  • Go jaywalk on the interstate, grandpa!

  • this old out of touch guy needs to go home so the young ones can make some fucking sense of things..

  • Hmm... Much less easy...

  • If one wants to copy a DVD or HD-DVD they don't need a special code they just copy it. The only purpose this code has is to watch a movie on your computer without buying special software or to encode it into another format.

CSS is not copy protection as many think, it is just a technique used by the DVD Forum to make sure that all DVD players are licensed and in order for the manufacturers to license it they have to pay. There really is no other reason.

  • ugh, the old dude doesn't know shit

  • dont waste your money on HDDVD or BLU-ray Holographic Discs are coming.

  • Both media formats use the very same AACS encryption protocol The nefarious purpose behind the AACP plan, was to be able to keep a database of movie rippers with digital watermarking and then encrypt new movie releases so that the unique key in your computer would no longer be able to decrypt the content. You could rip and distribute what came out yesterday, but wouldn't even be able to watch what comes out next month.

  • LOL hddvd not blu ray

  • The only difference between HDDVD and BLURAY is technical, and it's simply the playback lens... Bluray's lens is shaped differently, and can 'see' about 67% more data than HD DVD. Blueray can put 25GB of data on a single layer disk whereas HDDVD can only do 15GBDVD. Both technologies use 450 nanometer blue-violet spectrum lasers shorter than the 650nm red lasers used in DVDs... shorter wavelength means higher frequency, which means a higher datarate.

  • Umm, what does copy protection have to do with Zionism? Curious.

  • Who said anything about Zionism?

  • Ofcourse they know nothing about it, You think the MPAA is gonna just out & say what this code is & how to implement it into software for ripping. They would shoot ya ass first. theys evil !

  • Wow, give these guys an IBM from 1980 and they would work wonders, but in todays world... "DISREGARD THAT, I SUCKS COCKS"

  • so really guys... "does this code work for HD-DVD AND Blueray?" LOL... i agree, these morons should go back to using computers with less than 8Mhz and 1200 baud

  • He said when he first heard the story. He probably realized pretty quickly that makes no sense.

  • Rule 1 and 2, or stop playing wow, depending on where you got that from.

  • ehh duh it somehows cracks HDDVDs uhduh. SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU OLD ASS MOTHER FUCKER. You and everybody else, get your fucking facts straight BEFORE you fucking YouTube it.

  • basically change the code, crack the code

  • WA DA FK UC ??

  • This show sucks. They are reporting on a subject that they now nothing about. Horrible.

  • serverus - you're a fucking moron

  • omg a series of letters and numbers. Dvorak, you are a useless sack of crap, roll over.

  • man dvorak has a job for a tech paper and is absolutely clueless about technology.....

  • Why is this discussion not addressing the fundamental issue? The problem is the outdated and destructive system of intellectual property protection.

  • are companies ever just gonna give up with encryption?what do they not get?

  • Exactly! You've gotta point there. I've been sayin it for years. Focus so much on encryption and not source code or runtime editing, memory, and hardware driver protection. In this case wouldn't matter anyways worst case scenario somebody just record via an HD camcorder.

  • it's all code.i don't know why that's so hard for them.anything that can be programmed can be reprogrammed

  • I think Cory Doctrow put it best in his speach at Microsoft:

"It's not because the people who break them are smart. It's not because there's a flaw in the algorithms. At the end of the day, all DRM systems share a common vulnerability: they provide their attackers with ciphertext, the cipher and the key. At this point, the secret isn't a secret anymore."

Dvorak nearly touches on this at the end of the segment.

  • In the old days of SoftIce and early hex editors bypassing a check was as simple as changing a boolean value into a 1 or 0 in an if statement. If PasswordCheckSuccessful = True Then Goto PasswordCorrect By default the value was False, change it to True and bingo, welcome to Donkeyland! It really was that simple. Yet mathmaticians and scholars remained so focused on making the perfect algorythm, like with routers, use the MAC address filter too and AES.

  • Yep!

  • Blu Ray? All other sources mentioned only HD-DVD as being affected...

Being that the two are bitter rivals, I'd say that matters quite a bit.

  • Interesting. I don't agree with the banning or the cease-and-desist letter. If some guy just figured out a crack code and posted it, big deal, right? And the whole pirating thing... c'mon. Are the artists and movie stars really struggling to make a decent living now a days? If they make it that you have to be extremely tech-savvy to figure out how to copy things illegally, the majority of people (of whom are not tech-savvy) will just give up!

  • They don't even know what they're talking about... kind of painful to watch O_o
