  • I have a golden melody 16 holes harmonica. I got it from my friend

  • Mongoose Nuts, Not Possum Pussy!

  • @crusheroftheist wow - thanks for letting me know that. This same guy sent me VICIOUS offlist emails then pretends to be a nice guy to the people at SPAH and the rest of the harmonica community. I've saved the messages - have the proof. I really can't stand two-faced meanness - saw through him a long time ago. Now to know he doesn't even cut these combs he's hawking? Amazing. I'll be sure to let the people I know who buy harp parts in on the facts. Thanks for the heads-up!

  • Hi Jason Iam after a bit of advice, I have just made my first comb, and its quite good even if I say so myself lol. what do you use to seal /varnish them, any tips would be much appreciated . regards John

  • @mattrsmart So does your Egg-shaped head... almost deformed looking. Too bad a CNC can't correct that.

  • @mattrsmart then why not delete your admittedly 'rude' comment? It wasn't ONLY rude, unprofessional and disparaging, it was pure stupidity. Have you no idea that those harps quickly sold out beCAUSE they were made by an artist such as Jason Ricci with people who know how he plays dying to get their hands on a harp customized by him? You don't have a hope of ever getting to his level yet you come here to insult him? Pah. Another one thinking he's a big man behind the computer.

  • What's the price range on the custom harps?

  • @gorblimey61 these sold out nearly as soon as he finished and posted them - back in October, 2008.

  • @ElizabethGS Mybad. I was just curious and didn't check the date.

  • Dude can you make one for me if so how much are they to make/modify?

  • that was mind-blowing !

  • my dad was awesome when he was alive, i still got his larry adler chromatic 16, worth a bit i reckon easy 40 years old, i play guitar and must try and get into the harp one day, sounds cool

  • The guitar soloing was incredible.

  • He's fucking good jeeesus!

  • Dammit Jason, those harps are amazing... as amazing as your playing!

  • whats the difference between a harp and harmonica? if there is a difference

  • @xThatRussianGuyx people tend to call the 10 hole diatonic a 'harp', short for mouth-harp. It's a mouth organ basically (it's called that in Britain). The chromatic harmonica (with a slide/button and more reeds) is not called a harp as often. Most often 'blues harp' is referencing the kind Jason plays (and showed in this vid).

  • that was a great blues ! but the beginning is very strange, the voice xD!

  • that was a great blues ! but the beginning is very strange, the voice xD

  • You make them? If so, you should make a video of how you make them.

  • Those 16th's work real pretty, here. Great shuffle.

  • AWESOME!!! I love the little Flintstones homage!

  • seems to sound like magic dick in places. he must have used equipment like that on whammerjammer.

  • very nice !!!

  • great, so how do i buy one!?!?

  • I just picked up a F-64C while in Tokyo for $1400 ... I feel like the police should be out looking for me for robbery or something! But one day, I have to get a custom!

  • Do you sell any customized harmonicas ? Just sent another request previously. Wow... you are bad. pjr

  • they are beautiful harps, but one question; How much?

  • One day, I want to jam with you, mr. ricci :P

  • What a beautysssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • hey those harps are AWSOME think you can do a youtube videos on how to make or mod harmonicas.. make them louder and perhaps bending the the reeds... embossing would be cool . any how awsome vid cool harps awsome playing and hope to see some diy harp mod vids thanks

  • Very nice custom work! I`m curious about the materials you`ve used. Did you completely remodeled the comb, or is it some kind of casting compound you put on the original comb? Also the tooths of the comb seem to be pretty long, on my harps they`re behind the reed plate. What`s the purpose of that? And why are the covers so oddly warped?

Sorry for asking so many stupid questions :)

  • Most the time I only use the harp gear amp I have had for a while now. Sometimes at fests Ill use two of those or two nassmans

  • Damn nice harps and harp playin'. Please, anyone know who played this? whats the name?

0:14 - 0:50 was enough for me, im gunna try and learn it.

  • Jason ricci and new blood the sonfg is the Blowzone layer

  • Still waiting for my Harrison Harp. Any word?

