance, it was considered jungle and was in that shitty little room where a lot of people never went... but even in that time people in the know recognized the difference between DJs like AK1200(DnB) and Dieselboy(dark jungle). Can't help but think the whole Planet of the Drums thing fucked that up...
