  • Many C&W stars have performed and recorded this legendary Harlan Howard song but Roadwarrior3 has always found no one "delivered" it as well as Charlie Walker. RIP C.W.

  • What a great Classic...never get tired of hearin' it. Thanks.

  • Why do people think country music is redneck music? that's like saying donk is chav music. it makes no sence because you don't have to be a redneck to enjoy or make country music.

  • this is better than the music people are making today. i think the radio stations in the UK should play this kind of music. classic country music.

  • What a great ol song....so well sung

  • Thank you for sharing, my friend.

may you continue to be inspired and blessed,

    CG

  • For once and all, Harlan Howard wrote this song. All of you non believers, look it up....!

  • A great harlan howard song.

  • I am in my late 50's and grew up on the rock and roll of the sixties and seventies, but when I was younger at the beer joints with my mom and dad,I sat down in front of the jukebox listening the great country music like this one and I still love the old country greats.

  • Look it up on Wikipedia, Harlan Howard wrote the song, but Charlie Walker made it famous.

  • Harlan Howard did not write this song. My cousin did, Jimmie Eustice Jr. Released by him in 1960 - CP-4560 It was his one hit wonder and a whole lot of other country singers have since recorded it.

  • @ahrmles , Stop misleading Youtube viewers. Harlan Howard wrote this song.

  • @ahrmles Cocksucker, the late great Harlan Howard wrote this long before 1960

  • @MrMrMoto Is it necessary for you to be a crude, uneducated, piece of garbage?

  • @Mrsonnybe I think I was pretty drunk at the time, it shocked me when I saw what I wrote. I truly apologize that's not me normally.

  • Really Great Song & I like the music a lot, I don't know who he is

    but I'll looked up Thanks

  • I remember Charlie Walker and I also listen to him on the radio here in San Antonio over radio station KMAC. I liked this song but I didn’t know that he wrote it and owned it. I never did get to know Charlie Walker but my brother did. He also worked at the same radio station.

  • man, listen to that voice. now i call that country music.

  • @ Flashbell of course thats Jimmy Day thank you as I listened again it jumped out at me that steel solo was in Ray Price's words " My favorite musician and a man that if I were not careful he would mesmerize me to the point of forgetting the words to whatever I was trying to sing at the time. " my mother in law found a photo 1964 of Jimmy and the Cherokee cowboys after a show in Huntington WV. and sent it to his family in TX and they were very nice down to earth folks who really miss Jimmy

  • You may be their pride and joy but they’ll find another toy and they’ll take away your crown pick me up on your way down They have changed you’re attitude made you haughty and so rude Your new friends can take the blame underneath you’re still the same When you learn these things are true I’ll be waiting here for you As you tumble to the ground Pick me up on your way down

  • This is true country music

  • What real country music sounds like. Charlie was part of the best era of CW there ever was or ever will be. One great song that takes me back to a beter time.

  • Charlie Walker was so Underrated it's not even funny but i really doesn't matter all that matter that his music is being discovered by millions now Oh and by the way Mel Tillis also does Great version of this Song.

  • I am Charlie's youngest son and I can't start to tell you folks how much we appreciate the fans. We miss him dearly and he was a great father. Always took me hunting, fishing and we played a lot of golf. I played this on guitar to my 4 year old son the other night and told him it was his papaw' Walker's song. He loved it.

  • This is my friends grandmas cousin

  • Jimmie Dale Gilmore does a nice cover of this great tune.

  • Anyone know who the steel player is on this cut it sounds like Weldron Myrick

  • @rw1sgusa , No it is the late and great Jimmy Day.

  • this is real honky tonky country

  • Anyone who ever puts down a song for being "stupid or "horrible" sounding to the person needs to give the song there listening to a chance. I don't care what type it is Pop, Rap,Country, Rock whatever it is, they need to listen to the song any understand the lyrics to really understand and love it.

  • Aww, I just came across this. My grandmother used to run his fan club for him. Every time I hear this song, it makes me think of her.

  • Muito boa música!!!

  • Charlie Wrote this Song and was the first to Record it,

    Memories....Mike

  • @sessnazx , No, This song was written by the legendary Nashville songwriter, Harlan Howard. It was his first composition to make the charts. You are correct about one thingh, Charlie Walker owns this song!

  • I forgot just how great this is! What a contrast to the watered down stuff we hear now. I can almost remember another life.

  • Lordy how many times have I slow danced with some sweet swamp thing at the lone cabbage bar on highway 50 love the swamp things.

  • charlie walker sounds a lot like hank locklin

  • FIne song. Thanks for posting!

  • From Saskatchewan, Canada--hats off!!

  • There is just something really sweet about country music, isn't there? ! Blessings from Rose

  • i love this song,thanks for sharing.

  • I mind the time ... (as my grand pappy used to say) when I lived in the country back in 56. The first time I ever heard live music played was in the community hall up the concession a ways. I was fascinated with the story of this woman who I imagined ran away to the city to go night clubing like in the old black & white movies. Funny how impressive a song can be on a young mind. Three thumbs up for me.

  • Man what I'd give to see that steel player play that song....

  • This is what I think good old country! Love it! Thanks meehall again for this share which I already keep on my playlist...lol.

