For those of you who say "it's not scary" you are clearly not viewing The Blair Witch from the angle which the producers, writers and directors intended. You need to watch this film with an open mind and "accept" for the entirety of the runtime as something that IS real. Otherwise you are just wasting your time to be perfectly honest.
A good example of what I mean: You wouldn't watch Avatar and say "oh this is so fake" because if you did that films you watched would be boring. Idiots.

The whole story heavily plays on psychology. Although the story derives from some from of truth, such as Rustin Parr and folkelore witchcraft, The Blair Witch is a ficticious story. The filmmakers made this so believable that the audience would actually think that this is a real documentary. This is a great marketing strategy for the film industry, end of. Its never been done before, hence becoming a cult classic.
In my opinion, the girl and her boyfriend killed the other guy,they hid his body in the forest and then, they ran god knows where,as for the videos found on the house,maybe they decided to add a little of a 'horror twist' to their documentary

Ok i know that the movie is 100% fake film BUT the legend might be real its a 50,50 chance because why would people in 1780s be joking when the revilution was going on it dosent make much since but i plan on going there and bring a camera who knows i could be lost forever......

I remember Polish movie of 70´s where happened similar things. Three with 16 mm camera and magnetophone tried to find a daemon. But one of them tricked and killed them then probably yourself to preserve the saga. The record was found next year buried under floor of ruin. But in reality nobody was killed.

No, this is definitely a mockumentary, I've seen other movies that have Heather Donahue in them she's made since this one for one thing, a horrible movie made last year actually called The Morgue (she's same as ever, still pretty damn cute too), don't bother with it...it sucks. But yeah, this was made as a promotional bit for the film, I used to have a VHS copy I'd gotten from the Space channel (Canadian equivalent to SciFi) when it was first on.

The whole story heavily plays on psychology. Although the story derives from some from of truth, such as Rustin Parr and folkelore witchcraft, The Blair Witch is a ficticious story. The filmmakers made this so believable that the audience would actually think that this is a real documentary. This is a great marketing strategy for the film industry, end of. Its never been done before, hence becoming a cult classic.

In my opinion, the girl and her boyfriend killed the other guy,they hid his body in the forest and then, they ran god knows where,as for the videos found on the house,maybe they decided to add a little of a 'horror twist' to their documentary

They can´t use the real footage because the crimes happened somewhere else and someone else was affected :-) The movie is only COMPILATION based on inspiration from them.
I remember Polish movie of 70´s where happened similar things. Three with 16 mm camera and magnetophone tried to find a daemon. But one of them tricked and killed them then probably yourself to preserve the saga. The record was found next year buried under floor of ruin. But in reality nobody was killed.

No, this is definitely a mockumentary, I've seen other movies that have Heather Donahue in them she's made since this one for one thing, a horrible movie made last year actually called The Morgue (she's same as ever, still pretty damn cute too), don't bother with it...it sucks. But yeah, this was made as a promotional bit for the film, I used to have a VHS copy I'd gotten from the Space channel (Canadian equivalent to SciFi) when it was first on.

I remember some time after its release, I was still a kid, my parents told me they had watched this insanely documentary-ish film on tv last night, called the blair witch project. This was over a year after its release and they still thought it was completely real. They showed this documentary after the film as well. It was really effective :P

entertainment, i guess. plus since it says that they will release the Blair Witch Project in theaters-- meaning it hasn't been released yet during the broadcast of this mockumentary-- it might even serve as a type of promotional service for the movie.

This was all part of the marketing behind the film. I mean if this had been played as a straightforward fictional horror film it would not have been so powerful.
I have to say its quite genius, its like Orson Welles's War of the Worlds radio broadcast where he freaked out half of the north east because people thought it was real
TBWP does the same thing here and it makes it all the more terrifying. I love the BTWP, I think it was way ahead of its time!

They were right that there was no concrete evidence that it was the blair witch who killed them and maybe people became so much superstitious that they went beyond what was real. I am not telling you that it was not real. I am like you who hunger for the real thing, i really wanna know too. If it were real footage of a real documentary gone awry, that would essentially make this movie snuff, and would probably be illegal to release as a movie. And someone would have to have serious issues to be entertained by the deaths of three kids. It was NOT real.

if you're talking about the blair witch....*sigh*... you know the disclaimer at the end of movie credits that say "...work of fiction. any similarities to actual events and persons is purely coincidental...?" there's one of those at the end of tbwp. NOTHING about the movie is real. the people who actually live there thought the movie was hilarious, said there's no such legend, and that the woods are so small you can walk from one end to the other in a couple of hours...