  • lets do some trades

i have gar ive not used

i have a multi effects unit

    midi pedal

    bbe max monster power cube

    ring mics

    chroms ect

  • sexiest thing ive seen on youtube...those babys are hot man. i would love to see how the bend if ya know what i mean.

  • So, what do you think about the , Hohner XB-40's ?

  • There are a few people who can play pretty nice on them, but mostly all the big akward feeling of a chromatic without its clarity and none of the freedom of diatonic.

  • @thewelford I love 'em.

  • No mistakin' those candy stripers when ye out there gigging... solid looking...built like a Billy-cart in a Sherman Tank factory.

  • Thanks for another brilliant vid. The track is awesome (and so is 'Sonja')- I'll have to get the new CD. And the harps- I want them. They look a bit like toys, or a bit like something you could eat- and you can see a huge amount of love and skill went into making them- and you can just tell they are superb instruments. Then you have to listen a few times because the tune just blew your head off! I give this 6 stars out of 5.

  • 2:25 i want

  • ive always wondered why they dont make harps so you know top from bottom just by feel, also a system where you could identify which key by feel.

  • There is a system for blind players called braille. Put little bumps on your harp if ya want, lol. You can get Turbo Harps if you need a system to tell what end is up. If it is too dark to look at the cover try blowing softly before taking the mic, lol. Or Again you can put little bumps on one end to remedy that too.

  • these harps are just lush, want!

  • jason,,,,,your puttin some of your custom harps on e,bay,,,,,,,,when man,,,id love one from uk,,,

  • Is that the riff from "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho"?

  • 2:08 i have to ?

  • Hey Jason, you are an excellent harp player! just ondering can you point me in the right direction of were i can get a nice custom comb for my harps especially my Hohner Blues harps. i just find the wholes are a little bit too small. special 20's are perfect but i prefer wood combs. Jason thank you my friend keep up the awesome work.

  • haha @ flinstones

  • Awesome lookin harps! Great song too!

  • The beggining of this song reminds me of Sonny Boy.

  • Man, that shuffle really jumps!

    Thanks!

  • Hey harp players come to Detroit 3rd sat in aug for Blues Brothers appreciation party at the Woodward ave Dream cruise..hat and glasses required. JC

  • Cool looking harps.JC

  • you are the god of harp!!!!!!!!!! W ITALIA!!!

  • Song name?

  • This little ditty used to be a JRNB gig opener tune, I think. It called all of us into the house so we could start paying attention.

  • just beautiful...

  • Jason - absolutely amazing.Your fluidity at this tempo is something else.......and the b5 at the end.......Damn!

  • amazing song! you rock

  • dude you rock you met me face to face at mystic hot springs in utah in 2006 my name is teddy and the force is with me

  • Please tell me about Mystic Hot Springs. I go to Valley View Hot Springs in Colorado often and am always wanting to hear of others nearby.

One of my most memorable hot springs experiences is when New Blood came to The Well with me in Penrose, CO.

    Aloha...........SQB

  • my dad did some of the pools in most o the colorado hot springs but the name mystic says it all it is very beutiful and micheal ginsburg owns it he is the one that did most of the artwork for the greatful dead he wanted us to live there but we moved on to oregon so sad.:(

  • damn none left ! Give me a shout when you've finished some more from the workbech.

    --- Alex

  • what song is that and who is the artist by the way well done those look beautiful

  • The song is called "The Blow Zone Layer" and it is by Jason Ricci and New Blood from the record "Rocket Number Nine" you can purchase it at barns and Noble, or borders or CD baby, amazon or itunes places like that....Thanks so much!

    Jason

  • These harps are quite beautiful Jason. You're very artistic, it seems, in more than just playing music! I don't see how you can stand to part with them! I don't think I'd ever want to part with even one! I assume that they are all set up for overbending?

  • Awsome looking at those great harps while listening to that great music.

  • Very cool Jason , nice harps well done :-).

    Davey.G. New Zealand .

  • Damn Jason! Those are awesome Harps, man!

  • woooooooohuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those are awesome harp designs. I love seeing you whenever you come to B.B.s in St. Louis. I wish you came to Carbondale, IL, we love you here. I finally was brave enough to post my harp playing video on youtube tonight. Thanks for all your youtube tutorials. T.J.