  • When I listen to classic country hits of yesteryear like this, I just can't see how most of what is played on country stations today can even be called country. To me, most of it sounds like a mix of rock & pop. Definitely, most of it is more rock than country. Give me the great "blasts from the past" like this over most of today's stuff any old day. Oh, for those heavenly days of hearing a steel guitar & fiddles in the background! THANK YOU for sharing this delightful gem with us! :)

  • Thanks mr moto, I've always liked Mooney but this is one the greatest sounds and original style I've ever heard. I did not realize Jimmy Day went back that far. He musta been a kid.........wonder if that was a Fender he was playing?

  • Yeah Im pretty sure its a early Fender and Jimmy Was probably in his 20s

  • Just The best Of The Best,

    Thank You,

    Mike....

  • @goffbum jimmy day is the steel player

  • This is real 'country western' music; not the country rock n roll music of today.

  • Charlie used to be a DJ on a local radio station in San Antonio, TX. My sister and I would listen to him every afternoon when we got home from school. Charlie wrote this song and was the first to record it.

  • @alicefay, I agree with everything you said except one thing. The late and great Harlan Howard wrote this song. It was his first to enter Billboard Country Charts.

  • For those of you who enjoy good steel pickin' look up Davepedalsteel on YouTube. I was astonished at how good he is...he even does "Pick me up on your way down" Give him a listen...I think you'll agree that he's a great player...It amazed me that he's from Suffolk, England too.

  • Great song 5*

  • ....both dotie west and martina mcbride did a great versions of on albums...!

  • Country music of today sounds like something from a galaxy far, far away. Awful.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 I wouldnt mind it so much if they just called it rock or something....its nothing any of the older greats would recognize...its not Country, thats for sure.

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 I agree with you 100%. What passes for country music today is crap.

  • You need to check out the GG Allin version of this song, its great.

  • is,nt this nice? seems like all the good music is gone. i try to hold on the ones i have.

  • check out Dale Watson and Wayne Hancock, as well as Lucky Tubb. There are people trying to keep good music alive and played, so support them or old country will remain a thing of the past.

  • when i go to buy music i always look for the old stuff like hank snow and hank williams. that music makes more sense then today,s music. i guess you could call me a old foggie but i was raised that way, just a old country boy.

  • I sure miss my dad. He did the honkey tonks but he was a father first.

  • Go to a Jody Nix dance down in Texas and he will break out with this one first and tell you it is his favorite C/W song ALWAYS fills the Texas dance floors to this day! This song & Charlie had a country soul!

  • Years ago my brother had a country band and this was his favorite song to sing. Sounded just like the orginal version.. Had to be 40 + years ago. It's all gone now the music of real country

Mantle's favorite song. When the Mick was in his prime.

  • I absolutely love this song....thank you so much for bringing back these memories, I sang this song with my grandfather while he played his fiddle and I played the piano....I have not thought about that for 30 years....bless you.

  • This is another song in my quest to listen to all my favorites listed on the Golden Age of Country by Time Life.

This one takes me way back, but it's still a song I find myself singing at certain times.

    Country when it was country!!!

Thank you very much for posting this video.

  • i did,nt know charlie passed away. boy, seems like all the good ones are gone. this is what i grown up listening to.

  • This is a great record! Flashbell- regarding your comment- you arn't the only one that feels that way.

  • .....you got that right. Jreb

  • We perform in the Houston area, and when I found out that Charlie Walker had passed away, it really tore at my heart. Growing up in South Texas, I grew up listening to "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down" and must have danced to that song in every dance hall in South Texas. We recently did a tribute to Charlie Walker and this great country song in a show. What a great artist and ambassador for the best music ever. I will miss him.

  • I was in Texas when I heard Roy Orbison

    died.

  • scumgod13 How does that relate to Charlie Walker?

  • We perform in the Houston area, and when I found out that Charlie Walker had passed away. Guess it don't I was just relating the band I was in at the time had played Austin the night before and the next day at a truck stop and someone announced Roy Orbison died.Just relating a traveling band story about Texas.Obviously I like him or I wouldn't be here.

  • really good counry tune....RIP Charley Walker

  • BOY HOWDY! God sure made me a Honky Tonk Girl!!!!! Keep these good ol' tunes coming! :)

  • I forgot just how great this is! What a contrast to the watered down, manufactured stuff we hear now. I can almost remember another life. Coming off "tower"on the rig, the bar, the sexual tension, trying not to get into a fight ...

  • Hreat country music. You are right the Nashvile crap isnt worth listening to now. I hope they figure out how no good their now country is

  • Genius songwriting. Harlan Howard used to sit at my bar when I bartended in Nashville back in the 80's. I was young and playing in a rock band at the time, too precocious to appreciate the kind words of music industry advice he always gave me, but I remember him now with great fondness. Rest in peace, Harlan.

  • If only country music still sounded like this.

  • You may be their pride & joy

but they will find another toy.

  • The good ones won't.....ladyjay

  • That steel break is to die for. Is that Jimmy Day? Also, I believe this song was written by Harlan Howard. RIP Charlie !

  • The steel guitar player is the late great Jimmy Day. Type Jimmy Day in the youtube search engine and watch Jimmy do an instramental version of this tune. He was truly one of the great.

  • Martina McBride does a great cover of this song and many others on her "Timeless" cd. Check it out.

  • Correction, this song was written by Harlan Howard. This was the song that launched Harlan Howard's career as one of the best country music songwriters of all time.

  • A lot of people don't realize that Charlie WROTE this song. There is probably no other song in the history of country music that has so many cover versions by other artists. But Charlie's was the originl, and he wrote the song himself.
