Paul Kaye started the genre with Dennis Pennis way before Sacha was doing Ali G. The reason why he's not always that sharp with his questions is that he was neither an actor or comedian, just a guy from london, and had to get completely pissed before he could get the courage to approach these people which is understandable. He also had his nose and finger broken on separate occasions by security people. I think he deserves some recognition. Ali G was great but this guy is the original.

I agree. Completely talentless. Contrast this with Sacha Baron Cohen as Ali G. He created a strange space in which his interviewees weaknesses, but also their strengths, would be fully exposed. So Jacob Rees Mogg and Paul Daniels came out looking like complete dicks, but Tony Benn came out looking good because of his lack of pretentiousness and his passion. That took talent. It also took a lot of work preparing the character. Neither of these are evident here.