  • AND THEN I WAS THINKING WITH 1 OF THESE HARPS O MY LINES AND tIGERS & bEARS ALL W ATEING 2 C MY THING SPORT KING IMAGINE ME U C BUT HOW MUCH? AN ESKIMO SHARES IGLOO CONCERT@ "THE ICE HALL" INVITE 1 & ALL WE LUV THE SNOW WE NEED MO JO
  • There She BLOWS

  • I think Eskimos would be good at fixin up harps they could skrimshaw a nice something on the cover plates

    like Moby Dik

  • Simply beautiful... Art Masterpieces

  • Forgot to ask, whats the #3 for?

  • 3 is my lucky number....Thats all...Plus I thought it would make it look more like a race car with a # on it.

    Thanks

    J

  • That red pin stripe is way pimp!!F#ckin slick!

  • Damn, Jason - beautiful, unique harps. I'll start saving my pennies.

  • Incredible playing!!! Man oh man!!!

  • No offence, but the coverplate work leaves much to be desired. Get some duck bill

vice grips and cut them down.

  • No None taken. The duck bills broke while crimping on this M.B. and I was able to get the Blues harps out mostly ok but with a couple of knicks normally that would never happen on the EASY part (Cover Plates). The only challenging thing on coverplates is raising the draw side for reed clearence which if you look close you can see has really been done well on these and the others in the other vid.

    Thanks!

    J

  • I frigging HATE opening the lower covers. Too much of a mouthful. BUT, I am have a die made

that is cool as all hell. Makes more reed space without bending the cover. P.S. There is nothing easy about opening S.P.20 covers and making them look factory good.

  • Jason, you have WAY too much time on your hands. Love thsi tune by the way, play it often. Hope to see ya'll again soon. Back to the Bean, soon!

  • Sweet and fluid jump jam there, Jason, and you have the best band in the biz! The harps are beautiful.

  • Thanks Theo! You rule too! The band is great...The more I travel and play with other guys the more obvious that becomes to me!

  • A mouse ear prewar? in Bb? That rules! I really like how you used fire red nail polish on that one. It really adds to the heart motiff, looks like a harp that comes with a box of Valentine's candy. I'm totally gonna rip that sometime!

  • Hey Dave...Actually thats a Ruby Slipper Acrylic Paint...took like 5 coats the harp just kept getting bigger with each layer too...The nail Polish went on last...Too bad you cant try any of these before they sell! They play the best of any I've ever built period!

  • They look great!

  • Seriously. I mean, please answer this: how can I learn from you? I'm dying to know how to customize harps like you. And play better. I don't think you have any workshops coming up?

  • Have a look at the elkriverharmonicas videos, he has made a lot of really useful customising videos.

  • Dave Rules...Check our videos of us hanging TOGETHER!

  • Thanks Johnny... I took some of them down, cause it's a never ending learning process, I'm gonna be replacing them with some better videos. There are still quite a few customizing videos there right now.

  • Where do you live Butterfly? Chances are I play there and we can probably schedule a day...Also I will definitly be doing a seminar next time I'm routed out to Colorado...Stay in touch.

    J

  • I live in nyc. I saw you in Teaneck... space odyssey guy, since that's how I shall be remembered, :)

I keep checking your dates, what are the chances of you coming to mexicali or Terra Blues some day?

  • Chances are good for NYC Mexacalli never again...There are worse things to be remebered by then space odyssey guy too...How u been?

    J

  • Heh, you're right, Space Odyssey guy does have a cool sound to it.

I figured, no more Mexicalli after last time. How about the Terra Blues, then? Hope to see you again soon, nothing like watching you live. Don't forget us New York kids :D and I'll do my best to make it to your next seminar, whenever it is. Thanks for keeping in touch.

    Love The Flinstones ref!

  • Beautiful

The music was awesome too...great bending of your notes. See I did learn something playing with a harmonica player all those years...lol

  • Pat! Call me me miss you!

  • The racecar one looks like a candy cane!

  • Wow, that looks stunning! Like a piece of art work!
