Willie was shooting at an iron plate that the .50 should have had no problem cutting through. Something about the brand of ammo he was using for that shot was off, so it bounced back and came within an inch of killing him. It broke his jaw when it hit and busted up his ear muffs, but thankfully, he came out of it without any lasting damage.
