I saw when 117 was hited 1999.It was huge fireball above my head and few moments later sky was yellow-red on the horisont.I thought at first nato missile hit the target,but later in news they said that was stealth.That was happen from other side of Sava river from Sabac,and this missile was lunched from mountain Cer area.So rout was Cer-Sabac-Budjanovci.Interesting but unpleasant expirience! :)

During the Gulf war, stealth aircraft was an asset. We are in a war against terrorism right now. Which means intelligence is way more important than stealth. These aircraft are impressive but there is just no need for them right now. It's sad to see the F-22 program cancelled. But it was just wasted money.

And wonder how radars work, most of the time, US airforce would divert radars with UAV's and jets bomb it from behind or outside the wavelength, stealth makes sure that it never gets tracked after/before bombing the target..How they downed the F-117 was basic, they had people WATCHING THE SKY. Not to mention that it wasn't even radar that guided the missile from launch. The operator used basic trig to calculate a flightpath and shot the missile on an intercept course. Once close enough its pretty hard for any missile system that incorporates radar in the missile to miss a plane.

During kosovo war, F-117 only had 8 missions, because if was shot down early in the campaign, NATO generals then didn't know if Yugoslavia (Serbia) has some kind of new radar or something, they didn't know how it was shot down (until after the war) so they canceled future operations and instead used tomahawk missiles launched from ships, which were quite ineffective because they hit hospital, schools, civillian houses causing death of 4000 Serbian civilians and some 500 children

" Every thing in the air is reflected on the radar and he invented a radar image intensifier. Stealth means "reduced radar reflection".

I saw when 117 was hited 1999.It was huge fireball above my head and few moments later sky was yellow-red on the horisont.I thought at first nato missile hit the target,but later in news they said that was stealth.That was happen from other side of Sava river from Sabac,and this missile was lunched from mountain Cer area.So rout was Cer-Sabac-Budjanovci.Interesting but unpleasant expirience! :)

During the Gulf war, stealth aircraft was an asset. We are in a war against terrorism right now. Which means intelligence is way more important than stealth. These aircraft are impressive but there is just no need for them right now. It's sad to see the F-22 program cancelled. But it was just wasted money.

interesting how the 'invisibility' has been called 'like a swarm of birds', 'like a bird' , 'like a small bird', 'like a humblebee' its getting smaller and smaller.
Fact is the so called RCS resembles the size of a bathroom door, and just moderate modification to radar-guided missiles make them capable to detect, cause there are no such doors flying in excess of 300mph
however the fleet is about to get retired cause the 'myth' does not work anymore.

Makes one wonder how something like f-22 and B-2 and any other stealth for that matter would stand against something like s-400 triumf SAM if s-125 neva can take out f-117 by the serbs. I really don't think any stealth would survive against s-400 triumf. It is designed to detect and destroy stealth aircraft. Much more advanced system.

No, the S-400 triumph wouldn't detect the F-22 until about 8nm (VERY close in aircraft terms).
It's NOT designed for stealth aircraft.
The F-117 downing was due to the bombay being left open, meaning reduced stealth capability, meaning it was detected.
Also, the RCS of the F-117 is about 100 times worse than an F-22A or B-2

And wonder how radars work, most of the time, US airforce would divert radars with UAV's and jets bomb it from behind or outside the wavelength, stealth makes sure that it never gets tracked after/before bombing the target..How they downed the F-117 was basic, they had people WATCHING THE SKY. Its the easiest way to defeat stealth

@03nj one? out of how many sorties? there are very few if any aircraft that have a loss ratio even close to this aircraft. Not to mention that it wasn't even radar that guided the missile from launch. The operator used basic trig to calculate a flightpath and shot the missile on an intercept course. Once close enough its pretty hard for any missile system that incorporates radar in the missile to miss a plane.

@03nj The Fighter was designed in the 70's. Plus there was only one shot down in history. As soon as it got shot down, China/Rus was all over it trying to recover parts. One decade later both come out with a stealth fighter. China saying it built the next gen. LOL. The guy who shot it down even said it was luck. I do agree it cost to much. Thats why i didn't like the f22. Rather have 2 b rank fighter attacking 1 a class fighter. p.s. navy has better pilots anyways.

I have said a hundred times already, we shot down 6 US aircraft in the air (1 F-177 4 F-16 and 1 apache chopper) plus also some 40 UAV, and we have heavily damaged another F-117. Also Yugoslav air force carried out bombing of NATO airbase in Tirana (Albania) destroying 2 NATO aircraft on the ground, and all those are official loses, I think NATO lost much more aircraft but it is hidden from public so NATO could look strong. We lost 14 planes (Mig-29) and some 100 soldiers in battle

During kosovo war, F-117 only had 8 missions, because if was shot down early in the campaign, NATO generals then didn't know if Yugoslavia (Serbia) has some kind of new radar or something, they didn't know how it was shot down (until after the war) so they canceled future operations and instead used tomahawk missiles launched from ships, which were quite ineffective because they hit hospital, schools, civillian houses causing death of 4000 Serbian civilians and some 500 children

Serbian hero Dani Zoltan, the man who did the modification of radar says "everything that flies can be seen on the radar if you know what to watch. " Every thing in the air is reflected on the radar and he invented a radar image intensifier. Stealth means "reduced radar reflection".

Old Russian radar in the centimeter range which is clearly a reflection of F detected the 117th The modification was made about computing speed, altitude and angle of fire because radar is turned off after 12 seconds of work to prevent detection and locating radar . First radar find the target , do the calculations using the modified, missiles are fired "blindly" and 5 seconds after firing again include radar to specify the missile on target.

Lets see you shoot one down when you don't have idiots making cell phone calls of where it coming from retard. Also these planes are old as hell, B2 and F22 have much smaller radar surfaces compared this plane, so GG getting that lucky again.
